Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
My experience with mental health has shaped the way I see myself, other people, and the world around me. There were times in my life when I felt overwhelmed and did not really know how to deal with everything I was feeling. I kept a lot of things to myself because I did not feel comfortable talking about it, and I did not always feel like people would understand. Trying to handle everything alone made things harder for me, and it took time for me to realize that mental health is something that should not be ignored. Going through those moments changed me. It made me more aware of how important mental health really is. I learned that just because someone looks okay on the outside does not mean they are okay on the inside. That realization stayed with me. Because of that, I try not to judge people quickly. I have become more patient and more understanding, because I know what it feels like to be struggling and not saying anything. My experience has also affected how I build relationships. Before, I did not always think deeply about checking in on people or asking how they were really doing. Now, I do. I try to be more present with people and actually listen when they talk. I have learned that sometimes people just need someone to hear them out without judging them. I also understand how important it is to have people in your life who support you and allow you to be open. That has changed the kind of friendships and connections I value. At the same time, my journey has helped me grow personally. I have learned how to push through difficult moments, even when I feel overwhelmed. I have learned that it is okay to not have everything figured out, but it is important to keep going. These experiences have made me stronger and more aware of myself. They have also taught me the importance of taking care of both my mental and emotional health. My experience with mental health is also one of the reasons I chose to go into healthcare. Working as a patient care technician has shown me that patients are not only dealing with physical issues, but also emotional and mental struggles. I have seen patients who are scared, anxious, or feeling alone. In those moments, I try to be someone who brings calm and comfort, even in small ways. I realized that healthcare is not just about treating the body. It is also about understanding the person as a whole. That is something I connect with deeply because of what I have been through. I want to be someone who truly sees people and cares about how they feel, not just what they are going through physically. In the future, I plan to become a nurse and later a CRNA. I want to continue growing in this field and take on more responsibility in patient care. I also want to create an environment where patients feel safe, respected, and supported. I know that going into surgery or being in a hospital can be very stressful, and I want to be someone who helps ease that stress for them. My understanding of the world has also changed because of my experiences. I believe that more people are struggling than we realize, and a lot of them are dealing with it quietly. That is why I believe it is important to have more open conversations about mental health. People should not feel ashamed of what they are going through. Overall, my journey with mental health has shaped who I am today. It has made me more compassionate, more understanding, and more aware of others. It has also helped guide my goals and the kind of impact I want to make in the future. I want to use my experiences to help others feel seen, supported, and cared for, because I know how important that can be.

What inspired me to go into the medical field was honestly my experiences working as a patient care technician. Before that, I knew I wanted to help people, but I did not fully understand what that looked like. Once I started working in the ICU, everything changed for me. I saw patients at their worst moments. Some were scared, some were in pain, and some could not even speak for themselves. Being in that environment showed me how important it is to have someone there who actually cares. I was not doing anything huge all the time, but even small things like helping a patient get comfortable or just checking on them made a difference. That is when I realized I wanted to do more than just assist. I wanted to be more involved in their care. There were moments that really stuck with me. I remember patients who were anxious or unsure about what was happening to them. Just talking to them, staying calm, and being present helped them feel a little better. That made me realize that healthcare is not just about medicine. It is also about how you treat people. Working in healthcare has changed me as a person. I have become more patient and more understanding. I have also learned how to stay focused even when things are stressful. Watching nurses work and how they handle situations inspired me to keep going and push myself further. In the future, I plan to become a registered nurse and then continue my education to become a CRNA. I want to be able to care for patients in a deeper way and take on more responsibility. As a CRNA, I know I will be helping patients during surgeries, which can be very stressful for them. I want to be someone who helps them feel calm and safe during that time. I also want to make a difference by how I treat people. I want my patients to feel respected and cared for, no matter what they are going through. I know that even small actions can stay with someone, and I want to be a positive part of their experience. Overall, I chose this path because I want to help people in a real way. I am not just doing this for a job, but because I truly care. I want to keep growing, keep learning, and use my career to make a difference in people’s lives.
    Pay It Forward Scholarship
I chose the field of healthcare because I have always felt called to help people during difficult times. I did not just want a career where I go to work and leave. I wanted something meaningful where I can make a real difference in people’s lives. Healthcare stood out to me because it allows me to care for others, support them, and be there when they need it most. My experience working as a patient care technician has played a big role in my decision. In the ICU, I see patients who are going through serious health conditions. Some are scared, some are in pain, and some cannot speak for themselves. Being able to care for them, even in small ways, has shown me how important healthcare workers are. I have learned that simple actions like being patient, listening, and showing kindness can bring comfort to someone who is struggling. These experiences have helped me grow as a person. I have become more compassionate, more understanding, and more patient. I have also learned how important it is to stay calm and focused in stressful situations. Seeing nurses and other healthcare workers do their jobs has inspired me to continue my journey in this field. In the future, I plan to become a registered nurse and then continue my education to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). As a nurse, I want to provide safe, compassionate care to my patients. I want to be someone who listens, supports, and treats every patient with respect. As a future CRNA, I will care for patients during surgeries, which can be one of the most stressful times in their lives. I want to help patients feel safe and comfortable before and after procedures. I want them to trust that they are in good hands. I also want to continue learning and improving so I can give the best care possible. My goal is not just to have a career, but to make a lasting impact. I want to use my degree to help people, support families, and give hope during hard times. I also want to give back to my community and help those who may not have access to proper healthcare. Choosing healthcare is more than just a decision for me. It is a purpose. I am committed to working hard, finishing my education, and becoming the best nurse and CRNA I can be. I want my work to reflect care, compassion, and a desire to make a difference in the lives of others.

To me, “Be More” means not settling for where I am, but always growing into a better person who can help others. In my journey in nursing, I plan to “Be More” by becoming a nurse who truly cares for people, not just their illness, but their feelings and overall well-being. Right now, I work as a patient care technician, and this has taught me a lot about what it means to care for others. I see patients who are scared, in pain, or going through some of the hardest moments of their lives. In those moments, I try to “Be More” by being patient, kind, and present. I have learned that even small actions, like listening or offering comfort, can make a big difference. These experiences have shaped me and made me realize that I want to do even more in the healthcare field. In the future, I plan to become a registered nurse and then continue my education to become a CRNA. As a CRNA, I will care for patients during surgeries, which can be very stressful and scary for them. I want to “Be More” by helping patients feel safe, calm, and cared for during these critical times. I want to be someone they can trust, even if it is just for a short moment before a procedure. I also plan to “Be More” by giving back to my community. I want to help people who may not have access to proper healthcare and support those who feel alone or overlooked. I understand what it feels like to go through challenges without much support, and I want to use my experiences to help others stay strong and keep going. My education is very important to me because it is the path that will allow me to create a better future for myself and others. I am working hard now so I can make a lasting, positive impact in people’s lives. “Be More” means growing, serving, and using my knowledge to care for others with compassion and purpose. That is the kind of nurse and future CRNA I want to become.

Cancer has affected my life in a very personal way. My aunty battled cancer, and watching her go through that experience changed me deeply. She was someone I loved, and seeing her struggle was one of the hardest things I have ever faced. I remember praying for her often, believing that she would get better. One moment that stays with me is when I texted her and told her, “You will get better.” She responded, “Yes and amen.” That gave me hope. I held on to those words, trusting that things would turn around. But as time went on, her condition became worse, and eventually, she passed away. Losing her broke me in a way I did not expect. This experience affected me not just emotionally, but also in my education. At the time, I was in nursing school, trying to stay focused and move forward. But the pain of losing her, along with financial stress, became overwhelming. I had to take a year off from school. It was not an easy decision, but I needed time to process everything and find my strength again. Even though that season was difficult, it taught me important lessons. I learned that life is not always in our control, but how we respond to it matters. I also learned the importance of being present for people when they are hurting. Sometimes, you cannot fix what someone is going through, but you can be there for them, pray for them, and show them love. Watching my aunty fight cancer also made my desire to become a nurse even stronger. I saw how important healthcare workers are, not just in treating illness, but in supporting patients and families during hard times. I want to be that kind of nurse someone who cares not only about the physical health of patients, but also their emotional well-being. This experience also taught me about faith. Even though I prayed for healing and things did not turn out the way I hoped, I still believe that God has a plan. My aunty’s life and her strength through her illness showed me what it means to stay hopeful, even in difficult times. Her “yes and amen” response is something I will never forget. It reminds me to keep believing, even when things are uncertain. My family was affected not only by the loss, but also by the emotional and financial stress that came with her illness. It showed me how much cancer impacts not just one person, but everyone around them. This is why I want to continue my education and move forward in nursing. I want to help families going through similar situations and be a source of comfort and support. In the future, I hope to use my experiences to care for others with compassion and understanding. Losing my aunty was painful, but it also gave me purpose. It reminded me why I started this journey and why I must continue.

