After every obstacle, there is a lesson to be learned. From my experience, it helped me become a better student. Moving schools made my Honors Math Analysis class more difficult than it was at my previous school. I had been used to using calculators my whole life. I would even use it during my tests and quizzes because my teachers allowed it. My new school did not allow any calculators unless you were in an AP Calculus class. I asked my classmates if calculators were allowed since I hadn't seen any in my math class. They responded with "we don't use calculators in this class..our teachers have always said calculators are bad". I was in shock, I had never heard of a math class without calculators. It was a challenge getting comfortable to not using any calculator. At first, I thought I couldn't do it. I believed it was going to be difficult to live without a calculator. I had become so comfortable with using my calculator for every calculation I had to preform. Turns out that living without a calculator was not difficult, it just took some time to get used to. This gives me a better view of what to expect for some college classes. I am now able to do calculations in my head. I believe it has shaped me into a better student by allowing me to use my brain more than I used to. Furthermore, this obstacle has taught me that although obstacles and challenges may come unexpectedly, it will get better and I’ll be able to overcome it.
