    Margot Bogner Memorial Scholarship
After wrapping up my freshman year at Kansas State University, I have learned so much about how to be the best student, woman, and friend, looking through the lens of Margot Bogner. When her husband came to speak to my sorority chapter, Alpha Chi Omega, at the beginning of this year, the impact of her story struck me deep. Margot’s legacy, compassion, and generous spirit were encapsulated through her husband, and encouraged me to apply for this scholarship. Like Margot, I value strong women whom I can learn from, confide in, and grow with. I found these women through Greek life. Although I’m not a Gamma Phi Beta like Margot, my sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, has a motto which states, "Together let us seek the heights." This phrase accurately describes my chapter and outlook on life. Through using teamwork, kindness, and encouragement, we can all achieve greatness. I believe that Margot strove for this every day, which is one of the ways I feel that I can connect with her. Surrounding yourself with positive people who will push you to be your best and help you when the times get tough is so important. I would describe myself as a “personal cheerleader” to my friends, but also to anyone who needs it. I am constantly highlighting others' important rewards, achievements, and small life goals. Having someone who’s in your corner when you least expect it or need it most can ultimately help alter someone’s self-confidence for the better and uplift their spirit. Margot had an ambitious education career, and I try to be as resilient as Margot in that aspect of my life. As a double major studying Communications and News & Sports Media with a minor in Leadership Studies, my schooling is very important to me. With a 3.9 GPA, I highly value my education and what is being taught in the classroom. I aim to learn as much as I can through the classroom, life experiences, and others, to grow as a person as much as possible, and share my knowledge. With my coursework load, two on-campus jobs, extracurricular activities, and relationships outside the classroom, I truly value being productive, timely, and taking advantage of every door that opens for me. I am passionate about sports, videography, and digital media. I aspire to work for a professional sports team post graduation and am always looking to find experiences and opportunities that best set me up for my future. I know that my path might not look exactly as Margot’s did; however, through our shared values of the importance of education, sisterhood in the people around you, and a positive, uplifting spirit to carry you through life, I feel Margot’s presence and passion in my everyday life. It’s an honor to write about her legacy and be considered an applicant for this scholarship. I can only hope that through my actions and words, I can live a kind and graceful life like she did. In the words of Alpha Chi Omega, thank you, Margot, for being a perfect example of what it means to be a Real. Strong. Women.
