Art as love. From a young age, I saw art as a form of love. At eight years old, I was captivated by minions and searched for a drawing tutorial on YouTube. Completing my first drawing filled me with joy, igniting a newfound passion for art. I eagerly shared my creation with my family, and their supportive praise further fueled my enthusiasm. That same day, I found myself craving more artistic challenges. I began exploring tutorials on animals, becoming particularly fascinated by snow leopards and their intricate patterns. As I experimented with color and shading, my love for art continued to blossom. Throughout middle school, I chose art as an elective, allowing me to expand my skills in sculpture, painting, and drawing. My art teacher became a significant influence, encouraging me to consider a career in the arts. She suggested architecture, which intrigued me, but I ultimately realized my true passion lay in car design. Like love, the path to discovering my passion was not straightforward, often leading me in unexpected directions. In my AP Art classes during my sophomore and junior years, I immersed myself in surrealism, striving to convey deeper meanings in my work. I learned that, similar to love, art is shaped by personal perception—both my own and that of others. I created imaginative pieces, such as a jigsaw puzzle table featuring the Empire State Building, with stairs bursting from missing pieces in a desert. I also designed a car floating in space, surrounded by infinite spirals of stairs. Later, I explored sound art, interpreting music through my two-dimensional compositions. In this process, I discovered my artistic style, which blends expressionism and photorealism. Throughout my AP Art experience, I faced various challenges, from time management to the pressure of creating “perfect” pieces weekly. I experienced a range of emotions: frustration when a piece didn't turn out as I envisioned, joy when my teacher praised my work, and stress from writing required essays. I came to understand that art is not about perfection; it’s a journey—much like love. The obstacles I encountered, whether planning a piece or dealing with creative blocks, became integral parts of the artistic process. As Vice President of the Visual Arts Club, I noticed that many prospective members hesitated to create, believing their work needed to be perfect. Hearing their fears about judgment was disheartening. I strive to convey that perfection does not exist in art and that everyone can learn and create without needing to be an expert. My goal is for members to leave the club feeling grateful for their experience, understanding that art, like love, is filled with diverse perceptions and imperfections. I believe that whether you’re a beginner or have been creating for years, there’s always something new to learn about art. This continuous discovery is what drew me in. Just as love evolves through relationships, friendships, and self-acceptance, art also offers endless opportunities for growth and experience. This passion is why I want to major in fine arts. I envision a future where art remains a central part of my life, guiding me as I pursue my career. Like love, my artistic journey will have its ups and downs, but I am committed to embracing it wholeheartedly. In summary, art is my love—an ever-evolving journey that reflects my experiences, emotions, and aspirations. Through my exploration of various artistic styles, I have learned that the beauty of art lies not in its perfection but in the passion and vulnerability behind it. This understanding drives me forward, ensuring that I will continue to create, learn, and grow as an artist.
