My name is Cameo Harbaugh and I am a single mother. I have spent the last two years of my daughter’s life being a full time Cal State University Northridge student, pursuing my degree. I on occasion spend time serving tables to be able to cover bills and afford to keep myself and my daughter afloat. I do not have a safety net, or any help from family in the financial department. Although we are doing okay, I wish to pursue this last bit f my education and get my Speech Language Pathology Assistant license, so that my Bachelor’s degree can be put to use and I can no longer worry about mine and my child’s stability. The program costs $5,000 and does not offer any financial aid opportunities. This is a chunk of money I do not have, and the $1,000 scholarship will go a long way for me getting into the program and pursuing it. I will use it to cover tuition and get certified to work in my career field. My goals as an individual are to number one, be the best mother I can be. To me, this means giving my child every possible opportunity to be her best self in whatever ways I can. If I am able to provide her with stability and security by maintaining a career she can look up to, I am fighting half the battle already. I desire to know all my bills are paid on time, and in full. My child will have new clothes, books, and anything she could possibly desire because I put the work in to make sure this was a possibility. I will enter the SLPA program, complete it, become a licensed SLPA, and I will work as hard as I possibly can to maintain a steady career that I love. I will help those who seek my professional help, and become skilled along the way so that I can learn to be exactly the kind of Speech Pathologist I want to be before I enter graduate school one day. My parenting situation is that of a fully single parent. My daughter’s father has no part of her life, and does not financially contribute to her welfare in anyway, shape, or form.