I want to pursue a career in STEM because I have a heart to help people, especially in my community. I am working toward becoming a nurse, and my experiences in the hospital have shown me how powerful healthcare can be. To me, STEM is not just about learning facts. It is about using what you know to care for others and make a real difference in people’s lives. Working as a patient care technician in the ICU has changed how I see the world. I have taken care of patients who are scared, in pain, and sometimes fighting for their lives. I have seen families worried and unsure of what will happen next. In those moments, I realized how important it is to have someone who truly cares. I do my best to treat every patient with kindness and respect, because even small actions can mean a lot to someone going through a hard time. I have also noticed problems in our community when it comes to healthcare. Some people do not trust the system because of past experiences. Others do not have the money or support to get help early, so they come in when their condition is already worse. This showed me that our community needs more healthcare workers who understand these struggles. I want to be one of those nurses who not only gives care but also listens and supports patients. There is also a lack of Black representation in STEM, especially in healthcare. This matters because patients feel more comfortable when they are understood. I want to be someone who helps patients feel seen and heard. I want them to know that their life matters and that they deserve the best care. In the future, I want to use my degree to educate my community. Many health problems can be prevented if people have the right information. I want to teach others about taking care of their health, going to check-ups, and making better choices. I also want to be involved in programs that help young people learn about STEM and believe in themselves. I also want to be an example. I know what it feels like to go through challenges and still keep going. I work hard in school while also working, and it is not always easy. But I stay focused because I know my purpose is bigger than my situation. I want younger students to see my journey and believe that they can do it too. My faith keeps me strong through everything. I believe God has brought me this far for a reason, and I trust Him with my future. When things get hard, I remind myself that I am not alone. I am not just working for a degree I am working to fulfill a purpose. In the future, I want to be more than just a nurse. I want to uplift my community, help people live healthier lives, and inspire others to follow their dreams. STEM is my pathway to do that, and I am ready to use it to make a difference.
Sgt. Albert Dono Ware Memorial Scholarship
Sgt. Albert Dono Ware’s life shows what it means to serve others with courage and sacrifice. His story inspires me to live with purpose and to help people in my own way. The values of service, sacrifice, and bravery have shaped my life and continue to guide me as I work toward becoming a nurse. I truly believe that God has placed this path before me for a reason. Service is something I practice every day. I work as a patient care technician in the ICU, where I care for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Many of my patients are scared, in pain, or unsure about what will happen next. In those moments, I try to show kindness, patience, and respect. Sometimes, service is not about doing something big. It can be as simple as listening, helping someone feel comfortable, or making sure they are treated with dignity. I believe God calls us to care for others, and I try to reflect His love in the way I treat my patients. Sacrifice has also been a big part of my journey. I am in school full-time while also working full-time. This has not been easy. There are days when I feel tired, stressed, and overwhelmed. I have had to give up rest, time with friends, and comfort to stay focused on my goals. I also face financial pressure and challenges from not having strong family support. Even through all of this, I keep going. I remind myself that God did not bring me this far to leave me. My faith keeps me strong and helps me stay focused on the future I am working toward. Bravery, for me, means not giving up even when things are hard. It means trusting God even when I do not fully understand the path ahead. As a Black student in healthcare, I know there are challenges, including unfair systems and lack of representation. But I choose to keep going because I want to be part of the change. I want to become a nurse who not only helps people physically but also supports them emotionally and spiritually. There are many challenges facing the African diaspora in the United States today. Some of the biggest issues include unequal healthcare, limited access to education, and financial struggles. One important change we need is better access to healthcare that understands different cultures. Many people in our community do not trust the healthcare system because of past experiences. We need more diverse healthcare workers and better training so patients feel safe, heard, and respected. Community support is also very important. We need more programs that help with mental health, education, and healthy living. Teaching people how to take care of their health early can prevent bigger problems later. Schools should also support students from all backgrounds and give them the tools they need to succeed. To make these changes happen, different groups must work together. Healthcare systems, schools, government leaders, and community members all have a role. Real change happens when people come together and support one another with a shared goal. Sgt. Albert Dono Ware’s life reminds me that serving others is one of the greatest ways to live. His courage and sacrifice inspire me to keep going, even when things are difficult. Through my journey in healthcare, I want to continue that legacy by helping others, trusting God through every step, and making a real difference in my community. I believe that with faith, hard work, and a heart for service, I can be part of something greater than myself.

The first time I worked with a patient in the hospital, I realized how much I enjoy helping others. That moment helped me understand who I am and what I want to do in life. I am someone who cares deeply about people and works hard to reach my goals, both in school and in life. I come from a family where strength and support matter a lot. My mother has played a big role in shaping who I am today. She has always encouraged me to stay focused on my education and to never give up, even when things get hard. She taught me the value of discipline, respect, and hard work. Watching her push through challenges has inspired me to do the same. Because of her, I understand that success does not come easy, but it is always worth it. My education journey has been full of growth and learning. I studied health and human sciences, and now I am continuing my education in nursing. I also work in a hospital as a patient care technician, where I get real experience helping patients every day. Balancing work and school has taught me how to manage my time and stay committed to my goals. It is not always easy, but I stay motivated because I know I am working toward something meaningful. Outside of school and work, I stay active and focused on improving myself. I believe that having discipline in all areas of life is important. Whether it is through physical activity, staying consistent with my goals, or pushing myself to do better, I always try to grow into a stronger and more focused person. I understand the importance of staying dedicated, just like student-athletes who balance both academics and performance. In the future, I plan to become a registered nurse and continue growing in the healthcare field. I want to be someone who makes a positive impact on others by providing care, support, and comfort. I also want to give back to my community by helping people live healthier lives and by being someone they can trust during difficult times. My goal is not just to succeed for myself, but to make a difference in the lives of others. Thank you for taking the time to read my essay and for offering this opportunity. I truly appreciate the chance to apply for this scholarship. May God bless you for supporting students who are working hard to reach their goals and build a better future.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I want to become a nurse because I care deeply about helping people when they are going through hard times. Right now, I work in a hospital as a patient care technician, and this experience has helped me understand what nursing is really about. I help patients with daily care, such as bathing, moving, and making sure they are comfortable. I also get to talk with them and support them when they feel scared or unsure. Being in this role has shown me that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day. These moments made me realize that nursing is not just a job for me, but something I truly want to do in life. Working in the hospital has also taught me how important it is to be patient, calm, and respectful. Every patient is different, and each one has their own needs. Some are in pain, some are nervous, and some just need someone to listen. I have learned how to stay calm in stressful situations and how to treat every person with care and dignity. These are skills I will continue to use as I grow in my nursing career. Going to school while working has not always been easy, but it has made me stronger and more focused. There are times when I feel tired or stressed, but I remind myself why I started. I want to build a better future for myself and also be able to help others. Nursing school is challenging, but I am committed to learning everything I need to become a great nurse. I am developing skills like time management, responsibility, and discipline, which will help me succeed both in school and in my career. I want to become a nurse because I enjoy being there for people during important moments in their lives. In my current role, I support the healthcare team and make sure patients are safe and cared for. However, I want to do more. As a nurse, I will be able to assess patients, make decisions, and take a bigger role in their care. I am especially interested in working in areas of the hospital where patients need close attention and quick care. I want to be someone who can think fast, stay calm, and still show compassion. In the future, I hope to give back to my community by being a nurse who people can trust. I want to treat every patient with kindness, no matter their background or situation. I also want to help educate people about their health so they can make better choices and prevent illness. I believe that nurses play an important role not just in hospitals, but in the community as well. They help guide people, support families, and bring comfort during difficult times. Becoming a nurse means turning my passion for helping others into a career where I can make a real difference every day. My experiences in the hospital, along with my dedication to my education, have prepared me for this path. I am ready to continue learning, growing, and working hard to achieve my goal. Nursing is more than just a profession to me it is a way to serve others and be a positive impact in the world.
    Deborah Stevens Pediatric Nursing Scholarship
I am choosing a career in nursing because I have a strong desire to care for others and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Nursing allows me to combine compassion with clinical knowledge to support patients during some of the most vulnerable moments they experience. I believe healthcare is not only about treating illness but also about providing comfort, reassurance, and advocacy for patients and their families. This understanding has continued to grow as I progress through nursing school and gain real experience in healthcare settings. Currently, I am a nursing student and also work as a patient care technician in the intensive care unit (ICU). Working in the ICU has allowed me to see firsthand how important nurses are in patient care. Many of the patients in this unit are critically ill and require close monitoring, support, and reassurance. In these situations, nurses play a vital role not only in managing medical treatments but also in providing emotional support to both patients and their families. Watching nurses communicate with compassion, remain calm in high-stress situations, and advocate for their patients has strengthened my desire to pursue nursing as a career. Through my work in the ICU, I have learned that nursing is more than performing tasks or assisting with treatments. It is about building trust with patients, being present during difficult moments, and showing empathy when people are experiencing fear or uncertainty. These experiences have helped me understand the impact that a compassionate nurse can have on a patient’s healthcare journey. My interest in pediatric nursing became even stronger during my pediatric and women and children clinical rotation. Before beginning this rotation, many students mentioned that it might be one of the most difficult clinical experiences. However, for me it became one of the most rewarding. During this time, I discovered how much I enjoy working with children and interacting with them in a healthcare environment. Children require a special level of patience, empathy, and creativity when providing care. Many pediatric patients may not fully understand why they are in the hospital or what is happening to them. Because of this, nurses must find ways to help them feel safe and comfortable. During my clinical rotation, I enjoyed communicating with pediatric patients, helping them feel less afraid, and creating a positive environment despite the challenges of being in the hospital. Working with children also showed me the importance of supporting families during difficult times. Parents and caregivers often experience worry and stress when their child is ill. Nurses play an important role in providing reassurance, education, and emotional support to families while caring for the child. For these reasons, I would love to pursue pediatric nursing as part of my future career. My goal is to provide compassionate, patient-centered care that supports both children and their families during challenging healthcare experiences. By combining my clinical education, healthcare experience, and dedication to helping others, I hope to make a positive and lasting impact in pediatric nursing.

