Bio

My life goals are centered on building a stable, meaningful future for my family while making a difference in the lives of others. I plan to earn my BSN degree and continue my education to become a nurse practitioner. I want a career that not only supports my children but also allows me to give back through compassionate, patient-centered care. In addition to healthcare, I aspire to create a youth mentorship program and a family resource counseling nonprofit to support families and young people facing challenges. I am most passionate about caring for others and being a source of support during difficult times. Becoming a teen mother taught me responsibility and gave me a strong sense of purpose. As a caregiver for my mother and during my father’s final months of life, I learned the importance of compassion, patience, and dignity. These experiences shaped my desire to pursue nursing. I am a strong candidate for because of my resilience, determination, and commitment to my goals. Balancing motherhood, caregiving, and my education has been challenging, but it has strengthened me. My name is Brooklyn Harris, and I am a nursing student with a deep passion for helping others and creating positive change within my community. I was born and raised in Bolivar, Tennessee, and many of my life experiences have shaped the person I am today. From an early age, I learned the importance of resilience, compassion, and perseverance through difficult circumstances. Those lessons not only strengthened my character, but also inspired me to pursue a career dedicated to serving others through healthcare. Growing up, I witnessed how important compassionate care can be for individuals and families during challenging moments in life. I saw how nurses and healthcare professionals could bring comfort, hope, and reassurance to people who were hurting physically and emotionally. Their ability to care for patients beyond just their medical needs inspired me to choose nursing as my career path. I realized that I wanted to be the kind of person who could make others feel safe, valued, and supported during vulnerable times. My goal is to become a nurse practitioner and use my education to improve the lives of people in underserved communities. Many families face barriers to healthcare, including financial struggles, lack of transportation, and limited access to quality medical resources. I want to help bridge those gaps by providing compassionate, patient-centered care and educating individuals about their health so they can make informed decisions for themselves and their families. I believe healthcare should be accessible, respectful, and empowering for everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. In addition to providing medical care, I want to become an advocate for people whose voices are often overlooked. I believe that every patient deserves to be treated with dignity, compassion, and understanding. As a future healthcare provider, I hope to create environments where patients feel comfortable expressing their concerns and confident that they are being heard. I also want to focus on educating communities about preventative healthcare and wellness because many illnesses can be reduced or managed through proper education and early intervention. Outside of healthcare, I hope to make a positive impact by mentoring and encouraging young people who may feel limited by their circumstances. I understand how difficult it can be to pursue your goals while facing personal hardships, financial challenges, or self-doubt. Because of this, I want to be an example of resilience and determination for others who may need encouragement. I hope to inspire young people to continue their education, believe in their abilities, and understand that difficult beginnings do not determine their future success. Service and compassion are values that guide my everyday life. Whether through volunteering, community outreach, or patient care, I want my actions to reflect genuine empathy and a commitment to helping others. My education is more than just a pathway to a career. It is an opportunity to create meaningful change in the lives of individuals, families, and communities. I want to use my knowledge and experiences to improve health outcomes, advocate for equitable healthcare, and provide hope to those facing difficult situations. Through dedication, faith, and service, I hope to leave a lasting impact on the world by caring for others not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. Ultimately, I want my life and career to reflect compassion, leadership, and perseverance. I hope to build stronger communities by uplifting others, promoting health and wellness, and showing people that they are valued and deserving of care. By pursuing nursing, I am pursuing a purpose that allows me to serve others while creating positive and lasting change in the world around me.

Becoming a teen mom at 17 reshaped my entire outlook on life and my educational journey. At a time when most people are focused on themselves, I had to quickly learn how to prioritize, sacrifice, and think beyond the present moment. My children became my reason to keep going, even when things felt overwhelming. Balancing school, parenting, and everyday responsibilities was not easy. There were times when I felt exhausted and uncertain about how I would move forward, but becoming a mother gave me a level of determination I did not have before. I understood that my education was not just about me anymore; it was about creating stability, opportunity, and a better future for my children. Being a teen mom also taught me resilience in a very real way. I had to grow up quickly, manage my time carefully, and stay focused despite distractions and challenges. When I later entered LPN school, I carried that same determination with me. However, my journey was further challenged when my father became ill, and I had to step away from my program to care for him. Even now, I continue to carry significant family responsibilities as a caretaker for my mother as well. Balancing these roles has not been easy, but it has strengthened my sense of responsibility and deepened my compassion. Although these experiences created setbacks, they reinforced the values I had already developed: putting family first, staying strong during hard times, and not giving up on my long-term goals. My experience as both a teen mom and a caregiver has directly influenced my decision to pursue a career in nursing. Through caring for my father during his illness and continuing to support my mother, I have seen firsthand how important compassionate, attentive healthcare is. I realized that nursing is not just about treating a condition; it is about supporting people and their families during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. These experiences deepened my desire to be in a profession where I can make a meaningful difference. I chose nursing because it aligns with who I am at my core. I have developed patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure through my life experiences. I understand what it means to care for someone beyond their physical needs, and I want to bring that level of compassion into my career. Nursing will allow me to combine my personal experiences with professional skills to provide high-quality, patient-centered care. Looking toward the future, my goals are rooted in both personal and professional growth. I want to build a stable and fulfilling life for my children, showing them that hard work and perseverance can lead to success regardless of where you start. I also want to serve my community by providing compassionate care, especially to individuals who may feel overlooked or underserved. Ultimately, my journey as a teen mom and caregiver has not held me back; it has pushed me forward with purpose, strength, and a clear vision for the future.

