FinalistBio
My name is Brionna Bowser, and I am a student at Assumption University, studying Accounting and Finance with a minor in Spanish. After completing my bachelor's degree, I aspire to go to graduate school to further my education in Business and Accounting and proceed to take the exams for the CPA and CMA certifications. Alongside my education, I have shared a strong passion for soccer since childhood. I volunteered to coach youth soccer players as an assistant coach so I can share my passion with young athletes. I have played for Lunenburg High School Girls Soccer Team for all four years of high school, being titled League Champions my senior year. I also play intramural soccer at Assumption University. Not only do I have a strong passion for soccer, but I possess a passion for giving back to the community, especially my church community at the Our Lady of the Lake Church. My religion has been an important influence in my life and I enjoy giving back to the community for all they have given me. In addition to my academic and extracurricular pursuits, other components of what makes me “me” are visiting the ocean, swimming, running, spending time with family, and my love for the environment.

Polish American Women's Scholarship
I take great pride in celebrating my Polish heritage, as honoring my Polish heritage is a crucial part of my identity. My family cherishes traditions, from preparing classic Polish dishes, such as pierogies, golumpki, and kielbasa, to honoring holiday traditions, such as reenacting Nativity plays at our church. However, my connection to my heritage extends beyond traditions; I actively incorporate it into my professional life as well. I work for Kawa Roasters, Inc., a coffee roasting company that embraces Polish culture, with “Kawa” meaning “coffee” in Polish. As the website creator and social media manager, I strive to engage the New England community while highlighting the Polish roots behind the brand. Celebrating the legacy of my ancestors is more than a personal passion; it shapes my identity, influences my decisions, and serves as a guiding force in my life.
Not only am I passionate about my Polish heritage, but I also care deeply about advocating for women’s rights and environmental sustainability. While I may not directly contribute to the feminist movement, I actively engage with feminist social media platforms, using them as a space for education and awareness. By interacting with posts and discussions, I help amplify conversations about gender equality worldwide. In addition to advocating for women’s rights, I am committed to environmental sustainability. Climate change is a major concern for me, and I take an active role in making a difference. I have led and participated in a service project dedicated to removing invasive species from a local conservation park in my town. Furthermore, as a member of “The Assumption University Greenhounds”, I engage in meaningful discussions about environmental issues, explore solutions, and contribute to service projects across Worcester. Through my involvement in these causes, I have gained a deeper understanding of both social and environmental challenges, reinforcing my belief in the importance of protecting our planet and advocating for equality.
Beyond my passion for these causes, I deeply cherish the childhood memories I have of my grandfather, whose resilience shaped my outlook on life. Diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at 15, he faced immense health challenges, including an experimental kidney-pancreas transplant, quadruple bypass surgery, and double leg amputation; yet he never let these challenges defeat him. His humor was endless, proudly handing out “Professional Patient” business cards to his doctors, always bringing smiles. His determination and courage inspire me daily, instilling in me the drive to chase my dreams fearlessly and never let obstacles stand in my way. He has shaped my identity and made me the hardworking, passionate, and courageous woman I am today.
If I could have dinner with any famous woman, I would choose Maya Angelou, a famous poet and symbol for resilience. My mother first introduced me to her work, knowing that I am deeply passionate about women’s rights and eager to learn more about the Civil Rights Movement. Her poem “Still I Rise” is one of my personal favorites, inspiring me in a similar light as my grandfather. I deeply admire her courage to confront injustice, even though my struggles are not identical to hers. Her legacy proves that one person’s words can uplift generations and people all around the world. As someone who often feels hesitant about activism beyond social media, I would ask her: “What advice would you give to someone striving to make a meaningful difference in the world?” My involvement for change has primarily been through social media platforms. However, I aspire to do more. I would cherish the wisdom she could give me as I am deeply inspired by her courageous nature and writings.