    1. Please discuss your personal inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing. My inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing comes from my passion for helping others and my experiences working directly with patients. As a patient care technician in the ICU, I have had the opportunity to witness how compassionate healthcare professionals can make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and their families. Being present during some of the most difficult moments in a person’s life has shown me the true importance of empathy, patience, and dedication in healthcare. Working in the ICU has strengthened my desire to become a nurse. I have seen patients who are scared, in pain, or uncertain about their future. In those moments, the kindness and reassurance of a nurse can bring comfort and hope. Observing nurses care for patients with skill and compassion has inspired me to pursue the same path so that I can make a positive impact on others. My faith and personal values also play an important role in my decision to become a nurse. I believe that caring for others is a calling and a way to serve my community. Nursing allows me to combine my passion for science with my desire to help people during vulnerable moments in their lives. In the future, I hope to use my nursing education to serve diverse communities and provide compassionate, patient-centered care. My goal is not only to treat illness but also to support patients emotionally and encourage them during difficult times. Through nursing, I hope to make a lasting impact by caring for others with compassion, dignity, and respect. 2. What “Human Touch” Means in Patient Care To me, the phrase “human touch” in healthcare means providing care with empathy, compassion, and genuine concern for the patient as a person, not just a medical condition. While medical knowledge and technology are essential in modern healthcare, patients still need emotional support and human connection, especially during times of illness or uncertainty. Working as a patient care technician in the ICU has shown me how important the human touch is in patient care. Many patients in critical care feel vulnerable, frightened, or overwhelmed. In these moments, simple acts such as speaking kindly, listening attentively, or offering reassurance can make a significant difference. Even when patients cannot speak or fully communicate, showing patience and respect reminds them that they are not alone. Human touch also means recognizing that every patient has a unique story and deserves to be treated with dignity. Nurses and healthcare providers are often the people patients rely on for comfort and understanding. Taking the time to explain procedures, answer questions, or simply sit with a patient can help ease anxiety and build trust. From my experience in healthcare, I have learned that healing is not only physical but emotional as well. When patients feel cared for and supported, they are more likely to feel hopeful and engaged in their recovery. Compassionate interactions can help create a positive environment that supports both the patient and their family. As I continue my journey toward becoming a nurse, I hope to always remember the importance of the human touch. Technical skills and medical knowledge are vital, but compassion and empathy are what truly define exceptional patient care. By treating each patient with kindness and understanding, I hope to provide care that not only improves health outcomes but also brings comfort and reassurance during difficult times.
    Pangeta & Ivory Nursing Scholarship
I chose to pursue a career in nursing because I have always felt a strong calling to help others during some of the most difficult moments in their lives. For me, nursing is more than just a profession. It is a way to serve people with compassion, patience, and respect. I want to be someone who makes a difference when patients are scared, sick, or unsure about what is happening to them. My interest in nursing grew as I learned more about the important role nurses play in healthcare. Nurses are often the ones who spend the most time with patients. They listen to their concerns, provide comfort, and help explain medical information in a way patients can understand. Seeing how much of an impact nurses have on people’s lives inspired me to follow the same path. Another reason I decided to pursue nursing is my desire to make a positive impact in my community. Many communities, including my own, face health challenges such as limited access to care, chronic illnesses, and a lack of health education. I want to be a nurse who helps bridge that gap by providing care and education to people who may not always receive the support they need. I believe that nurses play an important role not only in treating illness but also in helping people live healthier lives. My faith has also influenced my decision to pursue nursing. I believe that serving others is one of the greatest purposes a person can have. Nursing allows me to live out that belief by showing kindness, compassion, and understanding to people during vulnerable moments in their lives. Even small acts of care can bring comfort and hope to someone who is struggling. As a nursing student, I work hard to maintain strong academic performance because I understand the responsibility that comes with this profession. Achieving a GPA above 3.5 requires dedication, discipline, and a commitment to learning. I know that the knowledge and skills I gain through my education will prepare me to provide safe and effective care to my future patients. Receiving this scholarship would support me as I continue my journey in nursing and allow me to focus even more on my education and training. It would also serve as encouragement to keep pursuing my goals and serving others through healthcare. In the future, I hope to continue growing as a nurse and make a lasting impact on the patients and communities I serve. I want to be known as a nurse who treats every patient with dignity, respect, and compassion. I also hope to inspire others, especially students in my community, to pursue careers where they can make a meaningful difference. Choosing nursing was not just about selecting a career. It was about choosing a path of service, leadership, and compassion. Through my education and future work as a nurse, I hope to honor that calling by improving the lives of the people I care for and by continuing to serve my community with dedication and heart.

Communication for me is one of the most powerful tools a person can have, but there was a time when I struggled to use my voice. Growing up, I sometimes felt unsure about speaking up, especially in situations where I did not feel confident or where I worried about being judged. Because of this, I often stayed quiet even when I had something important to say. Over time, I realized that staying silent can sometimes prevent positive change from happening. One moment that truly shaped me happened during my journey in healthcare while I was working and studying to become a nurse. In healthcare, communication is extremely important because patients depend on medical staff to listen carefully and explain things clearly. At first, I sometimes felt nervous speaking up, especially when I was around people with more experience than me. I questioned whether my voice mattered or if I knew enough to say something helpful. One day I noticed a patient who seemed very anxious and uncomfortable. They looked confused about what was happening and appeared overwhelmed by the situation. For a moment, I hesitated. I wondered if it was my place to step in or if someone else would handle it. But I realized that sometimes people simply need someone to talk to and listen to them. I decided to approach the patient and speak with them calmly. I asked if they were okay and gave them the opportunity to share how they were feeling. I explained what I could in a simple way and reassured them that they were not alone. As we talked, I could see their body language begin to relax. They started asking questions and seemed more at ease. That moment showed me how powerful communication can be. That experience helped me understand that using your voice is not always about being the loudest person in the room. Sometimes it is simply about choosing to speak when it matters. It is about listening, caring, and helping others feel understood. Even small conversations can make a big difference in someone’s life. As an African American student, I also recognize that many voices in our communities have historically been overlooked or unheard. Because of this, I believe it is important to develop the confidence to speak up, advocate for others, and help create positive change. Everyone deserves to feel heard and respected. My faith has also helped me grow in confidence. I believe that God gives each person a purpose and unique gifts. Learning to trust that purpose has helped me understand that my voice has value and that I can use it to serve others. Through my nursing education, I plan to continue developing strong communication skills so that I can advocate for my patients and my community. Nurses play an important role in making sure patients understand their health and feel supported during difficult times. In the future, I hope to use my voice to encourage others to believe in themselves and to speak up when something matters. Communication has the power to bring comfort, build trust, and create change. By using my voice with compassion and confidence, I hope to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Throughout my life, I have always believed that helping others is one of the most important things a person can do. Even in small ways, I try to make a positive impact on the people around me and in my community. Whether it is through my work, my education, or simply supporting others, I believe every action can create change. One of the ways I have been able to impact my community is by working in healthcare. Being in a healthcare environment has allowed me to see how important compassion and support are for patients and their families. Many people who come into the hospital are going through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They may feel scared, confused, or overwhelmed. By showing kindness, patience, and respect, I have been able to help patients feel more comfortable and cared for. Even simple actions can make a big difference. Taking the time to listen to someone, helping them feel safe, or supporting them during a stressful moment can bring comfort and hope. I have seen how these small moments of care can change a patient’s experience in the hospital. It reminds me that healthcare is not only about treating illness but also about caring for people as human beings. I have also tried to make an impact by encouraging others around me. Sometimes people just need someone to believe in them. I try to support my peers and remind them that they are capable of achieving their goals. Creating a positive and encouraging environment helps people feel motivated and confident in themselves. Another way I hope to impact my community is through education. As I continue my nursing education, I am learning knowledge and skills that will allow me to help people live healthier lives. Many health problems can be improved or prevented when people have the right information and support. I want to help educate patients about their health so they can make better choices and take care of themselves. In many communities, including my own, there are health challenges that affect families every day. Some people struggle with chronic illnesses, limited access to healthcare, or a lack of health education. By becoming a nurse, I will be able to serve people who need care and support the most. My degree will allow me to make a greater impact by giving me the training needed to provide safe and effective care. Nurses play a major role in advocating for patients and making sure their voices are heard. I want to be a nurse who not only provides treatment but also helps patients feel respected and valued. My faith also guides the way I approach helping others. I believe that serving people with love, compassion, and humility is important. Every person deserves dignity and care, especially during times when they are vulnerable. In the future, I hope to continue growing in my career and use my education to bring positive change to my community. I want to be someone who helps others feel supported, cared for, and encouraged. Through healthcare, education, and compassion, I believe I can continue making a meaningful impact on the world around me.

