For much of my life, I felt like I was never quite enough. Today, as a Fine Arts student major at Kennesaw State University, I carry that lesson with me. I aim to work across both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and immersive installations that invite viewers to step into spaces that feel like memories, dreams, or moments of childhood wonder brought to life. One of my greatest goals is to create large-scale, interactive installations that allow people to engage directly with the work—to feel as though they are walking through imagination itself. In a world that often feels fast-paced and demanding, I want to create spaces where people can slow down, reconnect with curiosity, and remember what it feels like to wonder without pressure or expectation. Through my art, I want people to feel seen. I want young artists, children, and those struggling with mental health or self-esteem to recognize that creativity is not something reserved for a select few. It is a form of self-discovery, healing, and connection. I hope to one day work with the youth through art therapy, helping others use creativity to express what words sometimes cannot. The world often asks people to submit—to fit into predetermined roles and become smaller versions of themselves. My art invites them to flourish instead. I want people to keep dreaming, to remain curious, and to remember that they have the power to define themselves. If my work can help even one person reconnect with that part of themselves, then I will have made the impact I set out to create.

All I wanted was a burrito. One frozen burrito. That’s it. Nothing fancy. Just a warm, edible cylinder of beans and questionable cheese to get me through the day. The instructions said: remove from wrapper, microwave two minutes, flip, then two more minutes. Simple, right? I followed them to the letter… and the burrito still decided to violently self-destruct halfway through the process like it was trying to escape. At minute two, I opened the microwave and was greeted by something that looked like abstract art: cheese everywhere, beans on the glass plate, and a tortilla that had half-dissolved into the microwave floor, like it had seen too much and given up. I stood there, fork in hand, staring into the wreckage, thinking: “This is fine. This is salvageable.” (It wasn’t.) Of course, I flipped the remains over like a burnt pancake and kept going. When it came out, the ends were hot enough to power a small city, and the middle was still frozen. I took one bite, regretted my life choices, and ended up eating a granola bar instead. The microwave still smells like betrayal and disappointment. I’ve been making eye contact with the microwave ever since. It knows what it did.

This piece is a personal tribute to my mom and my aunt—two women who have helped shape who I am. I wanted to create something that captures the love, strength, and protection they’ve given me throughout my life. Instead of making it realistic, I chose abstract forms to focus more on the emotion and connection between us. Each figure in the sculpture represents one of us. My mom is shaped like a tree, strong, grounded, and always steady. She’s been a guiding force in my life, like deep roots that keep me anchored. My aunt are the flower petals, her warmth and love have surrounded me and helped me grow. In the center, I represent a sprout, small but growing, supported by the strength and care around me. Nature plays a big role in this piece because it mirrors the kind of growth that happens through relationships. Trees don’t grow alone, they’re supported by soil and care. That’s how I see myself, becoming more of who I am because of the people who have always stood beside me. This piece means a lot to me because it’s about family, love, and identity. It’s a quiet way to say thank you to the people who helped me become myself.
