FinalistBio
Hi, I’m Ciara Adu-Addo, a 20-year-old student-athlete, social media content creator, and first-generation college student at Worcester State University. I’m majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Communications. Sports have always been a huge part of my life, and I dedicate about 30 hours a week to track and field, where I’m proud to hold my college’s Women’s Indoor Track and Field Long Jump record. Alongside athletics, I’m passionate about fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, which I share on my social media platforms to inspire and connect with others.
My journey hasn’t been easy, but it has shaped me into who I am today. My obstacles have only fueled my desire to push forward and create a better future for myself and my family. I’m dedicated to my studies, working two on-campus jobs and one off-campus job while staying focused on my athletic career and content creation.
My ultimate goal is to graduate with minimal debt, pursue a business career, and possibly work in marketing for top brands and sports teams. I also want to give back to my community, which is why I coach youth cheerleaders and volunteer with the local Boys and Girls Club.
Through all my pursuits—whether on the track, in the classroom, or online—I aim to break barriers, inspire others, and make a meaningful impact on those around me.

Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship
Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household, I quickly learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and resilience. My name is Ciara Adu-Addo, and I am a first-generation college student majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Communications. My journey has been shaped by the challenges I have faced, but they have only fueled my passion for business and entrepreneurship. From an early age, I have aspired to create opportunities for myself and others by building a successful career that combines my love for marketing, social media, and business strategy.
This scholarship would make a significant difference in my life and education. Balancing my responsibilities as a full-time student, student-athlete, and content creator while also working multiple jobs to afford tuition is challenging. Despite receiving financial aid, I still struggle to cover my tuition and living expenses. This scholarship would alleviate some of that burden, allowing me to focus more on my education and career development without the constant stress of financial insecurity. My goal is to graduate with minimal debt and use my business knowledge to create innovative marketing strategies for elite brands and sports teams. Ultimately, I aspire to launch my own consulting firm, helping small businesses and entrepreneurs build strong brand identities and sustainable business models.
One of the most significant challenges I have faced was experiencing both physical and emotional weakness during my athletic career. As a dedicated track and field athlete, I have spent countless hours training and competing, pushing my body to its limits. However, during one of the most crucial seasons of my college career, I suffered an injury that threatened to derail everything I had worked so hard for. The physical pain was overwhelming, but the emotional toll was even greater. I felt defeated, questioning whether I would be able to return to the sport that had given me purpose and discipline for so many years.
Instead of succumbing to self-doubt, I chose to persevere. I dedicated myself to rehabilitation, working closely with trainers and physical therapists to regain my strength. At the same time, I focused on my mental resilience, reminding myself that setbacks are a part of any journey. I applied this mindset to my academics and professional aspirations as well, understanding that obstacles are inevitable but can be overcome with determination and a strategic approach. That experience reinforced my belief in adaptability and perseverance—qualities that are essential in both business and life.
Beyond my athletic career, I have faced emotional hardships stemming from financial instability and personal losses. There were times when I struggled with food insecurity and the fear of not being able to continue my education due to financial constraints. However, I never let these challenges define me. Instead, I used them as motivation to work harder, seek out opportunities, and build a path toward success. My passion for business is deeply personal—I want to use my knowledge to uplift others who face similar struggles and provide them with the tools to succeed.
The Jorian Kuran Harris (Shugg) Helping Heart Foundation Scholarship would provide me with the financial support I need to continue my education and pursue my long-term goals. It would allow me to further develop my skills, expand my network, and gain valuable experiences that will prepare me for a successful career in business. With this support, I am determined to not only achieve my own dreams but also create opportunities for others, ensuring that success is accessible to those who dare to dream and work hard to make it a reality.
Sgt. Albert Dono Ware Memorial Scholarship
Sgt. Albert Dono Ware’s legacy of service, sacrifice, and bravery is a powerful reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on their community and country. As a first-generation African American college student, I deeply resonate with these values. My journey has been shaped by perseverance in the face of adversity, a commitment to service, and a drive to uplift those around me. Growing up in a low-income, single-parent household, I witnessed firsthand the struggles of marginalized communities. However, I have also seen the power of resilience and community support in overcoming these challenges.
Service has been a cornerstone of my personal journey. As a student-athlete and social media content creator, I use my platform to inspire and educate others about the importance of perseverance, self-expression, and community engagement. Beyond my online presence, I actively volunteer at the local Boys and Girls Club and coach youth cheerleaders at Far Out Cheer and Dance. Through these efforts, I strive to provide young people with mentorship, guidance, and opportunities that may otherwise be inaccessible to them, just as Sgt. Ware dedicated his life to serving others, I, too, am committed to making a lasting impact.