My name is Bryan, and I am currently studying nursing because I want to make a positive difference in the lives of others. I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools a person can have. Through my studies, I am learning how to care for people who are sick, hurting, or in need of support. My goal is to use my education and career to help people in my community live healthier and better lives. Growing up, I learned that helping others is very important. In many communities, including my own, people face challenges such as limited access to healthcare, high stress, and health problems that could be prevented with the right support. Seeing these struggles has motivated me to pursue a career in healthcare so that I can be part of the solution. Nursing is more than just a job to me. It is a way to serve others with compassion and respect. Nurses are often the people who spend the most time with patients. They listen to patients’ concerns, explain treatments, and help them feel safe during difficult moments. I want to be the kind of nurse who truly cares about every person I help. I want my patients to feel heard, respected, and valued. Through my education, I am learning important medical knowledge and critical thinking skills. These skills will help me make good decisions when caring for patients. Healthcare can be complex, but education prepares nurses to respond to different situations with confidence and care. I believe that the more knowledge I gain, the more people I will be able to help. I also want to use my career to support communities that sometimes face health inequalities. Many people do not always receive the healthcare they need because of financial barriers, lack of information, or limited resources. I want to be someone who helps bridge that gap by providing care and education to people who may not always have access to it. My faith is also a big part of my journey. I believe that God calls us to love and care for one another. Serving others through healthcare is one way I can live out that belief. Showing kindness, patience, and compassion to patients can bring comfort during very hard moments in their lives. In the future, I hope to continue growing in my career and maybe even mentor others who want to enter the healthcare field. I want to encourage young people in my community to believe in themselves and pursue their goals. Sometimes people just need someone to show them that their dreams are possible. Education is opening doors for me, but it is also giving me the chance to help others. Through nursing, faith, and service, I hope to make a positive impact on the world and bring hope, care, and healing to the people around me.

I believe creating a legacy means leaving something behind that helps others and inspires people even after you are gone. In the future, I hope my legacy will be built through both my career in healthcare and the businesses and talents God has given me. I want my life to show that hard work, faith, and service can create opportunities not only for myself but also for others. Right now, while I am in nursing school, I am working toward becoming a nurse and continuing my growth in healthcare. My goal is to become an ICU nurse so that I can care for patients during some of the most critical moments of their lives. Working in the hospital has shown me how important compassion, patience, and skill are when helping people who are vulnerable. Through nursing, I hope to leave a legacy of care by supporting patients and their families when they need help the most. At the same time, I am also building another passion of mine, which is photography. While I continue my education, I am working to grow my photography business. Photography allows me to capture important moments in people’s lives, such as graduations, celebrations, and milestones. These moments are meaningful to families, and being able to preserve them is something I truly enjoy. In the future, I hope my photography business continues to grow and becomes something bigger than just a small side project. I would like it to become a successful business that allows me to serve my community while also creating opportunities for others. One day, I would love to mentor young people who are interested in photography or creative work, especially those who may not have many resources or guidance. Teaching others how to use their creativity could help them build confidence and discover new opportunities for themselves. I also believe that shining your light means using the gifts you have to uplift others. For me, that means serving people through healthcare, encouraging others through my faith, and creating meaningful experiences through my photography. Whether I am helping a patient in the hospital, supporting someone during a difficult moment, or capturing a special memory through my camera, I want people to feel valued and supported. Ultimately, my goal is to build a life that reflects kindness, service, and perseverance. By continuing my education, growing my photography business, and helping others along the way, I hope to create a legacy that positively impacts my community and inspires others to pursue their own dreams.

One goal I have worked very hard to reach is becoming a nursing student while working in the hospital as an ICU patient care technician. This goal did not come easily, but it is something I have been determined to achieve because I want to dedicate my life to helping others during their most difficult moments. Growing up, I watched my mother work extremely hard as a single parent to provide for me. She made many sacrifices just to make sure I had food on the table and the opportunity to pursue my education. Watching her strength and perseverance planted a seed in my life. It taught me that success does not come without hard work, faith, and determination. Because of her example, I learned that when you set a goal, you must stay committed even when the path becomes difficult. When I decided that I wanted to become a nurse, I knew it would require a lot of discipline and sacrifice. Nursing school is demanding, and balancing school with work in the hospital has been challenging at times. I currently work in the Intensive Care Unit as a patient care technician, where I help care for critically ill patients. In the ICU, I see people during some of the hardest moments of their lives. Many patients are fighting serious illnesses or recovering from trauma, and their families often feel scared and uncertain. Working in this environment has strengthened my determination to continue pursuing my goal. Every shift reminds me why I chose this path. I see nurses providing comfort to patients, supporting families, and making life-saving decisions. Watching them work has inspired me to continue learning and growing so that one day I can serve others in the same way. Reaching this point in my journey required perseverance. There were moments when balancing school, work, and personal responsibilities felt overwhelming. However, I stayed focused on my goal and reminded myself why I started. My faith has also played an important role in helping me stay encouraged during difficult moments. I believe that God places people on certain paths so they can make a difference in the lives of others. Now that I have reached the goal of being in nursing school and working in healthcare, I am focused on what comes next. My next goal is to graduate from nursing school and become an ICU nurse. I want to continue serving patients during their most vulnerable moments and provide compassionate care to families who need hope and support. In the future, I also hope to mentor other students who are interested in healthcare careers. Many young people simply need encouragement and guidance to believe that their dreams are possible. Just as my mother planted seeds of perseverance in my life, I want to plant seeds of hope and opportunity in the lives of others. This journey has taught me that meaningful change often begins with small actions, hard work, and a willingness to serve. By continuing to pursue my goals and help others along the way, I hope to make a lasting impact in my community and beyond.

One meaningful way I have served others in my community is through my work in the hospital as an ICU patient care technician while also being a nursing student. This experience has allowed me to help people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. It has shown me what true service looks like and has helped shape my understanding of leadership, compassion, and faith. Working in the Intensive Care Unit is not easy. Many of the patients who come to the ICU are very sick or have experienced serious trauma. Some are fighting for their lives, and their families are often afraid and unsure of what will happen next. As a patient care technician, my role is to support both the nurses and the patients. I help with patient care, assist with daily needs, and try to make patients feel as comfortable as possible during a very hard time. What inspired me to serve in this way is my desire to help people when they feel vulnerable and alone. I believe that even small acts of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s life. Something as simple as speaking kindly to a patient, helping them feel safe, or comforting a worried family member can mean more than we realize. Being present for people during these moments has helped me understand that service is not only about doing a task, but about showing compassion and empathy. One challenge I have faced in this work is learning how to stay strong while seeing difficult situations. In the ICU, I witness trauma, pain, and sometimes loss. At times it can be emotionally heavy. However, these experiences have helped me grow stronger and more focused on my purpose. Instead of becoming discouraged, it motivates me to learn more so that I can one day provide even greater care as a nurse. Another source of inspiration in my life has been my mother. She is a single mother who worked extremely hard to provide for me. Watching her make sacrifices and continue pushing forward taught me what true strength looks like. Her example has helped shape the way I see service and leadership. Leadership is not always about being in charge; sometimes it means quietly working hard, caring for others, and showing up for people when they need help the most. Faith has also played an important role in shaping my understanding of service. I believe that caring for others is a way to reflect God’s love in the world. When patients are scared or families feel overwhelmed, showing kindness, patience, and compassion can bring them a sense of peace. Through my experiences in the hospital, I have learned that serving others with humility and care is one of the most meaningful things a person can do. These experiences have strengthened my goal of becoming an ICU nurse. I want to continue serving people during their most vulnerable moments and provide support not only to patients but also to their families. Working in healthcare has taught me that service is not always about big actions; sometimes it is about being present, listening, and offering hope. My journey is still continuing, but the lessons I have learned through serving others have shaped who I am today. They have taught me the value of compassion, resilience, leadership, and faith.

