The medical field as well as the nursing industry, interests me because I am fascinated by the human body and its systems, medicine, medical procedures, and the interactions between professionals and patients/families. I have taught many high school science classes over the years such as health, biology, human anatomy, physiology, physics, physical science and ecology. As I taught, I learned. Everyday, I felt like I learned something new. I am truly amazed by science. I enjoy learning about the body as well as teaching others to understand their own body. My experience as a teacher will help guide my endeavor in becoming an amazing care giver by providing an in depth background in genetics, cytology, ecology, pathology and morphology among many other science topics. My goal is to become an RN to serve my community which I am very passionate about. Community service is where my heart is happiest and I feel blessed when I can help others. This desire was refueled when I spent many month in a hospital watching nurses take care of my sick daughter. That’s when I felt compelled to pursue nursing. I knew right then that this wasn’t just a thought but a life long dream of mine that I needed to do. I would also like to pursue my master’s degree so I could work in a managerial position within a hospital as well as become an educator in the college setting to once again, teach others. I have many accomplishments to date. I have successfully taught high school math and science for 17 years. I have taught college math for several years as well. I have taught Advanced Placement Biology to prepare students for college with great success. I also have a master’s degree in Leadership and Administration. I feel that all my background in science and my master’s degree will help prepare me for any nursing position or managerial nursing position. I am currently seeking out internships or volunteer positions at my local hospital. I really want to get some volunteer hours in at the hospital to get grounded in the medical setting. I want to be a positive role model for others and a bright light in the medical environment. I wish to only better myself and the others I am around. I enjoy working with others and being part of a proactive team. This scholarship will mean a lot to me. I am a single mother of 3 young adults, 2 are in college currently. I am paying around $20,000 for this degree out of pocket. I do not qualify for Pell grant. I will be using loans to help me get through the next 15 months until I graduate. Loans will be for educational expenses, transportation (I am 3 hours from the college campus) and with daily living expenses. Any help is appreciated tremendously.

I feel like this degree will help prepare me for a managerial position in nursing. I do not have medical experience other than my time spent in the hospital with my daughter and teaching sciences. However, I am currently seeking out internships or volunteer positions at my local hospital. I really want to get some volunteer hours in at the hospital to get grounded in the medical setting. I want to be a positive role model for others and a bright light in the medical environment. I wish to only better myself and the others I am around. I enjoy working with others and being part of a proactive team. I am excited for my future career in the nursing industry! I love to learn, I love to teach and I love to serve. I hope that through my work I can inspire others to do the same.

I consider myself to be a non traditional student. I am 47 years old. I taught high school math and science for 17 years. I have a master’s degree in Administration and Leadership. I take random courses through out the year as I work full time to stay on top of my game and to curve my curiosity for learning new things. I am now entering nursing school this fall and cannot wait to become a registered nurse! I am a first generation successful and ambitious college graduate seeking out another bachelor’s degree. I love learning and I love teaching. I feel as though they go hand in hand. Being a non traditional student makes me a positive role model for my students as well as my own children. I am a single mother of 3 spirited young adults. In the beginning, it was difficult being a single mother while going to college. But I managed to make it all work. I graduated and was able to show my children that there is no circumstance tough enough that they could not push through if they wanted something bad enough. I believe that my own ambitious ways have lead my youngest daughter to pursue her passion as a nurse as well. We will be in college at the same time. What a wonderful experience to share with my child. My oldest daughter decided that she too wanted to pursue a college degree. I have no doubt that being a non traditional college student impacted all of our lives for the better. My future goals are to become a nurse, work in various fields and decided what I enjoy most. I am in no rush to settle in any one area. I want to make a positive impact in my work environment and work for a team that strives for personal and professional success. I will also pursue my master’s degree online while I am working in the nursing field. I will either use this degree to become a nurse practitioner or to provide my experience and services as a nurse instructor at the local college. I love education, I love to learn, I love to teach and I love to be an inspiration to others. Being a non traditional student has provided me with a very fulfilled life and a sense of pride that I want to share with others. It has made such a positive impact in my life and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.

