In modern science, breakthroughs often occur at the intersection of multiple disciplines. My passion for data science stems from its potential to revolutionize industries. I’ve seen firsthand how this field can lead innovation in neuroscience, an intersection that resonates deeply with me. As the oldest of eleven siblings and the first in my family to pursue higher education, my journey embodies the transformative power of perseverance and determination. Growing up, I witnessed the significance of education and its potential to break generational barriers. My father never completed middle school and my mom dropped out of high school to raise me alone. I am now the oldest of 11 siblings and hope to be an inspiration to my younger siblings. This conviction fueled my aspiration to pursue a career in neural data science and become a catalyst for change within my family and community. Preparing for college as a first-generation student required proactive steps and resilience. I sought mentorship to navigate the complexities of the college application process and life beyond acceptance. Many of my advisors suggested that I pursue my master’s in an adjacent field to allow me to explore a niche within the increasingly broad field of data science. I have always had a passion for neuroscience and originally went into university as a pre-med major. Being exposed to the intersection of healthcare and technology has ignited a fervor within me to pursue the Erasmus Mundus Brain and Data Science master's program that combines my two passions and allows me to innovate in this groundbreaking new field. This program is part of a unique curriculum that will take place in 4 universities across the world to allow students to get a holistic view of this budding field. I love to travel and have had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad on scholarship twice in my undergrad. Studying abroad in the UAE and Morocco has expanded my horizons, offering me a global perspective on the importance of education and the role it plays in shaping societies. It has allowed me to further immerse myself in discussions surrounding sustainability, technology, and neuroscience. This has served to reinforce my commitment to contributing meaningfully to these critical conversations. My education in the UAE has availed me to opportunities in computer science that weren’t available in the United States. However, the financial challenges of funding my education and life abroad, compounded by my family's circumstances, remain a hurdle. I am passionate about following my dreams and breaking ground in this new field. I hope to advance neuroscience technology by using AI to create better maps of the human brain and creating expert systems to aid doctors in their diagnoses of neurological issues.

Navigating my undergraduate journey as a first-generation student and the oldest of eleven children, I've been profoundly influenced and inspired by two incredible role models: Dr. Theda Daniels-Race, a computer nanotechnology expert, and my single mother, whose resilience and strength have been a guiding light in my life. Dr. Daniels-Race has been instrumental in shaping my academic aspirations. I spent two years working as the lead receptionist in the Computer Science department at Louisiana State University and I often came into contact with Dr. Race. She always made time to speak with me about opportunities for women in computer science, especially as it pertained to post-undergrad studies. Initially, I’d never considered continuing my education after my bachelors, but after two years of her constant support I’ve decided to pursue a master's degree in Brain and Data Science. Her mentorship and encouragement have propelled my interest in this evolving intersection of technology and neuroscience. In parallel, my single mother has been an unwavering source of inspiration and support. Her determination as a teen mother raising a large family have instilled in me the importance of resilience and perseverance. Her unwavering support and sacrifices to provide for our family have been the cornerstone of my pursuit of higher learning. I took my first college class at 13 years old and my mom was there at every step of the way supporting me and connecting with mentors who could help me in my journey in higher education. Almost 7 years later, I am determined to make my mother proud and break generational cycles by being the first in my family to graduate with my bachelors. As a 19 year old senior in college, this dream is so close. I’m currently studying abroad in the UAE pursuing opportunities in computer science that are unattainable in the US. Without a job or financial support from family, I find myself in an unideal situation but their influence has shaped my determination to excel academically and professionally. Their examples underscore the transformative power of education and remind me that through dedication and hard work, barriers can be overcome. The lessons I've learned from Dr. Daniels-Race's mentorship and my mother's unwavering support have fortified my resolve to succeed in academia. Their stories of resilience and triumph in the face of adversity inspire me daily as I navigate my undergraduate journey. Their unwavering support and guidance fuel my determination to make a meaningful impact and pave the way for my younger siblings.

