My family's income was below the Federal Poverty Level when I was growing up, so we had to rely on Medicaid, SNAP, federal housing assistance, and other programs to cover our basic expenses. Even though this financial difficulty has persisted, it has also taught me to be adaptable and to value planning. These lessons have been essential as I've followed my interest in technology, research, and security. From a young age, I was fascinated by the workings of objects. I got my first Raspberry Pi when I was three years old, and it ignited a passion for technology exploration that has lasted a lifetime. To my mother's terror and joy, I frequently disassembled toys out of curiosity and made up new activities. During primary school, I participated in free programming camps where I learned about robots, website creation, and Scratch. These encounters gave my STEM journey a strong start. My journey hasn't been without obstacles, however. Depressing experiences with a computer science teacher in high school momentarily stopped my passion for programming. However, I returned by taking an IT/networking course that rekindled my love for technology. I learned about cybersecurity here, a field that satisfies my interest and love of finding solutions to challenging issues. I get my dopamine rush from learning new technologies and taking on challenges, and as someone with ADHD, I thrive on this stimulation. My experience with ADHD has significantly influenced my educational journey. While it presents particular difficulties—such as trouble starting projects, managing excessive details, and overcoming social misconceptions—it has also endowed me with unique strengths, like the ability to grasp complex processes quickly. These qualities are particularly well-suited for the dynamic field of cybersecurity, which demands flexibility, quick thinking, and an unwavering quest for knowledge.
