Gregory Chase Carter Memorial Scholarship
As a Black high school senior, growing up in a low-income neighborhood has shaped the way I see the world. I’ve seen the struggles families face just to get by, and I’ve also seen the strength, talent, and determination that lives in people who never give up. That’s why when my church organized a community event to raise money for families in need and to promote small, up-and-coming Black-owned businesses, I knew I wanted to be involved. It wasn’t just about helping out—it was about being part of something bigger than myself.
At the event, I helped set up tables, assist vendors, and greet guests as they came in. The energy was amazing—food trucks lined the parking lot, music was playing, and small businesses had booths showcasing everything from handmade jewelry and clothing to baked goods and artwork. Many of the business owners were young, some just a few years older than me, and they were out there grinding, trying to make something out of nothing. Hearing their stories really inspired me. Some had started their businesses during tough times, with limited money and support, but they didn’t give up. Seeing their hustle made me realize how much talent lives right here in our community.
What made this event really meaningful to me was how it brought people together. It didn’t matter where you came from—everyone showed up with good energy and the same goal: to support one another. It felt like a reminder that we’re stronger when we move as one. The money raised went to families that needed help with rent, food, and school supplies. But even beyond the money, the event gave people hope. It gave small business owners a platform, and it gave young people like me a real example of what it looks like to build something for yourself and give back at the same time.
This experience showed me the power of community, and how much impact we can have when we work together. I didn’t feel like just a student volunteering—I felt like a leader. It taught me that I don’t have to wait until I’m older or more successful to make a difference. I can start now, just by showing up, using my voice, and supporting the people around me.
Looking ahead, I want to see more events like this. I want our community to keep creating spaces where young Black entrepreneurs can be seen and supported. I’d love to see more mentorship programs, more youth involvement, and more opportunities for us to turn our talents into something real. I believe when we invest in each other, we all grow.
Being part of this event was a powerful experience. It reminded me of who I am, where I come from, and what I’m capable of. Most importantly, it reminded me that change doesn’t start somewhere far away—it starts right here, with us.
Team USA Fan Scholarship
Kevin Durant is my favorite player on Team USA because he’s everything I look up to as a basketball fan and a high school senior who plays the game every day. KD isn’t just a scorer—he’s a walking bucket. Whether it’s a three-pointer, a pull-up jumper, or a drive to the rim, he makes it look so smooth and effortless. Watching him play motivates me to keep working on my own game.
What really stands out to me is how he shows up when it matters most. I still remember watching him carry Team USA during the Tokyo Olympics. When things got tight, KD didn’t back down—he stepped up, led the team, and dropped buckets like it was nothing. That kind of composure under pressure is something I really admire and hope to develop myself.
He’s not flashy off the court either, and I respect that. He just puts his head down and works, which is the kind of mindset I try to have with my team. KD plays with heart, skill, and a ton of pride for his country. That’s why he’s my favorite on Team USA—he represents what it means to be great at the game, and I look up to that.
LeBron James Fan Scholarship
As a high school senior and a huge basketball fan, LeBron James has been my favorite player from the beginning , ever since I started watching basketball. I grew up watching his highlights, interviews, and games, and he’s the reason I fell in love with basketball in the first place. What makes LeBron so special to me isn’t just how talented he is, but how he carries himself. He plays with heart, intelligence, and always puts his team first. He can do it all—score, pass, rebound, defend—and he makes it look effortless.
In my opinion, LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time. He’s the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, and he’s also one of the best passers ever. That kind of balance is rare. He’s won championships with three different teams and has stayed dominant for over 20 years, which is just insane. Most players slow down with age, but LeBron is still going strong in his 40s. Off the court, he’s a role model too—he gives back, supports education, and speaks up for what’s right.
LeBron inspires me not just as an athlete, but as a person. He’s the definition of greatness, and to me, he’ll always be the GOAT.