As a student I have been shaped by determination, resilience, and a deep-rooted commitment to education. Growing up in a large family where resources were limited, I assumed a role of responsibility early on, not just as a student but also as a caregiver to my great grandparents and a mentor to my 10 younger siblings. My passion for education grew from these formative experiences. Tutoring and teaching became a way to empower others and provide support where resources were scarce. My path as an tutor and teacher was influenced by the challenges we faced as a family. I witnessed firsthand the transformative power of education in breaking barriers and creating opportunities. Later in my life, each student who graduated and passed their English fluency test became a testament to the belief that education is a catalyst for change, not just for individuals but for entire communities. Being a first-generation student and raised by a single mother instilled in me a drive to defy odds and pursue higher education. It fueled my determination to not only succeed academically but also to inspire my siblings to reach for the stars. I plan to graduate with my bachelor’s in Data Analytics in Fall 2024 at 20 years old. After this, I’ll start applications to Master’s programs in Brain and Data Science. In my tutoring and teaching roles, leadership extended beyond imparting knowledge; it encompassed mentorship and guidance, requiring a structured approach to balancing multiple commitments. These experiences instilled in me the importance of effective communication, adaptability, and empathy—qualities crucial to leading and supporting others in their educational journeys. Studying abroad in the UAE broadened my horizons, offering opportunities to engage in panels, discussions, and cultural exchanges. These experiences honed my leadership in a global context, amplifying my ability to articulate ideas, collaborate effectively, and lead conversations on diverse platforms. As a 19-year-old senior in college, navigating diverse roles has reinforced the value of effective time allocation and prioritization. These experiences, though challenging, have strengthened my ability to lead, adapt, and thrive in multifaceted environments. They've shaped my leadership style, emphasizing empathy, adaptability, and a commitment to excellence as fundamental pillars in guiding and inspiring others. Ultimately, my goal is to harness the power of data to unlock the mysteries of the brain. Current science has recently been able to create detailed maps of rodent brains to be created. The next generation of brain science will I want to shape the future of neurological research and applications as a Neurodata Scientist.

My dedication to helping others be their best has been shaped by a journey focused on leveraging my skills to uplift and empower those around me. Teaching adults English has become a deeply ingrained purpose and passion. My initial experience was in tutoring children and stems from a commitment to nurturing young minds. I've honed my ability to communicate complex concepts in simple, accessible ways. As the oldest of 11 children, this is a skill that came naturally to me. Through patience, creativity, and personalized teaching methods, I've witnessed struggling students transform into confident learners, excelling in their academics. Teaching English to Emirati adults seeking higher education opportunities abroad was something new and exciting. Teaching adults requires a vastly different skill set than teaching children. I've facilitated language learning, empowering individuals to overcome language barriers and pursue their academic dreams. Witnessing their growth and newfound confidence to navigate academic settings abroad has fueled my passion for enabling access to education. When my last class of students graduated this month, I was pleased to hear that almost all of them were following through with their commitment to higher education and most of them had chosen to study in an English speaking country. Many Emiratis come to class knowing some English from media or from the highly globalized environment of the UAE. However, many of them quickly realize that their grammar and pronunciation skills are severely lacking. Most times, they are able to get their point across but not in a way suitable for higher education and professional environments. I moved to the UAE from the US in hopes of a different environment in Computer Science and more support in my Arabic language learning journey. Working with these students is not only fulfilling and entertaining, but it also allows me to help them be their best. My skills have evolved through practical experience and a genuine desire to make a difference. I've developed effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse learning needs, fostering an environment where individuals thrive. Beyond imparting knowledge, I strive to instill a sense of confidence and self-belief in those I teach. Many students lack this integral part of language learning and it hinders them when speaking to new people. It's more than a set of skills; it's a purposeful dedication to empower individuals to reach their full potential. Guiding children and adults alike to overcome educational barriers aligns with my belief in the transformative power of education. Helping others be their best has become not just a skill set but a deeply ingrained part of my purpose, one that fuels my passion to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those I teach. As I enter my third semester living alone, I find myself struggling to pay for university and living costs. I am a first generation college student and neither of my parents completed high school. They are not able to financially support me. Although I do have a job tutoring, my checks are going to increasing rent prices and textbooks. I am not eligible for most scholarships at my university because I am a US citizen. This scholarship would allow me to focus on school and teaching. Thank you for your consideration.