The African diaspora in the U.S. faces significant challenges, including economic disparities, educational barriers, and systemic racism. To address these issues, I believe community-driven solutions and policy reforms must be at the forefront. One critical reform is expanding access to quality education and mentorship programs for underprivileged youth. Many African American students, like myself, struggle with financial burdens that hinder their ability to pursue higher education. Implementing tuition assistance programs, increasing funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), and expanding mentorship initiatives can provide young people with the resources they need to succeed.
Additionally, addressing economic disparities through entrepreneurship and financial literacy programs is essential. Many members of the African diaspora lack access to capital and business development resources. By fostering economic empowerment through small business grants, community investment programs, and partnerships with corporations, we can create pathways for financial independence and long-term stability.
Another pressing challenge within the African diaspora is the need for criminal justice reform. Systemic racism and mass incarceration disproportionately affect Black communities, hindering economic and social progress. Implementing policies that address sentencing disparities, providing rehabilitation programs, and creating opportunities for reintegration into society can help reduce recidivism and promote community well-being. Advocacy for police reform, including increased accountability and better training programs, is also essential to fostering trust between law enforcement and communities of color.
Mental health awareness and support must also be prioritized. Many African Americans experience trauma stemming from systemic oppression, economic struggles, and social injustices. However, mental health care remains largely stigmatized and inaccessible to many. Expanding access to culturally competent mental health services, increasing funding for community counseling programs, and promoting awareness initiatives can significantly improve the well-being of the African diaspora.
Key stakeholders in driving these changes include policymakers, educators, business leaders, healthcare professionals, and community organizations. Government agencies must prioritize equitable policies that close the wealth and education gap, while local organizations should work to provide grassroots support and mentorship. Healthcare professionals must advocate for accessible mental health resources, and businesses should invest in initiatives that promote economic empowerment within Black communities. Collaboration between these groups will be instrumental in creating lasting change.
Sgt. Ware’s legacy inspires me to continue my commitment to service and advocacy. Through education, mentorship, and community empowerment, I aim to honor his dedication to making the world a better place. With the support of this scholarship, I will further my education and continue my mission of uplifting the African American community, ensuring that future generations have the opportunities and resources they deserve. His story serves as a guiding light, reminding me that courage, sacrifice, and resilience can create meaningful change, and I am determined to carry that torch forward.
Brad Hinshaw Memorial Scholarship
Losing a loved one to cancer is a devastating experience that reshapes every aspect of life. In September 2024, my world turned upside down when my aunt passed away from stage 4 breast cancer. She wasn’t just my aunt; she was my best friend, my biggest cheerleader, and, most importantly, a mother figure to me. My mom and aunt raised my cousin and me as single mothers, forming an unbreakable bond that made our family whole.
When we first learned of her diagnosis, it was already at an advanced stage. Despite this, she fought with incredible strength and resilience. Miraculously, there were moments when her condition seemed to improve, giving us hope that she would overcome it. That hope made her passing even more shocking and unbearable. I never got the chance to say goodbye due to the distance between us, a regret that weighs heavily on me every day.
My mom and aunt raised my cousins and me as single mothers, forming an unbreakable bond that made our family whole.
My aunt was my lifeline and role model, embodying strength, kindness, and perseverance. My favorite thing about her was her smile—no matter how much pain she was in, when things didn’t work out, if she was sad or angry, or if life wasn’t going well, she was always there smiling her white, pearly smile. It was a source of comfort and reassurance, reminding me that no matter what hardships we faced, we could get through them together. Her unwavering belief in me gave me the confidence to push forward, even when life felt overwhelming.
Losing her has left an emptiness that can never truly be filled, but I strive to honor her legacy in everything I do. Her passing has profoundly affected me in ways I never anticipated. Grief has been an ongoing battle, but it has also fueled my determination to succeed. I have channeled my pain into motivation, working hard to make her proud. She taught me that life is unpredictable and fragile, and because of her, I cherish every moment and opportunity that comes my way.
Beyond my personal grief, her loss has also strengthened my commitment to helping others. I want to support those who have experienced similar pain and offer encouragement to those navigating life without a loved one. Whether through volunteering, mentoring, or simply being a listening ear, I hope to extend the same kindness and warmth my aunt always showed me.
This scholarship would not only provide financial support for my education but also serve as a tribute to my aunt’s enduring influence on my life. Her love and guidance continue to inspire me every day, and I am committed to carrying her legacy forward in everything I achieve. I know she would be proud of the person I am becoming, and I will continue to honor her memory through perseverance, kindness, and a bright smile—just like hers.

This vision is deeply personal for me because I understand the impact of not having access to opportunities. My own journey has been marked by a lack of resources and financial support, and I am determined to ensure that others don't have to face those same obstacles.
In building this business, I plan to focus on creating content and resources that empower others in the fields of sports marketing, entrepreneurship, and personal growth. I aim to combine my passion for sports with my business goals to create a space where young people can not only develop their athletic skills but also learn how to navigate the world of business and marketing, whether in sports or beyond.

