My name is Bridgette Clarke. I am currently in my senior year at Morrow High School, in Ellenwood, Georgia. After graduating from Morrow High School I plan to attend Fort Valley State University, majoring in Computer Science Technology. I will pursue a career in the technology industry as a Cybersecurity analyst. During my elementary and middle school years, I always loved the subject math. The subject math always appealed to me because it allowed me to use different strategies, formulas, and/or techniques in order to solve a problem. My brain would turn gears like never before and I would endure a euphoric experience every time I attempted to try and solve a math equation from start to finish. Just the process it takes to solve a problem always filled me with utter satisfaction and joy Now in my senior year of high school, I realized that my statement “my favorite subject is math” wasn’t actually true at all. My math, computer science, and engineering teacher challenged me enough for me to come to that conclusion. I was able to exert the dedication and hard work I have by identifying a problem and creating a functional hand crafted wooden bridge through countless times of trial and error. I was able to utilize my ability to take my work seriously, and put my all into it in order to receive Microsoft word certification, and persevered and stayed disciplined through the toughest, most challenging quadratic equations to earn a 100% on the unit 3 test. Attending Fort Valley State University will allow me to apply my work ethic on a higher level to reach my professional objectives and become a cybersecurity analyst. Once I have obtained my degree, I will use the skills I have acquired to create technologies to protect internet users against unauthorized exploitation of systems, networks, and technologies. I envision myself working with the information technology departments of large companies like Microsoft and McAfee, with regards to cyber security. My goal is to be a successful black woman making a difference in a male dominated field. After I achieve my goal I will empower and provide support to low-income black families from my own community to choose a career they love, put forth their best effort to be successful. My pursuit of a college level of education in order to become a Cybersecurity Analyst won't be attainable through my parents pockets. But with the help of this scholarship, I will be able to apply all the skills and knowledge I’ve obtained through school to becoming successful. Not only will it put me in a comfortable position financially, but it will fulfill my dreams and satisfaction of challenging myself, using different strategies, techniques, and solutions to make a difference in my career field & life.

For me, giving back to my community is an important aspect of being a responsible and contributing member of society. It has a ripple effect that can benefit the community as a whole and even inspire others to get involved One of the projects that I have completed is a community service group called Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity. They changed my view on those particular people who don't own homes. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization that allows people with a low to moderate income to build & purchase new and affordable homes. In return, homebuyers are required to volunteer and give back to the community. Some of the activities I completed included attending classes, investing time in volunteer work, and helping build houses for others who are in need. Through the organization Habitat for Humanity, I have volunteered a plethora of time to help those who apply to purchase homes build their houses. Through this program, I learned that the benefit of giving back to my community is that it helps to create a sense of unity and connectedness within the community. When people come together to work towards a common goal or to help those in need, it helps to build stronger bonds between neighbors and creates a sense of community pride. For example, when I participated in the action of building houses for those in need, it altered my perspective on those who don’t own homes. I always thought homeless people were lazy and didn't have enough fight and courage to have home ownership. But when I actually saw those applicants who went through the struggle and I actively contributed to them getting back on their feet, it just felt so surreal. I couldn’t believe that the little time I spent building the house was a lifetime's worth of work and effort appreciated by the low-income applicant who was purchasing this home. It made me realize that my neighbor's lifestyle could be very different from mine but with a little assistance, my neighbor could be a great addition to my life and a community that could all grow together. In conclusion, giving back to my community is an important way for me to contribute to the well-being of those around me and positively impact the world. Whether through volunteering, charitable donations, or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need, there are countless ways to make a difference and give back to my community.