My journey as a single mother pursuing my education has been shaped by responsibility, sacrifice, and determination. While enrolled in LPN school, I was also caring for my father as his health began to decline. As his condition worsened, I was faced with an incredibly difficult decision. I ultimately had to step away from my program to care for him full time. Walking away from something I had worked so hard for was not easy, and at times it felt like my goals were slipping further out of reach. At the same time, I was navigating motherhood, doing everything I could to provide stability and support for my children while managing the emotional and physical demands of caregiving. One of the biggest challenges I have faced is balancing multiple responsibilities at once. As a single mother, I carry the full weight of providing, nurturing, and being emotionally present for my children while also trying to succeed academically. There have been long nights filled with studying after putting my children to sleep, moments of exhaustion where giving up felt easier, and times when financial stress made continuing school feel uncertain. Stepping away from school added to those challenges, bringing uncertainty about when or if I would be able to return. Despite these hardships, my journey has also been incredibly fulfilling. Motherhood has given me a sense of purpose that pushes me beyond my limits. Every obstacle I overcome is not just for me, but for my children, and that gives my efforts a deeper meaning. Caring for my father during his illness strengthened my compassion and reaffirmed my desire to work in healthcare. It showed me the importance of patience, empathy, and being present for others during their most vulnerable moments. Returning to my educational path has been one of my proudest accomplishments because it represents my resilience and commitment to my goals. I have grown not only as a student, but as a person. I have developed discipline, perseverance, and a deeper understanding of what it truly means to care for others. Pursuing education is my way of creating a better future for my family. I am working toward a career in healthcare where I can provide stability for my children while also making a meaningful impact in the lives of others. Through further education, I hope to open doors to opportunities that once felt out of reach. I want to build a life where my children feel secure, supported, and inspired to chase their own dreams. Beyond financial stability, I also hope to uplift my family by being an example of strength and perseverance. I want my children to see that even when life presents unexpected challenges, it is still possible to keep going and succeed. My journey is not just about earning a degree, but about building a legacy of resilience, opportunity, and hope for both myself and my family.

My desire to become a nurse is deeply rooted in my life experiences and the responsibilities I have carried from a young age. Becoming a teen mother shaped me in ways that forced me to grow up quickly. It taught me to be responsible, to stay strong during difficult moments, and to put someone else’s needs before my own. While it was not the path I expected, it gave me a clear purpose to build a better life for my child and to become someone they can look up to. Throughout my life, my sense of responsibility has only grown. I became a caregiver for my mother. At the same time, I experienced one of the most difficult moments of my life caring for my father during the final months of his life. Watching someone you love go through that kind of transition is heartbreaking, but it also opened my eyes in a way nothing else could. During that time, I saw firsthand the difference that nurses can make. It was not just the care they provided medically, but the way they treated my father with dignity and supported my family emotionally. In moments where we felt overwhelmed and uncertain, their presence brought comfort and reassurance. That experience stayed with me. It made me realize that nursing is more than a profession; it is about showing up for people when they need it most. Balancing being a single mother, a caregiver, and a student has required sacrifice and determination. There have been moments where giving up would have been easier, but I have continued to push forward because I know what I am working toward. These experiences have shaped my character, strengthened my resilience, and prepared me for the demands of a nursing career. I want to be a nurse because I understand what it truly means to care for someone beyond their physical needs. I know how important it is to be patient, to listen, and to offer comfort during difficult times. My goal is not only to provide quality care, but to be the kind of nurse who makes patients feel safe, heard, and valued. My journey has not been easy, but it has given me something invaluable: purpose. Nursing will allow me to turn my experiences into something meaningful. It will allow me to give back, to support families like mine, and to be a source of strength for others during their most vulnerable moments. I am not just pursuing nursing as a career. I am pursuing it because it reflects who I am, what I have lived through, and the kind of impact I want to make.