The education I’m receiving is the key to unlocking that potential, and it’s how I plan to create lasting change, not only in my own life but in the lives of others as well.
Ultimately, I believe that by building this business and providing access to education and mentorship, I can help individuals from my community find their own path to success. School became my escape and my pathway to a better future, a future that I knew I could shape through hard work and dedication.
Being a first-generation college student from a low-income background has made my educational journey much more difficult. Although I’ve been able to access some FAFSA funding, paying for tuition and bills is still a constant struggle. I often find myself juggling responsibilities, trying to balance my studies and finances. While I’ve always been determined to push through and excel in my education, it’s clear that financial burdens are a major obstacle in my journey.
Without a college education, I wouldn't be able to fulfill my dream of becoming a businesswoman, specializing in marketing for elite brands and sports teams. College is the key to achieving my goals, and it has always been my ambition to use my education to break the barriers that have held others back. However, the reality is that the cost of education and necessary resources—such as textbooks and materials—often stand in the way. This scholarship would not only alleviate some of those financial pressures, but it would allow me to fully focus on my studies and growth.

I want to be able to break into the business world and use my platform to uplift others from similar backgrounds, offering them opportunities they might not otherwise have had.
This scholarship would provide me with the opportunity to access the necessary resources to succeed in college, which is crucial for me to achieve my aspirations. With your support, I will be one step closer to becoming the businesswoman and marketing expert I aim to be, while also continuing to inspire those who may face similar struggles in their own journeys.
Attending college is not just a goal for me—it is the foundation of everything I want to accomplish. It is essential for me to fulfill my purpose and make a lasting impact on the world. This scholarship would allow me to continue working toward that goal and make my dreams a reality.
Heather Brown Sports Information Scholarship
Sports have been an integral part of my life from an early age. As an athlete since elementary school, I’ve always been passionate about competing, and I’ve been fortunate to achieve numerous track and soccer championships along the way. Currently, I hold my college’s women’s long jump school record, which is one of my proudest accomplishments. Sports bring me immense happiness and joy, and they have shaped who I am today. This lifelong commitment to athletics fuels my desire to pursue a career in sports information, where I can share the stories that make sports so impactful and inspiring.
My vision for a career in sports information is to become a communications professional who not only reports on sports but also connects with athletes and fans through compelling storytelling. I believe the most important skills for success in this field are strong communication, a deep understanding of the sports you cover, and the ability to engage diverse audiences. In sports information, it’s not just about reporting the facts; it’s about humanizing athletes and teams, showcasing their journeys, and creating content that resonates on a personal level with fans.
As an athlete myself, I understand the dedication, discipline, and mental strength required to succeed in sports. Having been on both sides of the competition—competing as an athlete and studying sports communication—I have developed a strong appreciation for how athletes’ stories shape the narrative of sports. My experiences in track and soccer have allowed me to understand the highs and lows that come with being an athlete, and I plan to use this perspective to create content that speaks to both athletes and fans alike. I want to bring their stories to life, not just through statistics and scores but through the passion and perseverance that define sports.
I am currently honing my skills in writing, digital media, and public relations to better prepare myself for a career in sports information. Through my involvement in media and volunteer opportunities, I have gained hands-on experience creating content and understanding the needs of various sports audiences. My leadership roles in athletics have also helped me develop skills like teamwork, time management, and the ability to work under pressure—qualities that are essential in the fast-paced world of sports communication.
Like Heather R. Brown, who dedicated her life to sports communication and left a lasting impact, I aspire to bring my passion for sports into this field. Her ability to combine professionalism with a genuine love for the game is something I strive to emulate. I want to follow in her footsteps by not only excelling in sports information but also by celebrating the athletes and teams that make sports so special. I’m committed to using my platform to connect with fans, inspire the next generation, and honor the legacy of those who have paved the way in sports journalism and communication.
Sports have shaped my life in every way, and they continue to fuel my drive to succeed in both athletics and my career. With determination, a love for storytelling, and a deep commitment to the game, I am excited to pursue a career in sports information and contribute to the incredible world of sports journalism.
Augustus L. Harper Scholarship
Education has always been the key to unlocking new opportunities in my life. Growing up, I was a troubled kid, constantly faced with adversity and challenges. Despite being ahead of my class academically, I struggled with my environment, which sometimes threatened to hold me back. However, it was education that offered me a way out, shaping me into the woman I am today.
I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to join a prestigious academic program that relocated me from my harsh surroundings. This program changed the trajectory of my life. It was in this environment that I truly saw the value of education—not just as a tool for personal advancement but as a way to overcome obstacles and reshape my future. It was this move, this chance to be in a supportive, nurturing academic setting, that allowed me to flourish. I gained more than just knowledge; I learned how to believe in myself, how to push past the difficulties life throws at you, and how to use my intellect as a foundation to build the life I want.