I have fostered a love for math and science in many students that felt as though they would always lack in that area. I have built many life long relationships with many of these students. One of my previous students currently works as a nurse at a children’s hospital. After she graduated high school, she thanked me for teaching her basic human anatomy and physiology that helped her through many of her nursing classes. Now, she is one of my people that I go to for nursing school advice! What a wonderful thing. Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I am 46 years old and I currently teach math and science to high school students. I have a Master's degree in Educational Leadership. As an educator of 17 years, I have decided to return to school to become a full-time nursing student. My ultimate goal is to continue serving my community by becoming a nurse practitioner by 2028. As a single mother of 3, I decided that education was going to be my most important experience and attribute that I could pursue in the hopes that my children would follow suit. It was a difficult journey but led to 17 years of great fulfillment as I taught thousands of beautiful minds. As I grew older, I had this feeling of wanting to serve the community differently. Nursing came to mind. I watched several friends pursue that avenue and was very happy they did. But with little monetary means and young children that were my priority, I put the dream on the back burner. Years later, I entered the hospital to be with my eldest child as she was going to suffer her second loss by miscarriage. On September 28, 2023, my only grandson was born at 19 weeks gestation. It was a tragic loss and a devastating time. During that time, I couldn’t help but feel that I was in the wrong profession. Though I enjoyed teaching and loved my students, being in that hospital for over 4 weeks with my daughter, brought out the passion I once felt earlier in my career as I watched nurses care for and provide hope to my suffering family. I knew at that moment that it was now or never. I decided to seek out nursing school. I spent weeks researching colleges that would be right for my needs. I landed at Arkansas State University. I will enter their Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in October of 2024. Somedays the excitement is overwhelming and I can’t wait to get started. I have already begun purchasing books and other educational materials that I can begin using to prepare for this new endeavor. Even though my grandson is not here to change the world, I cannot help but think he was sent here to change mine. He is the reason I will make a difference in this world. And for that, I will always be grateful. This passion and drive that I have is attributed to the love I have for him and our community. Helping others, showing compassion, and caring for anyone in need is what makes my heart content. I have always wanted to stay in the community service field. This scholarship will be a blessing in helping me reach my goals as well as honoring my grandson.

As a single Christian mother of 3, I have fallen short of the glory of God but am reassured every day of the love and compassion that He has for each one of us. I believe that God has a plan for every soul that is brought on this earth. Regardless if they are here for a moment or a lifetime, there is a reason. I decided that education and religion were going to be the most important experiences and attributes that I could pursue in the hopes that my children would follow suit. Over the years I have found myself patiently waiting for God's plan for my life. Professionally, It was a difficult journey but led to 17 years of great fulfillment as I taught and ministered to thousands of beautiful minds in the education system. In my personal life, I have always leaned on and trusted in the Lord's timing. Sometimes it is difficult to understand and often doesn't make sense, but in time, His plan is always revealed to us. God is always there to lead us to our destiny, even when times are difficult. I can find the beauty and direction that has been laid before me if I am willing to listen. Several months ago, I entered the hospital to be with my eldest child as she was going to suffer her second loss by miscarriage. Regardless of the prayers and emotions, on September 28, 2023, my only grandson was born at 19 weeks gestation. It was a tragic loss and a devastating time for so many. My daughter's health deteriorated tremendously. She suffered kidney damage, and liver failure and developed a double pneumonia infection. She could not walk or eat anything for weeks. We all continued to pray and believe that the Lord was with us. Even though my grandson is not here to change the world, I cannot help but think he was sent here by our Maker to change mine. Being in that hospital for over 4 weeks with my daughter, brought out the passion I have felt for many years. I want to serve my God through nursing! And for that, I will always truly be grateful. This passion and drive that I have is attributed to the love I have for him. Helping others, showing compassion, and caring for anyone in need is what makes my heart content. I have always wanted to stay in the community service field. This scholarship will be a blessing in helping me reach my goals as well as honoring my grandson.

As an educator of 17 years, I have decided to return to school to become a full-time nursing student. My ultimate goal is to continue serving my community by becoming a nurse practitioner by 2028. As a single mother of 3, I decided that education needed to be the most important experience and attribute that I could pursue in my lifetime. It was a difficult journey but led to 17 years of great fulfillment as I taught thousands of beautiful minds, math, and science. As I grew older, I had this feeling of wanting to serve the community differently. Nursing came to mind. I watched several friends pursue that avenue and were very happy they did.
