My name is Caleb Rivas, I am an 18 year old Senior at Mission Oak High School in Tulare California. I currently have a 3.5 GPA and have been accepted to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo California in the fall to pursue my academic and athletic future in the sport of wrestling. Throughout my life I have faced many challenges that have shaped my character and determination, I started the sport of wrestling at age 5 and continued through the present date. At age 6 my grandfather became my primary caregiver during a turbulent time when my parents were unable to care for me. He played a pivotal role in my upbringing by supporting my educational needs, helping me improve my grades and instilling in me the values of hard work and perseverance. My father entered my life at age 8 thanks to my grandfather's guidance and support. Although I never reconnected with my mother, today I am fortunate to have two two strong male figures in my life. They're involvement in my educational and personal growth has been instrumental in helping me overcome obstacles and develop resilience, I learned that no matter what life throws at you it is essential to never give up. Wrestling has been the cornerstone of my life teaching me valuable skills such as leadership, patience, perseverance and accountability. As a team captain and a Top 5 Rank wrestler in the State of California I have embraced the responsibility of being a good role model for my peers, mentoring and guiding my teammates to perform at the highest level. They say champions are built when no one is watching and I took that on my own to be the best I could possibly be and have no regrets on the outcome. Beyond competing I donate my time as a youth referee and a youth coach to our future generation of wrestlers. I've was fortunate enough to have been successful in the sport and have placed 2X CIF State Placer 7th & 8th, I also am a 4X USA State Champion F/S,USA Triple Crown,4X National Team Member. My goal in college is to study Biology and pursue a career in sports medicine. This path reflects my passion for understanding the human body in my desire to help others achieve their physical potential. Receiving a scholarship would help alleviate the financial burden of college expenses, allowing me to focus on my studies and continue striving for excellence. My name is Caleb Rivas, I am 17-year-old senior at Mission Oak High School in Tulare California. I express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship. Throughout my young life I have face challenges that have shaped my character and determination, my parents split up when I was 6 years old while they did not reconcile and both were out of my life,my grandfather stepped in to raise me, although he didn't introduce me to the sport of wrestling he was a old wrestler himself as my father, my grandfather took the roll of taking me to and from practices and tournaments, long days of training which I took up on my own as of age 10 without having to be told what needed to be done, I incurred lots of injuries along the way from broken fingers, collarbone, ankle, and head injuries and lots of strain muscles. Most people would have opted out from the sport but I look ed at it as a passage,to be better, compete through the pain when your body is telling you to stop but your mind overrides all sensation. This sport is for the few and when it's all over you come out knowing what life is about when things do not go your way. No one can comprehend the amount of work that is put in unless your a wrestler. As a team captain and a top five rank wrestler in the State of California I've embraced the responsibilities of mentoring, guiding my fellow teammates and others who cross my path as we all learn from each other. On my spare time I give back to the youth programs in my local area and also referee, it puts a smile on my face when I see a diamond in the rough, hopefully I've set a positive example for our youth out there and I have become a role model for them, hard work and determination does pay off and there's no easy way around it, as I move forward in my young journey the past is behind me and I have to give thanks to everyone that was involved in my life because I couldn't have gotten there without them,my faith is strong and I'll miss the hot wrestling room in the friendships I've made, my grandfather and my dad are my foundation for always being there for me I would have never been as successful in the sport of wrestling.I've always held myself to a strong standard in and outside the wrestling mat. I've been actively involved in wrestling since I was 5 years old, the sport has been a cornerstone of my life teaching me valuable skills such as leadership, patience, accountability, confidence, perseverance and to meet competitors as equals and always striving to embrace the grind that it takes to be successful in the sport. As my high school career has come to an end I've achieved what I was hoping to obtain colleges reaching out to help me achieve my dream of being the first one in my family to graduate from college with a degree in biology and pursue a career in sports medicine, this path reflects on my passion for understanding the human body and desire to help others achieve their physical potential, ultimately I aspire to give back to the community that has supported me by contributing to the healthcare field.I have accepted to California Polytechic University, this scholarship would help me achieve my goal.Thank you very much for reading my profile, Sincerely Caleb Rivas

