Dynamic Edge Women in STEM Scholarship
Hearing the words "science fiction nightmare" being used to describe a female driven society is one way to make one reflect on how culture views women. When asked the question of what my favorite tech invention in the past 10 years was, my mind is immediately drawn to the possibility of women being able to reproduce without the presence of a man's sperm. Not because I want a world without any men in it, but because all my academic career, I have been told that not many women go into it and succeed. I've watched, on a collegiate level, men speak over women as if we don't read the same textbooks, put the same amount of effort, and aren't capable of earning the same grades. As if our gender changes how we comprehend things once we step into a world of math and science. What I hope to contribute to the world through my journey of becoming a scientific researcher, is to one day become the reason a little girl looks up at me and thinks to herself, "Well, someone told me I couldn't because I'm a girl, but she's doing it, so why not me?" Even if it's one girl out of a million, if I can shorten the gap we have created between genders by just a millimeter, I will die happy.