What inspired me to pursue a career in nursing comes from both my personal life and my experience working in the Intensive Care Unit as a patient care technician. Being in the ICU every day has helped me see what real care and dedication look like. I see patients during some of the hardest moments of their lives, and I watch how nurses step in to help them, support them, and fight for their recovery. Seeing this has inspired me deeply and helped me realize that becoming a nurse is the path I want to follow. Working in the ICU has opened my eyes to how serious healthcare can be. Many of the patients I see are very sick or have gone through serious trauma. Their families often come into the hospital feeling scared and worried about their loved ones. In those moments, nurses become a source of strength and comfort for them. They stay calm even when things are stressful. They speak kindly to families, care for their patients carefully, and do everything they can to help people heal. Watching this every day has shown me how powerful the role of a nurse really is. Another person who has greatly inspired me is my mother. She is a single mother who worked very hard to provide for me while I was growing up. There were many times when she had to make sacrifices just to make sure I had food to eat and the support I needed. Seeing how hard she worked taught me the value of perseverance and caring for others. Her strength motivates me to keep pushing forward and work hard in my education. Because of my mother and my experience in the ICU, I have developed a strong desire to help people. I know what it feels like when someone supports you and believes in you. One day, I want to be able to give that same support to others who may be going through difficult times in their lives. Being in nursing school while working in the ICU has also helped me grow in my learning. Many of the things I study in class start to make more sense when I see them happen in the hospital. I watch the nurses carefully, ask questions, and try to learn as much as I can. Every shift teaches me something new and encourages me to keep improving. My goal is to become an ICU nurse. The ICU can be a very emotional and challenging place, but it has made me stronger and more determined to continue learning. I want to be a nurse who helps patients during their most vulnerable moments and supports families when they need comfort and hope. Nursing is more than a career for me it is a way to serve others and make a difference in the world.

Pursuing my nursing degree means more to me than just earning a career. It represents an opportunity to serve others, uplift my community, and fulfill a purpose that I believe God has placed in my life. I want to be chosen for this scholarship because it will help me continue my education while also allowing me to focus on becoming the kind of nurse who truly makes a difference in people’s lives. My journey toward nursing has not always been easy. Like many students, I face financial responsibilities while trying to complete my education. Tuition, books, transportation, and daily living expenses add up quickly. At the same time, nursing school requires a significant amount of time, dedication, and focus. This scholarship would help relieve some of that financial pressure so that I can stay committed to my studies and continue working toward graduation. Instead of constantly worrying about how to cover expenses, I would be able to focus more fully on my training and preparation to serve patients with excellence. Beyond financial assistance, receiving this scholarship would also be a reminder that others believe in my potential and in the impact I hope to make. I come from a community where many people face barriers to quality healthcare, education, and opportunity. In many African American communities, health disparities remain a serious issue, and many individuals lack access to the guidance and support they need to manage their health. As I pursue my nursing degree, I want to be part of the solution. My goal is to become a nurse who not only treats patients but also educates and empowers them. Many health problems can be improved or prevented through education, early care, and consistent support. I want to help people better understand their health, advocate for themselves, and make informed decisions that improve their quality of life. Sometimes what people need most is someone who listens, cares, and is willing to stand beside them during difficult moments. Faith is also an important part of my journey. I believe that God calls people into certain paths so they can be a blessing to others. Nursing allows me to combine compassion, service, and knowledge in a way that directly impacts lives. Every patient has a story, and I want to be a healthcare professional who treats each person with dignity, patience, and kindness. Once I am established in my career, I plan to continue giving back in multiple ways. I want to mentor younger students who are interested in healthcare careers and encourage them to pursue higher education. Many young people simply need someone to show them that success is possible and that their dreams matter. I also hope to support community health initiatives that promote awareness around chronic diseases, preventative care, and healthy lifestyles. Receiving this scholarship would not only help me complete my degree but also help me continue the work of serving others through healthcare. My goal is to use the knowledge and opportunities I gain to uplift my community and provide compassionate care to those who need it most. By investing in my education, this scholarship would ultimately help create a ripple effect of service, encouragement, and positive impact for many people in the future.

Education is very important to me because it gives me the opportunity to help others and make a difference in my community. As a nursing student, my goal is not only to earn a degree but to use my knowledge and skills to support and improve the health of my community, especially within the African American community that I am part of. I want to use my nursing degree to provide compassionate care, increase health education, and help people better understand how to take care of their health. My faith also plays an important role in my journey, guiding me to serve others with compassion, patience, and love. In my community, many people face serious health challenges such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. These conditions affect many African American families and often lead to long-term health problems when they are not managed properly. Sometimes people do not have access to clear health information, or they may not fully understand how to prevent or manage these conditions. As a nurse, I want to help change that by educating patients and helping them understand how their daily choices affect their health. One of the most important ways I plan to help my community is through health education. Many illnesses can be prevented when people have the right knowledge. I want to teach patients about healthy eating, staying active, and taking medications the right way. I also want to help people understand how to monitor conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure so they can take control of their health before problems become worse. When people understand their health, they are better able to care for themselves and their families. Another important way I want to serve my community is by building trust between patients and healthcare providers. In some cases, people in my community may feel unsure or uncomfortable when seeking medical care. Some may feel that their concerns are not always listened to or taken seriously. As a nurse, I want to be someone who listens carefully, treats patients with respect, and makes them feel valued. My faith teaches me to treat every person with dignity and kindness, and I want my patients to feel that they are truly cared for. I also hope to inspire younger members of my community to pursue education and healthcare careers. Representation matters, and when young people see someone from their own community working in healthcare, it can encourage them to believe that they can achieve the same goals. I want to show others that with hard work, determination, and faith, it is possible to overcome challenges and pursue a career that helps others. In addition, I hope to participate in community outreach programs that bring healthcare education directly to my community. This could include health fairs, blood pressure screenings, and workshops that teach people how to manage chronic illnesses. These programs can help people learn about their health in a comfortable environment and encourage them to seek care when they need it. Receiving this scholarship would help me continue my education and stay focused on my goal of serving my community. My faith reminds me that serving others is part of my purpose. With my nursing degree, I will be able to provide care, education, and encouragement to the people around me. My goal is to help build a healthier and stronger community by supporting individuals and families through compassionate healthcare, education, and faith-centered service. Thank you.

Mental health has shaped how I see people, how I build relationships, and why I chose nursing as my career. I have learned that emotional pain is often hidden. A person can smile, go to work, and talk normally, but still feel overwhelmed inside. Knowing this changed the way I treat others. I try to be more patient, more careful with my words, and more aware of how someone might really be feeling. I have gone through stressful and emotional seasons in my own life, and I have also supported people close to me through their struggles. During those times, what helped most was not advice or quick solutions. It was having someone who listened and stayed present. Being heard made me feel less alone and more understood. It gave me strength to keep going. Those moments showed me that simple kindness, time, and patience can make a real difference in someone’s life. Because of these experiences, I try not to judge people too quickly. I remind myself that everyone is fighting a battle I may not see. When someone seems distant, upset, or short-tempered, I try to respond with calm instead of anger. I listen first and speak with respect. This has helped my friendships and work relationships grow stronger. People are more open when they feel safe. I try to be someone others can trust and talk to without fear of being judged or ignored. Mental health has also shaped what I believe about strength. I used to think being strong meant handling problems alone. Now I believe true strength means being honest about your struggles and asking for help when you need it. Support from others, faith, and professional care can all play an important role in healing. No one should have to suffer in silence. These lessons are a big reason I chose nursing. I want to care for people during their hardest moments. When people are sick or in the hospital, they are often scared and stressed, not just in pain. I have seen that good nurses do more than give medicine and check vital signs. They bring peace into the room. They explain things clearly, answer questions, and treat patients with dignity. Even small actions  like a calm voice, eye contact, and a few extra minutes of listening  can lower fear and build trust. My goal is to care for the whole person, not just the illness. The mind and body are connected. When patients feel understood and respected, they are more willing to take part in their care and recovery. I want every patient I meet to feel valued, supported, and never alone. Mental health experiences have given me empathy, purpose, and direction. They helped shape my character and my future goals. Receiving this scholarship would help me continue my education and become a nurse who cares for both the emotional and physical needs of every patient I serve.