I quickly realized that education was more than just about memorizing facts or taking exams. It became about developing critical thinking skills, building confidence, and learning how to thrive in an ever-changing world. Education gave me the ability to make sense of my experiences and to see the world in a way I hadn't before. It helped me recognize my potential, which inspired me to pursue multiple passions, from being a student-athlete to becoming a content creator and entrepreneur. It gave me the tools to break barriers and challenge the status quo.
Like Augustus L. Harper, who believed that education was the key to escaping poverty and achieving success, I’ve learned that education has the power to change lives. For me, it was the opportunity to leave behind a difficult past and pursue a brighter future. It gave me a chance to start fresh, to gain not only academic knowledge but life skills that have allowed me to navigate the challenges of being a Black woman in a competitive world. Every lesson learned has been part of the foundation that has helped me build my personal brand, pursue my entrepreneurial goals, and inspire others to overcome their own obstacles.
As I continue my studies, I carry with me the understanding that education is not just for personal success but also for uplifting others. I am committed to using the opportunities I've had to help create similar opportunities for those in underserved communities. Just as Augustus L. Harper dedicated his life to the advancement of others through education, I too am determined to lift as I rise, ensuring that the next generation has access to the same life-changing opportunities that helped shape me.
Education is a powerful tool that has shaped my life in ways I could never have imagined as a troubled kid, and it will continue to guide me as I work toward becoming a successful entrepreneur and advocate for others.
Elevate Black Entrepreneurs Scholarship
As a Black student-athlete, fashion model, and content creator, I have always viewed entrepreneurship as a powerful tool for not only personal success but also for creating opportunities for others. From a young age, I knew I wanted to build something of my own—something that reflected my creativity, ambition, and desire to uplift others. While talent is evenly distributed, opportunity is not, and I am determined to be part of the movement that changes this narrative.
My entrepreneurial journey began through content creation, where I built a personal brand focused on beauty, fashion, and lifestyle. Through this, I’ve learned valuable skills in marketing, audience engagement, and digital product creation. I sell digital products designed to help others elevate their lives and social media presence, and this experience has given me firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities that come with entrepreneurship. However, I know this is only the beginning. My goal is to take my business to the next level—creating a full-scale brand that provides branding strategies, educational resources, and digital products specifically designed for aspiring influencers and entrepreneurs, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
Black entrepreneurs often face systemic barriers when it comes to funding, visibility, and access to the right resources. I want to change that by creating a brand that not only helps individuals grow their platforms but also equips them with the tools and knowledge to monetize their passions. Many aspiring creators have incredible potential but lack the guidance to turn their skills into a sustainable business. I want to bridge that gap and provide them with a roadmap to success.
Winning the Elevate Black Entrepreneurs Scholarship would be a game-changer for me. The financial support would allow me to invest in better tools, expand my reach, and develop a structured business model that can scale. More importantly, it would provide me with the resources needed to create impactful content and programs that empower other Black creatives and entrepreneurs. Representation in entrepreneurship matters because diverse founders bring fresh perspectives and solutions to the table. My business is not just about making money—it’s about fostering a community, providing value, and inspiring others to embrace their entrepreneurial potential.
Entrepreneurship is one of the most powerful ways to create generational wealth and uplift communities. I am committed to not only building a successful business but also to helping others do the same. This scholarship represents more than just financial assistance—it’s an investment in Black innovation, creativity, and leadership. With the right support, I know I can take my business to new heights and make a lasting impact. I am ready to be part of the movement that redefines what success looks like for Black entrepreneurs.
Billie Eilish Fan Scholarship
1. “Happier Than Ever”
This song is a powerful reminder of self-worth and breaking free from toxic situations. The way it starts soft and vulnerable, then explodes into raw emotion, perfectly captures the feeling of realizing your own strength. As someone who has faced setbacks and doubt from others—whether in sports, modeling, or content creation—this song fuels my determination. It reminds me that I don’t have to shrink myself for anyone and that walking away from negativity can lead to a stronger, happier version of myself.
2. “everything i wanted”
This song hits deep because it explores the struggle between success and self-doubt. As an ambitious person balancing multiple passions, I relate to the feeling of wondering if achievements will bring true happiness. Billie’s lyrics remind me that no matter what heights I reach, it’s the people who truly support me that matter most. It also speaks to resilience—pushing through self-doubt and continuing to chase dreams, even when it feels overwhelming.
3. “you should see me in a crown”
This song is my confidence anthem. Whether I’m stepping onto the track, the soccer field, or in front of the camera, it reminds me to own my power. Billie’s boldness in this song inspires me to embrace my ambitions unapologetically. I love how she flips the narrative—turning doubts and underestimation into fuel for success. Every time I listen to it, I feel like I can take on anything.
Billie Eilish’s music has shaped the way I approach challenges, self-expression, and personal growth. She has shown me that being different is a strength, and her songs have been a soundtrack to my own journey of resilience and self-discovery.
Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
Sabrina Carpenter is more than just an artist to me—she's an inspiration. From her early days as Maya Hart on Girl Meets World to her current success as a powerhouse musician and actress, she has continually shown what it means to evolve, embrace individuality, and pursue dreams with passion and resilience.
I first connected with Sabrina through her Disney Channel days. Her portrayal of Maya was not only funny and full of personality but also deeply relatable. Maya was the girl who faced struggles, questioned herself, and still managed to shine—and in many ways, that resonated with me. As a Black female student-athlete and content creator, I’ve had moments where I’ve felt underestimated or boxed in by expectations. Watching Sabrina bring Maya to life taught me that you don’t have to fit into anyone else’s mold—you can create your own path, just like she has.
Beyond acting, Sabrina’s music has been a major influence in my life. Songs like Please, Please, Please and Espresso showcase her ability to be both vulnerable and confident, and that balance is something I strive for in my own journey. She has grown from a Disney star into a respected artist who writes about real, raw emotions, and that transformation is something I deeply admire. Her career reminds me that growth isn’t about staying in one lane—it’s about embracing change, taking risks, and staying true to yourself.
Sabrina’s journey has also reinforced my belief that you can be multifaceted. I’m a student-athlete, a fashion model, and a content creator, and sometimes people try to put me in a box, assuming I have to choose one passion over another. But Sabrina’s ability to excel in multiple industries—acting, music, and even using her platform for important conversations—has shown me that I don’t have to limit myself. I can be all the things I aspire to be, just as she has done.
Ultimately, Sabrina Carpenter has inspired me to chase my dreams fearlessly, embrace my individuality, and never be afraid to evolve. Her journey proves that with hard work, passion, and authenticity, anything is possible—and that’s a message I carry with me every single day.
Team USA Fan Scholarship
My Favorite Athlete to Cheer for on Team USA: Sha’Carri Richardson
Sha’Carri Richardson is my favorite athlete to cheer for on Team USA because she embodies resilience, confidence, and authenticity. As a Black female track athlete, I see so much of my own journey in hers—not just in competition, but in the challenges she’s had to overcome along the way.
Sha’Carri was underestimated by many. From the moment she stepped onto the track, people doubted her, questioned her appearance, and criticized her bold personality. But she never let that stop her. She stayed true to herself, proving that success doesn’t come from fitting into a mold—it comes from hard work, talent, and the courage to be unapologetically you. The way she stormed onto the scene, fresh out of college, and secured her spot at the Olympics was nothing short of inspiring. That’s exactly what I hope to do—make my mark early, defy expectations, and show the world that I belong on the biggest stage.
Like Sha’Carri, I’ve had people tell me that I won’t make it far based on my appearance. I love to be fashionable while running my race and jumping into the pit, but some have made me feel like I have to choose between style and success. They say I don’t look the part, but what they fail to understand is that true greatness isn’t about conforming—it’s about standing out. I’ve had people talk down on me, and I’ve faced major setbacks, but through it all, I’ve stayed focused, determined, and hungry for more. Sha’Carri’s journey reminds me that my individuality is my strength, not my weakness.
What I admire most about her is that she never lets the outside noise define her. Even after facing adversity, she came back stronger, faster, and more determined than ever. She represents all the girls who have been told they’re “too much” or “not enough” and shows us that we don’t have to choose between being bold and being great—we can be both.
She inspires me every time I step on the track. No matter how many roadblocks I face, I will continue to rise above, stay humble, and run my race—just like Sha’Carri. She’s not just an athlete; she’s a symbol of empowerment for girls like me who refuse to be boxed in. Watching her shine on the Olympic stage reminds me that my dreams are valid, my presence is powerful, and my time is coming.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is more than just a basketball player—he’s a symbol of perseverance, leadership, and greatness. From his humble beginnings in Akron, Ohio, to becoming one of the most dominant forces in sports history, LeBron’s journey has inspired me in ways beyond the court.
As a Black student-athlete, I see LeBron as more than an icon—he’s a role model who proves that hard work, resilience, and self-belief can break barriers. Whether I’m on the track or the soccer field, I carry his mindset with me: the drive to push past limits, the commitment to excellence, and the determination to uplift others. He inspires me to train harder, compete with passion, and never settle for anything less than greatness.
LeBron’s impact extends far beyond basketball. He has redefined what it means to be an athlete, proving that success isn’t just measured in championships and records (though he has plenty of those) but in impact. Whether it’s opening the “I PROMISE” school for underprivileged children, using his platform to advocate for social justice, or mentoring young athletes—including his own son, Bronny—LeBron embodies ambition, drive, and a commitment to making a difference. Without a doubt, I believe LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time. While players like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have left their marks on the game, LeBron’s longevity, versatility, and all-around impact set him apart. He’s not just a scorer—he’s an elite passer, defender, and leader who has consistently elevated his teammates throughout his career.
