The day I became qualified on my 16th birthday, I applied to volunteer at a local hospital and was accepted as a Junior Hospital Volunteer after a thorough interview process. I worked in concierge, mother-infant, and radiology units, learning to engage with patients and families, assist visitors, and transport patients to and from scans. In this position, I was able to meet patients in many different walks of life, some on one of the hardest days of their life, some on the best, and some somewhere in between. This experience not only shaped me in an emotional sense, but I was also able to build meaningful connections with hospital staff, including Physician Assistants, developing a greater sense of what I want to do professionally. This hands-on experience, research, and professional conversations, truly changed my life and made me confident that becoming a Physician Assistant is the path in which I can make a meaningful impact on the world.