My name is Bryan, and I was raised by a strong and devoted single mother in Texas. Growing up, I witnessed her working several shifts and multiple jobs just to make a way for me. No matter how exhausted she was, she never stopped pushing forward. What inspired me most was not just her hard work, but her unwavering faith in the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. She believed deeply that her help came from above, and that faith carried her through the hardest days. She made countless sacrifices so I could have opportunities she never had, and she taught me that with God’s guidance and persistence, anything is possible. Watching my mother balance the demands of work, home, and her relationship with God shaped who I am today. Even after long, exhausting days, she found time to pray and trust that her labor was not in vain. Her example of strength and faith showed me what true courage looks like. Because of her, I learned the value of perseverance, hope, and belief in a better future. She was my first teacher, not only in how to work hard, but in how to lean on God through every challenge. Coming from a single-parent household meant that I had to grow up quickly. I took on responsibilities around the house and learned how to support my family emotionally and practically. Even with the struggles, my mother made sure I never doubted my worth or my potential. She instilled in me the belief that I could rise above any obstacle and build a life that honors her sacrifice and the grace she trusted in. I am currently pursuing a nursing degree while working as a patient care technician. I have seen firsthand how nurses bring not just medical care, but also compassion and hope to people in their most vulnerable moments. I want to be that nurse, someone who cares deeply, listens patiently, and advocates fiercely for patients, especially those from underserved communities. I want to bring healing not only through medicine but through kindness and respect. This scholarship would be a tremendous blessing for me. It would lighten the financial burden of my education and allow me to focus more on my studies and service. More importantly, winning this scholarship would be a way to say thank you to my mother. It would honor her years of sacrifice, her hard work, and her faith. Every step I take in my education is a reflection of her love and belief in me. My goal is to use my nursing degree to make a positive impact on the world by serving communities that need it most. I also plan to mentor young people who come from backgrounds like mine, helping them understand that with hard work, faith, and support, they can achieve their dreams. Through my journey, I want to show others that they are not alone and that their struggles do not define their future. This scholarship would not only support my academic success but also serve as a tribute to the woman who made all of this possible. I am committed to making her proud and to paying forward the blessings and opportunities she fought so hard to provide.
    Jase Davidsaver RN Memorial Scholarship
My name is Bryan, and nursing is more than a profession to me it’s a purpose. I am currently an undergraduate student pursuing a career as a registered nurse because I believe healing is both a science and an act of service. As a male in a field often dominated by women, I understand the importance of representation and the need to break stereotypes while bringing compassion, skill, and strength into every patient interaction. Working as a patient care technician has already shown me the highs and lows of healthcare. I have helped people through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, and those experiences have taught me that nursing requires more than medical knowledge. It demands patience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to offer comfort when words fall short. These are the qualities I am committed to carrying with me into my future as an RN. I plan to positively impact the nursing profession in three ways: through direct patient care, advocacy for mental and emotional wellness, and mentoring other men entering the field. First and foremost, I want to be the kind of nurse who brings not just clinical excellence, but also deep compassion to every room I walk into. Whether I am caring for a patient recovering from surgery or sitting with someone facing a hard diagnosis, I want them to feel seen, heard, and respected. Second, I want to help reduce the stigma around mental health in both patients and healthcare workers. The emotional toll of working in nursing can be heavy, and I believe it is vital that nurses are supported in their own mental health. I hope to eventually become a nurse educator or leader who encourages honest conversations around burnout, trauma, and self-care, especially for male nurses who may feel pressure to stay silent. Lastly, I plan to give back by mentoring other young men who want to enter the nursing field. Representation matters, and I want others to know that men have a place in nursing not just as professionals, but as empathetic caregivers and community leaders. I want to help shift the culture of nursing to be more inclusive, balanced, and enriched by the diverse perspectives we bring. This scholarship would help relieve the financial burden of my education, allowing me to focus more fully on my studies, clinicals, and service. More importantly, it would honor the legacy of a fellow male nurse who gave his life to helping others something I strive to do every day of my career.
Larry Joe Gardner Memorial Scholarship for Public Policy
My name is Bryan, and I am an African American male undergraduate student pursuing a degree that will allow me to merge my passion for healthcare, public service, and social justice. I currently work as a patient care technician, a role that has deepened my desire to serve others and equipped me with firsthand insight into the inequalities that exist in our healthcare system and society at large. Alongside my work, I remain actively involved in volunteer and nonprofit service through church based outreach and local community programs. These experiences continue to shape the vision I have for the impact I want to make through both my education and my future career. I have always believed that real change starts with service. I come from a community where many people face barriers not because they lack intelligence or drive, but because they lack access and opportunity. I have seen friends and neighbors struggle to find affordable healthcare, access to mental health services, and guidance when navigating difficult life situations. These experiences drive me to be someone who not only succeeds for myself but opens doors for others. Through my studies and future work, I plan to address important social issues in three specific ways:community education, and policy reform. First, I plan to advocate for equitable access to healthcare and resources for underserved populations. As someone pursuing a career in nursing and public health, I understand how disparities in healthcare contribute to generational cycles of illness and poverty. I want to be a voice for people who are often overlooked, particularly those affected by racial and economic inequality. Whether I am working in a hospital, a school, or within the public health system, I want to speak up for patients and push for policies that prioritize compassionate, affordable, and culturally competent care. Second, I plan to create and participate in community education programs focused on preventative health, mental wellness, and social justice awareness. I believe that when people are informed, they are empowered. I want to help bridge the gap between knowledge and access by organizing workshops in schools, churches, and local organizations that equip individuals with the tools they need to take control of their health and well-being. I have already begun this work by volunteering in community events, offering guidance to peers, and participating in faith-based mentorship, but I know there is so much more I can do with the right education and support. Third, I plan to be involved in policy work that influences the future of healthcare and justice systems. Whether through legislation, grassroots advocacy, or nonprofit collaboration, I want to help create structural change that brings about lasting impact. This includes advocating for mental health funding, better protections for vulnerable populations, and stronger accountability for systems that fail the people they are meant to serve. I hope to combine my lived experience, healthcare training, and leadership skills to be a force for justice and reform. Currently,I am already working to impact social issues by showing up for my community in small but consistent ways. From helping underserved patients as a healthcare worker to mentoring young people in my church and community, I am committed to doing what I can with what I have. But with the support of this scholarship, I would be able to do so much more. Education is a powerful force in breaking cycles of silence and suffering, especially when it comes to intimate partner violence (IPV). While I have not personally experienced IPV, I have witnessed how it can affect others mentally, emotionally, and physically. I’ve seen how it can strip someone of their confidence, isolate them from their support system, and cause them to question their worth. But I’ve also seen how education, whether formal or informal, can plant the seeds of freedom, healing, and empowerment. That’s why I believe in the power of education not only to change lives, but to save them. My passion for healthcare and people led me to pursue a nursing degree. Through my work as a patient care technician, I’ve cared for patients in vulnerable situations. In these roles, I’ve learned that sometimes the things patients don’t say matter just as much as the symptoms they do report. I’ve come to understand how critical it is for healthcare professionals to be trained not only in procedures, but in empathy, observation, and active listening. I want to use my education to be the kind of nurse who sees the whole person, not just their physical needs, but their emotional and psychological ones too. In my experience, IPV often hides in plain sight. Survivors don’t always speak up, either because of fear or because they don’t recognize what’s happening to them as abuse. That’s where education comes in. When people are educated about what healthy relationships look like, about their rights, and about available resources, they are more likely to recognize harmful behavior and reach out for help. As I continue in my nursing education, I want to be equipped to recognize the signs of IPV and respond with compassion and clarity. I want to help patients feel safe and supported, whether they are ready to share their full story or not. Outside of school and work, I’ve also been involved in community volunteer work, from food drives to youth mentorship and church outreach. I’ve had meaningful conversations with individuals, especially young people, about relationships, identity, and boundaries. These experiences have made it clear to me that prevention and support must go hand in hand. We can’t wait until someone is already in crisis to step in. We must be proactive in creating awareness and building safe, informed communities. One of my long-term goals is to offer health education workshops in schools, shelters, and churches, spaces where people gather, seek guidance, and often feel safe. These workshops would focus on relationship health, mental wellness, and where to go for help when needed. Through both my degree and my life experiences, I believe I can create spaces where people feel seen, heard, and encouraged to reclaim their voice. This scholarship would help ease the financial burden of nursing school and allow me to dedicate more time to both my studies and my community involvement. More than that, it would serve as a reminder that the work I want to do, advocating for others, especially those who feel voiceless, matters. I may not be a survivor of IPV, but I am committed to being part of the solution. Through my education, my career, and my heart for people, I will work to bring light where there’s been darkness and hope where there’s been hurt. My goal is simple: to be someone who helps others feel safe, strong, and never alone.