His ability to dominate in any era, adapt his game, and maintain peak performance at nearly 40 years old is unheard of. He holds the NBA’s all-time scoring record, has won championships with multiple teams, and continues to set new standards for what an athlete can achieve. But what truly makes him the GOAT is his ability to inspire and uplift those around him—whether it's his teammates, young athletes like me, or entire communities.
To me, LeBron James is more than a basketball player; he’s an inspiration. He has shown that success isn’t about where you start but how hard you work to get where you want to be. That’s a lesson I carry with me every time I step onto the field or the track, knowing that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
This scholarship is an opportunity to honor LeBron’s legacy, and I’m grateful for the chance to share why he continues to inspire me every single day.
Ken Landry Memorial Scholarship
Running has been more than a sport for me—it has been a lifeline. As a sophomore in college competing in track and field at a Division 3 school, I know I have the skill level of a Division 1 athlete. Yet, my journey has been far from ordinary. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I faced numerous obstacles, including homelessness and limited opportunities. Through it all, sports—especially running—became my outlet, my escape, and my way of discovering who I am.
Track and field has been my sanctuary since a young age, providing a space to decompress and express myself. It has given me the platform to shine my light not just for myself but for others. Being a year-round three-sport athlete in high school shaped my character, teaching me discipline, perseverance, and self-belief. I achieved milestones I once thought impossible—jumping 18 feet in the long jump and earning the title of Student-Athlete of the Year in my hometown for my dedication and successes in track, cheer, and soccer. This recognition opened my eyes to my potential and showed me that with determination and focus, I could overcome the darkest of times.
During my freshman year of college, I earned numerous awards and even had a blog post written about my journey and hardships. I now hold my school’s women’s long jump record, a testament to how far I’ve come despite the challenges I’ve faced. The ability to compete and excel has not only fueled my own aspirations but has also inspired me to give back to others.
I use my love for sports to uplift my community. I coach youth dance and cheer, instilling in them the values of hard work and self-confidence that sports taught me. I return to my high school track team to mentor and guide athletes, sharing tips and encouraging them to adopt the right mindset to achieve their goals. I want these young athletes to see that no matter their circumstances, they have the power to rise above and succeed.
Sports have single-handedly saved my life. They have shown me that adversity can be a stepping stone rather than a stumbling block, and they have inspired me to spread that message to others. My dream is to extend my impact beyond my community, reaching as many people as possible to remind them that their circumstances do not define their potential.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue pursuing my athletic and academic goals while amplifying my ability to give back. I want to honor Coach Ken Landry’s legacy by embodying his spirit of inspiration and perseverance. Through my journey, I aim to make a difference in the lives of others, proving that with passion, resilience, and the support of a community, anything is possible.
Stephan L. Wolley Memorial Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I faced challenges that tested my strength, determination, and resilience. Despite these hardships, I have found motivation in the desire to succeed in both academics and athletics, to give back to my community, and to provide a better life for my family.
Homelessness, food insecurity, and discrimination are obstacles that could have defined my life. Instead, they have fueled my drive to excel. Raised by a single mother, who is a minority woman, I have witnessed firsthand the incredible lengths she went to ensure I had what I needed. She taught me that love and perseverance can outshine material wealth. Alongside her, my aunt, a single mother herself, helped raise me and my cousin. Together, we created a tight-knit family unit filled with support and unwavering belief in one another. My grandparents also played an essential role, always showing up for me and instilling in me the belief that I can achieve anything I set my mind to.
Despite financial hardships, I graduated high school with a 3.5 GPA and have been accepted into over 15 colleges. As a current sophomore in college, I initially struggled to balance the demands of being a full-time student while working to support myself. My grades began to slip as I juggled these responsibilities. However, the passing of my aunt, who was a pillar of strength in my life, became a turning point. Her memory inspired me to push harder than ever, and I was able to finish my semester with a 3.5 GPA. This achievement reaffirmed my belief in my ability to overcome challenges and honor the sacrifices of my family.
Paying for school has been a significant challenge, forcing me to stay local and support myself financially. Beyond tuition, I have faced struggles with access to basic necessities like clothes and food. However, these obstacles have not deterred me. Instead, they have pushed me to advocate for myself, seek out resources, and maintain a strong mindset.
My goals are ambitious but deeply personal. I want to graduate with a bachelor’s degree, transfer to a Division 1 school, and pursue athletic and academic excellence without being limited by financial constraints. Beyond my personal achievements, I aim to give back to my community, inspire others facing similar challenges, and create a better life for my family. I dream of buying my mother a house and a car to honor her sacrifices and dedication. I want to prove to those who doubted me—and to myself—that I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to.
The loss of my aunt has only strengthened my resolve. I carry her memory with me, using it as motivation to persevere and make her proud. I hope to honor her legacy by achieving the success she always believed I could.