My name is Caleb Rivas I am 17 years old from California,1 State 1 Champion and I am a wrestler. Started at age 5, this sport has taught me a lot of things about life. What it means to stay true to yourself and do the extra work to make you succeed in this demanding sport. In wrestling you only have yourself to count on, no breaks, no teammates to help you, no timeouts, it's only you and your opponent in a mutual combat with the other trying to impose their will on you, the training you have to endure will show on the mat and in all other sports if you're a multi-athlete. The sport is unforgiving with many injuries and setbacks with highs and lows which makes you grow from those situations, Wrestling is full time unlike any other sport, just stepping on the mat shows a great deal of confidence when you step in the circle with your opponent and his training, your body is screaming in pain your mind is telling you to stop but you must always find a way to push through, your body covered in sweat, hard to see was sweat in your eyes, body screaming for water, 6 minutes of pain and sometimes the clock can't come soon enough and when you get your hand raised you have the crowd and your teammates behind you but no one sees the countless hours spent behind the scene, the tears shed, questioning yourself while running endless miles when you can just compete in an easier sport and be ok with that, countless doctor visits, this sport is one of the less road traveled because if it was easy everyone would do it. This means getting up early to get your run in, lift before school, eating healthy and more training after class and more training till late nights. You have to also balance your classroom work in and out daily. This can't be done by yourself unless you have the right people who care about you around in order to be successful. This is a 7 day a week sport for the top 1% of your state, what wrestling has given me is a Family Structure ,Guidance, Leadership Skills,Perseverance, Confidence,Respect,Direction& Compassion for others. Athletics and School will hold you accountable for poor choices, I know my time is limited in the sport but I've made lots of good friends and teammates and have met lots of good adult mentors who want to see our youth Excel and in the end you become friends with your competition from the past, I'm one of the fortunate ones to have gotten 4xCAUSA State Titles,USA Triple Crown,5X National Team Member,2xCaState Placer, as my senior high school draws near I will be graduating with honors and will be following my academic and wrestling career had a D1 College, hard work does pay off and the right people will come into your life to help you succeed

My name is Caleb Rivas age 17 live in Tulare Co California,I started wrestling at the age of 5, at age 6 my parents split up because of addiction and I went to go live with my grandfather, he kept me involved in the sport and school, since I was behind my grade level from so many days missed, my grandfather supported me through my young life for all my needs. My first season I got only 1 win cried everyday but refused to give up,but I kept training all year long, 2nd season I started to see results in my training, 3rd year won a CAUSA Triple Crown that same year was picked up by the National Team and was able to travel out of state thanks to my Grandfather and Dad, as a youth I've experienced a lot of setbacks but I kept striving to be the best in and outside of the classroom I refused to settle, I kept grinding everyday my school work improved from all incomplete to straight A's. At age 10 I started to put in the work on my own to be successful getting up at 6:00 a.m to get my 2 mi run in and light lifting before school, as I look back now this turned into 6 days a week, once I entered Middle School I could see the difference I was making compared to my teammates, I would invite some of them to join me in my routine but they were always too busy. Going into High School the coaches were excited since the school that I was attending was not supportive of wrestling, my Freshman year I was 1 match from going to State where here in California we only have 1 Champion, next season made it all the way to State place 8th, first State Placer at my school in 24 years, all the work was done in my Grandfather's garage, I had everything I needed to succeed, key people started showing up including rival School coaches to practice. Made a lot of good friends and met a lot of great adults in the sport through the process. I was lucky enough to qualified for the National Team and compete in Fargo ND went 5-2, next school year I failed to place at State went 3-2 big disappointment for me but I vowed to work even harder my Senior year, fast forward I placed 7th this year at State and ended my High School career 141-28, as I count the days to graduation wrestling is not over for me I've been fortunate enough to have been contacted by several D1 Colleges to invest in my future. I will be signing with Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo California in April and also be graduating with honors. I will be focusing on an accounting degree and a minor in sports medicine in college and start my own business someday and give back to the community that has helped me be successful, as I look back wrestling has given me so much,Faith Leadership skills,Confidence, Perseverance,Compassion, Patience, making good choices in life because there are no limits what someone can achieve with hard work and direction, lastly I want to thank all the people that believed in me and sacrificed their personal time to invest in my journey.