My name is Bryan, and my journey to where I am today began when I moved to the United States from Nigeria at the age of 13. I came with hope, believing life here would be filled with opportunity. But what I wasn’t prepared for was the loneliness. I didn’t sound like everyone else. I dressed differently. My accent became a reason for others to laugh, and I was often left out, picked on, or called names. I remember sitting in the cafeteria wondering what I had done wrong. I was just a kid trying to belong, trying to adjust to a new world. That experience stayed with me. It taught me what it feels like to be unseen, unheard, and misunderstood. At such a young age, I carried pain I didn’t know how to explain. But I also carried a decision. I told myself that if I ever had the chance to make someone feel safe, I would. If I could help someone feel like they mattered, I wouldn’t hesitate. That promise to myself is one of the reasons I chose to become a nurse. Today, I am a student in the Dallas-Fort Worth area majoring in Nursing. I work in the hospital as a patient care tech, and every shift is a reminder of why I chose this path. I have seen fear in patients’ eyes, especially those who feel alone, and I remember that 13-year-old version of myself who once felt the same way. I speak gently. I listen. I bring comfort. It’s not just about the physical care. It’s about making people feel like they are not invisible. It’s about making sure they know they are safe and valued. In high school, I got involved in the arts and community service. Creating music and volunteering gave me an outlet and a way to connect with others. It helped me grow more confident and taught me the power of serving with a sincere heart. Now, I lead Bible studies focused on healing, and I continue to serve wherever I can. My dream is to become a nurse who shows up not only with skill but with compassion. I want to serve in critical care and also give back to my community by supporting youth who feel like they don’t belong. I want to be a reminder that where you start doesn’t have to determine where you finish. This scholarship would help me continue this journey without the weight of debt holding me back. It would support a dream that was born from pain but shaped into purpose. I want to graduate and become a light for others the way I wish someone had been for me.

I chose this educational goal because I have always felt a deep calling to serve and care for others. Nursing is more than just a career path to me; it is a purpose that fills my heart. Working in healthcare, especially in the ICU, has shown me the fragility of life and the power of compassion. I have stood beside patients during their most vulnerable moments, witnessing pain, fear, and hope all at once. I have held hands, offered silent prayers, and seen families go through unimaginable heartbreak. These experiences moved me deeply and helped me realize that I want to be the person who brings comfort and healing when it matters most. I am currently attending a university where my major is Nursing. My goal is to become a registered nurse, focusing on critical care or mental health, where patients are often facing life-changing challenges. I want to be the steady presence for people who feel lost or overwhelmed. In the long run, I hope to use my education to serve underserved communities and eventually become a nurse educator or open a community health program. My dream is to provide care that addresses not just physical health, but mental and emotional well-being as well, while offering hope rooted in faith. Living with a disability has made my educational journey more challenging but also more meaningful. There were many times when my body and mind did not cooperate. I struggled with fatigue, pain, and moments of doubt. Sometimes I felt invisible or misunderstood, and I worried about falling behind. It was hard to ask for accommodations because I did not want to be seen as weak or different. However, through these struggles, I learned resilience. I learned how to advocate for myself and find ways to keep moving forward. My disability has not defined me or limited me; instead, it has given me a deeper understanding of patience, compassion, and strength. These are the qualities I will carry with me as a nurse. To me, independence means freedom and dignity. It means having the ability to care for myself, make decisions about my life, and live with purpose. Independence is not about doing everything alone, but about having the tools and confidence to support myself and contribute to my community. It is about being able to manage my needs while still being there for others. For me, independence means stability and strength a life where I am not held back by circumstances but empowered by what I have worked to achieve. This education is the foundation I am building to live that life. It equips me with the knowledge, skills, and confidence I need to support myself and thrive. Every class, every clinical shift, and every challenge I overcome brings me closer to the nurse I want to be. This journey is about more than earning a degree; it is about stepping fully into my purpose. It is about turning my experiences, struggles, and faith into something that will heal and inspire others. I am committed to this path because I know that through it, I will not only live independently but also help others find hope and healing along the way.

One of the most life-changing times I had to prioritize my mental, emotional, and physical health was during the period when I was working in the ICU and lost a relative who was very close to me. That season shook me deeply. I was constantly surrounded by the reality of life and death at work, and then to experience loss personally made it hit even harder. I was working 12-hour shifts as a patient care tech, witnessing patients fight for their lives while trying to hold myself together through grief, school transfers, and financial pressure. I didn’t have time to properly process anything, and for a while, I just kept going on autopilot. Eventually, the weight became too much. I wasn’t sleeping well, my emotions were all over the place, and I felt disconnected from myself. One day, I broke down in the break room between patient rounds. That moment forced me to realize that I needed to be more than just strong. I needed to be whole. That’s when I started intentionally prioritizing my mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Spiritually and emotionally, I leaned into my faith. I began journaling, praying more deeply, and leading Bible studies with my close friends. I found comfort in being honest with God and creating space to feel. My faith reminded me that I didn’t have to carry everything by myself. Losing my loved one taught me the importance of being present with the people I love, and it taught me that healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means learning how to carry both joy and sorrow together. Physically, I began taking better care of myself. I paid more attention to my health by drinking water, taking my vitamins, and using hair and skin routines that helped me feel clean and confident. I also started walking more, using peaceful lighting in my room, and playing worship music to ease my anxiety. These small changes grounded me. I realized that creating peace in my environment helped create peace in my mind. I also learned how to speak up for myself. I followed up on school paperwork, asked my managers for clarity when needed, and let people know when I wasn’t okay. That took courage I didn’t know I had, but it helped me grow and become more self-aware. Now, as I prepare for nursing school, I carry these lessons with me. I know that taking care of myself is essential if I want to care for others. What I went through in the ICU, and in my personal life, reminded me that healing is a daily choice. Prioritizing my mental, emotional, and physical health changed the way I live, and it’s the foundation I stand on as I step into my future.

My name is Bryan Ike, and I’m a nursing student with a background in Human Sciences. From a young age, I’ve always had a heart for helping people and a deep curiosity about how the body and mind work. That’s what led me down the path of healthcare, but it was the real-life moments of seeing loved ones in the hospital and witnessing the nurses' compassion that confirmed nursing was the right path for me. What draws me to nursing is the balance of science, service, and humanity. It’s a field where I can apply knowledge, think critically, and, most importantly, make a difference in people’s lives when they need it most. Nursing isn’t just a job to me. It’s a calling. I love that nurses are the ones who stay present, offer comfort, and advocate for their patients no matter what. I plan to specialize in critical care and eventually become a nurse anesthetist. I’m especially drawn to environments that require focus, fast thinking, and the ability to support people through some of the most serious health situations. I want to be part of a team that helps save lives while making patients feel safe and cared for. I strive for that blend of technical skill and compassion. I’ve been preparing for this journey both academically and through hands-on experience. I earned a degree in Human Sciences, which gave me a strong understanding of health from a behavioral and social perspective. I currently work as an ICU tech, where I’ve had the opportunity to assist with patient care, observe emergency procedures, and learn from experienced nurses on the floor. Every shift teaches me something new and confirms that this is the field I’m meant to be in. This journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it. Nursing challenges me to grow in every area intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. I’m excited to continue this path, serve others, and use everything I’ve learned to make a lasting impact. Although life's journey may take some time, all that matters is the hard work and the growth through the time taken. At the end of the day, once I walk that stage with my degree in hand, I know that I will say thank you, Jesus, because he only has brought me that far, and I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for his grace and him giving me scholarships like this to apply for to further my education. And I know that I would be a great nurse through all this.

The nursing industry interests me because it reflects everything I value: compassion, resilience, service, and the opportunity to make a real impact in people’s lives. Nursing is not just about treating illness. It’s about building trust, understanding the whole person, and being present in moments of both crisis and healing. It’s a career that requires both a strong mind and a soft heart, and I’ve always been drawn to professions where I can blend technical knowledge with empathy. I aim to become a registered nurse who provides excellent care and leads purposefully. I hope to specialize in critical care or nurse anesthesia, where I can work closely with patients in life-altering situations. In the long term, I want to become a nurse educator or leader who helps others entering the field, using my experience to guide and support the next generation of nurses. I’m committed to lifelong learning and personal growth, and I believe the nursing field constantly challenges you to become better for yourself and your patients. Several personal accomplishments have helped shape my pursuit of nursing. I earned a degree in Human Sciences, focusing on understanding people emotionally, behaviorally, and socially, which gave me a solid foundation in holistic care. I’m enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, where I’m building the clinical skills needed to complement that human-centered perspective. Being a nurse requires respect because, without respect, I cannot make my patients feel loved; as a nurse-to-be, I plan to respect my patients and ensure that all their needs are met comfortably while helping them get better. In terms of experience, I currently work as an ICU technician at a hospital. This role has been one of the most impactful opportunities of my life. Every shift, I assist nurses and doctors in caring for patients facing serious health challenges. I’ve helped reposition ventilated patients, monitored vitals, assisted with codes, and comforted families. It has deepened my understanding of the intensity and rewards of critical care and confirmed that I’m in the right field. I’ve also volunteered in community health outreach programs, where I helped with screenings and patient education. Both experiences have shaped my drive and affirmed my purpose. My personal health experiences have also contributed. I’ve seen family members face illness and receive care that was both technical and compassionate. Those moments showed me what it meant to be cared for with dignity, and they planted the seed for my passion for nursing.