Receiving this scholarship would not only help alleviate the financial burden of my education but also serve as a testament to the power of resilience and hard work. It would be a step closer to fulfilling my dream of becoming a beacon of hope for others while honoring the sacrifices of my family and the memory of my aunt.

The quest to understand the nature of our universe is one of the most profound and essential pursuits in human history. It transcends the boundaries of mere curiosity, touching the core of what it means to be human. From deepening our appreciation of existence to driving innovation and addressing global challenges, this endeavor holds immense significance. By delving into the mysteries of the cosmos, we not only uncover the fundamental principles that govern reality but also open doors to transformative solutions that can shape our collective future.
Exploring the universe gives us a sense of perspective and meaning. It reveals the vastness and intricacy of existence, providing a humbling reminder of our place in the cosmos. At the same time, it empowers us with a sense of purpose, inspiring awe and wonder that unite humanity across cultural and personal divides. This deeper understanding fosters a shared appreciation for the interconnectedness of life and the universe itself.
Beyond its philosophical value, the study of the universe is a driving force for innovation and societal progress. Theoretical discoveries often lead to practical advancements. For instance, the principles of quantum mechanics have revolutionized computing and communications, while space exploration has yielded technologies that impact daily life, from GPS systems to medical imaging devices. By seeking answers to fundamental questions, we lay the groundwork for technological breakthroughs that improve the human condition.
Understanding the universe also enhances our survival and sustainability as a species. Knowledge of planetary systems and natural phenomena equips us to address pressing challenges like climate change, resource management, and environmental preservation. Additionally, studying space prepares us for the possibility of interplanetary exploration and settlement, expanding humanity’s horizons and safeguarding our existence against potential existential threats.
To better understand the universe, we must adopt an interdisciplinary approach that integrates perspectives from diverse fields. Physics and mathematics provide tools for modeling the cosmos, while philosophy probes the deeper implications of existence and meaning. Biology and sociology contribute insights into life and its interactions, and literature explores human interpretations of the unknown. By merging these disciplines, we create a more holistic and meaningful framework for understanding.
Curiosity-driven research is another cornerstone of this pursuit. Fundamental questions about the origins of life, the nature of consciousness, and the boundaries of the cosmos inspire inquiry and spark creativity. This kind of exploration is not bound by immediate practical applications but often leads to unexpected breakthroughs that redefine what is possible.
Collaboration and accessibility are equally crucial. Knowledge must be shared across cultural and disciplinary lines, with efforts to make scientific discoveries available to all. This democratization of understanding not only amplifies collective progress but also ensures that underrepresented voices have the opportunity to contribute to humanity’s intellectual legacy.
Finally, critical thinking and open-mindedness are indispensable. By questioning assumptions, embracing skepticism, and fostering creativity, we remain receptive to groundbreaking ideas. Theories that challenge established norms often lead to the most significant discoveries, pushing the boundaries of our understanding.
The pursuit of understanding the universe celebrates the very essence of humanity—our curiosity, resilience, and capacity for wonder. It connects us to the past, grounding us in the work of generations who sought answers to life's biggest questions, and propels us toward a future of limitless possibilities. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, curiosity-driven research, and a commitment to accessibility and critical thought, we can unravel the mysteries of existence and ensure that humanity's journey remains one of discovery, growth, and inspiration.

In a world where sunshine and rainbows aren't always guaranteed, I endured quite a lot. Growing up in a single-parent, low-income household, I quickly realized that life wasn't always kind. However, despite the challenges, I worked tirelessly to achieve everything I had. Early on, I understood the importance of being cautious of my surroundings and not taking things for granted. Fortunately, my journey took a positive turn when I joined the Boys and Girls Club at the age of six.
At the club, I experienced an outpouring of support and kindness that changed my perspective. College volunteers frequently engaged with us, offering assistance with homework and simply spending time with us. As I grew older, I eagerly embraced opportunities to give back. Starting with small tasks like cleaning and running errands, I gradually took on more responsibilities, eventually becoming involved in organizing activities and providing various forms of support.
My volunteer work extended beyond the club to initiatives like my school's clothing drive (andys attic) and my cheerleading gym ( Far out Cheer and Dance). I would take any free time I had to pour back into he hand that feed me. Throughout my acts of kindness I found that doing the bare minimum can still have a vast effect. Of course I didn't have a million dollars to donate to a homeless shelter or to buy sports equipment to athletes. But I had the time and determination to do anything in my power to make a difference in someones life. I fear people take to many things in this world for granted and we don't realize how servere or the amount of impact we could make by dedicating or time.
I was driven by a desire to express gratitude to the community that had nurtured me. Without their support, I wouldn't be the person I am today, filled with confidence and gratitude. Recognizing that not everyone receives such support, I cherish the opportunity to make a positive impact in someone else's life through my actions.