In my first C++ class, I worked on a project that kindled my passion for technology and showcased its potential to address real-world problems. The task was to create a simple program that could solve a practical issue, and I chose to tackle food waste in my community. I developed a basic inventory management system that allowed users to input and track their food items, set expiration dates, and receive automated reminders for items about to expire. This project aimed to make a meaningful impact by reducing food waste, benefiting both individuals and small businesses. It used my new C++ knowledge with my existing competence in data science. The process of creating this program was both challenging and rewarding. I had to apply the concepts I learned in my introductory class, such as classes, loops, and functions, to design a somewhat user-friendly interface. As I delved into coding and testing, I saw how technology could be harnessed to make daily life easier and more efficient. This experience was honestly transformative. It demonstrated the power of technology even in its most elementary form and inspired me to explore the vast potential within the field. What motivated me most was the positive feedback from users who found the tool useful. Small business owners expressed their gratitude a it helped sthem save money and minimize food waste. That experience served as a pivotal moment in my technological journey and reinforced my belief in technology's capacity to inspire change. It ignited a passion for utilizing technology to make a difference, whether through complex innovations or simple yet effective solutions. This project reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in technology. It showed me that even small-scale projects have a significant impact. After that class, I dove even deeper into data analytics and computer science, earning the Google Data Analytics Certificate. I think the biggest investing tip that I’ve taken to heart is to prioritize my future over my present. This tip is important to me because I don’t just apply it to investing but I also apply it to everyday life. When I’m tired from work or school I remind myself of the impact I plan to make in the future and I’m able to continue working. Ever since receiving this advice I’ve tried to implement it as much as possible. When money hits my bank account, I’m able to make smart investing and saving decisions because I’m prioritizing my future earnings over the latest gadget or clothing item I want to buy. I think this is an advice that should be given to everyone.

I think that despite the cards that a person is dealt in life, they should be given an equal opportunity to elevate themselves through education. I’m a first generation college student and the oldest of 11 children. Fortunately, through the help of mentors and the adults in my life, I’ve been able to earn my place in a flagship university. I’ve been afforded the time to focus on my studies. Unfortunately, so many will never receive this chance through no fault of their own. Even now despite the work I’ve put in to get to this place in life I’m undergoing financial hardship. This is partly due to educational inequity. Those that were born into marginalized groups and less privileged backgrounds have a significantly harder time receiving higher education and I think this basic reality goes against the American dream. As Americans and as humans, educational inequality is something we should all be aware of and strive to remedy.

African-American Entrepreneurs Grant — Female Award
As an African American Muslimah in the West there are limited options for modest clothing. When I converted to Islam, I quickly noticed that all of the attractive modest clothing was way too expensive. Furthermore, the modest clothing that was affordable seemed way to mature for someone my age. I felt that that was unfair to all Westerners who choose to dress in a modest way. Especially those with limited finances. I decide to take some initiative and make a change by partnering with the Young Entrepreneurs Association in my city in an effort to cultivate a clothing brand that is modest, affordable, and stylish. After researching and speaking with potential customers in my target market, I am even more sure that this will leave a lasting positive impact on both Western fashion and modest fashion. The clothing for my brand will be made ethically and sustainably manufactured the United States. Many brands create their clothing in an unsustainable and arguably unethical way. That is precisely the type of behavior that I am trying to combat. My brand will bend the rules of fashion to create interesting and mesmerizing silhouettes. It will include patterns and styles influenced by Middle Eastern and African Countries while still loosely adhering to Western styles in a way that is flattering. Our sizes will be inclusive and our models will be of varied body types and skin tones. I am making this brand to solve faults that I have found in other brands while making a profound impact on Muslim community. This scholarship would be immensely helpful. I would love to include both tall and petite sizes early on in the launch. However, those types of marginalized sizes cost a significant amount of money to include so early on in production. Little Bundle Supermom Scholarship — High School Award
My mother is the strongest person I know. She endured both emotional and physical abuse at the hands of my father. Due to the physical abuse she underwent, she was expected to miscarry. At 17 years old with abusive parents, she had nowhere to turn. Luckily I survived and she turned her life around. My mom is a manager at a Fortune 500 company who takes great care of me and my 3 siblings. She has shown me the meaning of work ethic. But more importantly she has shown me the meaning of love. I plan to go into Nursing School in the fall. Nursing is something that's really important to me. The career will provide a way to help others while not being stuck to a set schedule and having enough free time to pursue my various hobbies. If I won this scholarship it would mean my mom wouldn't have to go into debt paying my college tuition.