I decided to pursue a career in nursing because I see it as a calling to serve others in some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. It’s more than a job. It’s a ministry of care, compassion, and presence. What drew me to nursing was the realization that I could combine my desire to help people with my passion for learning and personal growth. Every person we meet has a story, a need, or a wound that goes beyond just a diagnosis, and I want to be someone who sees the whole person, not just the symptoms. My inspiration began when I was much younger, watching how nurses interacted with my grandmother when she was sick. One nurse in particular stood out. She didn’t just do her rounds or rush through checklists. She smiled, spoke gently, asked about my grandmother’s family, and treated her like someone who mattered. That stayed with me. I remember thinking, “I want to be that kind of presence for someone else.” As I got older, I saw the same kind of care and excellence modeled by nurses. Whether during a hospital visit, a family emergency, or even a school health screening, the nurses always showed up—not just with skill but with heart. My understanding of people deepened as I entered college and majored in Human Sciences. I learned about the emotional, mental, and social aspects of health and how much those factors influence recovery and well-being. When I began my nursing program, everything clicked. I knew I was exactly where I was meant to be. My education, my experiences, my faith, and my desire to give back were all aligned with this path. Nursing challenges me, inspires me, and humbles me. It pushes me to grow in knowledge, patience, understanding, and grace. Looking ahead, I see myself not only as a future nurse but also as a leader, advocate, and lifelong learner. I want to make a difference in hospitals and communities, especially for those who feel overlooked. My nursing journey is personal, purposeful, and rooted in love. I found out about this scholarship through Bold.org. I believe this scholarship would greatly assist me through my education and as a nurse. While at work, I learn a lot of tangible information, and as a nurse, I would want to treat my patients with the ultimate care that is my priority, and I know that this scholarship would help me further that goal of being the best I can be

Everyone faces challenges, and I’ve certainly had my fair share, especially in my academic journey. One of the biggest hurdles I’ve encountered was during my preparation for the HESI exam. For someone like me, passionate about health sciences and determined to pursue a career in this field, this test was a crucial stepping stone. I worked hard, studied for months, and felt pretty confident going into the exam. But despite all my preparation, I ended up scoring a 74 on one section just one point shy of the recommended 75. That one point felt huge. I remember feeling frustrated and questioning everything. After all the effort I had put in, I came up short by just a single point. It was one of those moments where you start to doubt yourself, wondering if you’re really cut out for what you’re trying to achieve. But after that initial frustration wore off, I realized I had two choices: I could let that one point derail me, or I could figure out how to move forward. I chose the second option. Instead of dwelling on the fact that I didn’t pass that section, I took a hard look at what went wrong. I asked myself where I could improve and what I needed to do differently next time. I talked to mentors, sought out new study resources, and focused on the areas where I struggled. The experience taught me something important: setbacks are part of the process. You can’t let one bump in the road make you question everything. I realized that I wasn’t going to let this define me. I made a plan, stuck to it, and came back more prepared and more determined than before. And it wasn’t just about passing the exam; it was about learning how to handle failure and how to keep going when things don’t go as planned. That experience shaped how I approach challenges now, not just in school, but in life. I’ve learned that setbacks are temporary, and the only thing that matters is how you respond to them. This mindset has carried me through other tough moments, whether it’s balancing work and school or managing the stress that comes with being so focused on your goals. My advice to anyone going through something similar is simple: don’t let a setback stop you. It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t work out the way you expected, but you have to keep moving forward. Take a step back, figure out what went wrong, and make a plan for how you’re going to tackle it next time. Focus on the things you can control, like how you study, how you manage your time, or how you approach the situation. The rest will fall into place if you keep putting in the effort. I’ve learned that adversity isn’t the enemy it’s actually an opportunity. You grow the most when things don’t go your way because that’s when you’re forced to dig deep and push through. So when challenges come up, don’t be afraid to face them head-on. You’ll come out stronger on the other side. Looking back, I’m grateful for that experience with the HESI exam. It taught me resilience, patience, and how to turn frustration into fuel for progress. Now, as I continue my studies at WGU, I take that lesson with me. I know there will be more challenges ahead, but I’m ready for them. I’ve learned that no matter how tough things get, I have the determination to keep moving forward and reach my goals.

Hello, my name is Bryan Ike, I am studying to become a medical anesthesiologist. Since I was a little boy I’ve always been interested in the medical field, I’ve always wanted to learn what they do, how they do it, and things that motivate them. I do know the medical field is not easy but my mom always told me “As long as you set your mind to something and push on, you can do it”. although the road may be tough never look back. The reason I want to become an anesthesiologist is that I am so fascinated by the fact that we could help a patient that is going through so much pain feel less pain in just seconds by making them sleep. First off what is an online resource? The online resource is a Website or materials online that helps provide one with the important information he or she requires regarding the specific needs they are seeking to find, in this case, it is the exploration of careers needed to further one's goal. In our world today we have so many online resources that can aid and guide students through their specific area of study, and then Helps them understand the importance of the major they are pursuing. There Are so many online sites that one could go to whenever he or she needs help in understanding a subject or a career such as; Google, Safari, and so many others. Because of online resources, students can find easy classes or courses they need to take based on their major. For my goal of becoming an anesthesiologist, I had to go online to search for the classes I needed to take to help further my education. I went to Google and searched for the college I was applying for and the classes they offered for me to partake in their medical class. Low and behold most of the classes shown on the mandatory list, I have already taken them. With the help of Google and other online sites I figured out All the classes I needed to take and I also was heading in the right direction with the classes I’ve already taken. Online resources also aided me in understanding how many years of study I needed to take to further my goal of becoming a medical anesthesiologist. Without the help of online resources, as a student in the medical field, I would’ve been confused and possibly taking the wrong classes for my major. In conclusion, I found that with the help of online resources made available I can focus on that that is more important for me to further my education and my goal to become an anesthesiologist. Although the journey for me to become an anesthesiologist would not be an easy one, as long as I study hard, focus on that what is more important, and use online resources as an aid to assist me in my major I believe I would be fine. Online resources are indeed important for not all the students but for everyone wanting to find an answer for the specific needs. Thank you.

Anesthetics and pain relievers It appears incredible that you can relieve a headache with medication, cut it off during surgery, or even remove a limb without using your thoughts. The idea that there are drugs that may relieve discomforts, such as headaches, fevers, fatigues, and other illnesses, still fascinates me to this day. Another surprising revelation is that there is an injection that may be administered by an anesthesiologist that is proved to make the patient numb before surgery. In the future, I hope to become an anesthesiologist so that I may determine the treatments required prior to surgery while also helping my patients feel better and pain-free. Electricity is also one of my favorites discoveries, this is because with electricity the world we now know would be different. with electricity we have light, we can fill our gas tanks to go from point B to point B, also with electricity, we could do everything online due to the covid illness, with electricity we could today have electric cars and last but not least we could be at home and know what happens in other parts of the world from one or multiple screens. With the help of science and those who work hard to discover new things in the world, we as humans have made numerous discoveries.
    Bold Generosity Matters Scholarship
the act of generosity means being kind to another individual whether you know them or not. having respect for despite all odd can help show your generosity and kindness. In other words, Generosity is the act of good, of selflessness for others. While this measure is designed to improve others' well-being, generosity strangely enhances our well-being. Therefore, charity is a wonderful way to enhance your mind. Generosity means giving without expecting anything in return, as humans we give and expect to be giving back. One with a character of Generosity would give without any expectations in return. Generosity also means love, "love your neighbor as yourself" in the world we live in nowadays it is hard to see people doing good from the bottom of their hearts, instead you see them posting their so-called good deed on the media so that others will see. Generosity is done from the heart, not from the eyes. "Do good to others, that the same might be done to you" I love this quote because it states doing good without any expectations back from the other individual that you are helping. Finally in the altruistic hope that the life of others actually would be improved I feel that giving is an incentive to go farther and further.