Through my volunteering experiences, I discovered an inprovement in my leadership abilities and communication skills. My capacity for compassion and empathy deepened significantly. I polished my teamwork skills and became adept at managing my time effectively. My volunteering efforts opened my perspective, leading to increased cultural awareness.
Volunteering stitches together the quilt of positive change in society and the only way to finish it to one thread at a time.
Thanky you for taking the time to review my application.

My name is Ciara Adu-Addo and I love to volunteer. Within my 17 years of life, I have dedicated about 9 of them to volunteering and helping out my community. When I turned 8 when I found volunteering exciting and fun. Coming from a low-income single-parent household I wanted to be able to give back as much as I could to people in need. It started by helping the elderly in my neighborhood with any daily activities they needed to be done. I would go to the grocery store for them, help them with laundry, bring any bags they needed upstairs, walk with them and make sure they got to their intended destination safely, and much more. As I grew older I had gotten involved in different events and public events around Worcester. Living in an interactive city, I have been presented with various opportunities to offer my hand. I have been volunteering at my local Boys and Girls Club since I was 10 and I currently still dedicate my time to being involved in the members' lives and helping provide guidance, extra help, and support. I have also been volunteering at a neighborhood garden. Once a week I enter our gated garden and water everyone's plants. I refill the water jug and keep the space clean. If there are any fruits or vegetables that are ready to be picked I pick them and deliver them to whoever planted them. From time to time I babysit for free to help out family members and family friends. I also volunteer at a cheer gym that I am apart of. When I am not working at the gym i extend my helping hand for an extended period of time. I also volunteer to drive other people/underclassmen home or to the Boys and girls Club for school.
Ahead of me, I will be participating in helping set up a local vendor event in which a variety of food and art vendor will showcase their product to the community. I hope to continue volunteering 8 hours a week at the Boys and Girls club. I am going to start volunteering my time on weekends to help children with their soccer skills. I plan to give back to my community as my education starts furthering by continuing to share/provide a helping hand to my community and to the people who need a little help. I will continue to participate in volunteering opportunities to give back and show my appreciation to my community.

Sports Lover Scholarship
Sports play a big role in my upbringing and life/lifestyle. I was always an active child and could never quite stay in one place or sit still. I would watch almost every sport on tv and just be amazed by the players and the physical activity itself. Coming from a low-income, minority, single-parent household, I couldn't get or do a lot of things that other children my age were doing. I would always be the listener in the conversations about soccer practices, gymnastics, and dance practices on the big yellow bus. I would learn how to flip and play different sports on my own when I got the chance too. It wasn't until I was burning holes in my shoes with my mom trying to catch the bus that I decided to pursue sports. I am ranked one of the best well-rounded- athletes in my city.
I got the opportunity to participate in sports when I entered high school in my freshmen year. I signed up for the dance team, soccer, cheerleading Track, and Field. It was then my time to take advantage of the activities I always dreamed of being part of. Having commitments to a variety of activities left me always busy and moving. In that case, It helps me away from the not-so-good thing happening in my community or around me. I was able to stay out of trouble because I wasn't in the environment or in the position of making a bad choice. Ultimately being involved in sports not only saved my life but presented me with opportunities that I have now (college scholarships, invites, etc)
I am pursuing a career in sports because if I didn't I can't see myself being happy or content with my life. The whole concept of sports has my head wrapped around its finger. Athleticism is one of my favorite and best qualities I obtain. If I could be involved with the sport that gives me butterflies every day of my life, it wouldn't get any better than that. I want to be able to sit down with an athlete and help them with whatever they may need assistance with. Sports itself is a huge industry and the countless opportunities within that field leave me with various career options and connections. I have heard it is best to be in a career field that you align with, interests you or gets you excited.

Bold Learning and Changing Scholarship
Something that I have learned that has changed my perspective would be education is the golden ticket.
I always viewed school as a place I would go to while my mother was at work. A place where I could make friends and learn a thing or two. I was always at the top of my class and I never thought much of it. That was until I was accepted/invited into the 6th-grade class at Godard Scholar Academy, a school for students who are above average and excel higher than average kids. That was when people started talking to me about my future. It was explained to me that getting a good education, especially coming from a low income is very important. Coming from a low-income family I realized that I may miss out on a lot of great opportunities. That was when I had to start paying attention in my classes, take my learning seriously, and take advantage of the opportunities given to me. Now I see school and education as an opportunity for a brighter future. A ticket to the seat at the high table and out of poverty. Education is key
Bold Financial Literacy Scholarship
A personal finance lesson that I find important would be planning your money out and setting clear goals. For instance, I create a budget for every month. I add up my monthly bills and match that to my paychecks. I put half of the hats left into my savings account and the other half into my checking. I am a disorganized person, so doing this helped me stay in charge and highly organized.
I think that having a plan for your money makes it easier for you to save and keep track of what you are spending and what for. Without planning, you may end up with no money at all to cover bills and expenses.
