Bio

I am currently studying to graduate with a double major in marine biology and aquaculture and aquarium science. My minor will be photography and I aspire to have a job working with animals and the ocean/ water whether that be in an aquarium or working with a fishery. I currently volunteer in my school’s wet lab, which grows species for research as well as commercial use. Although studying marine biology and all the classes that come with it is challenging, I have always been and still am determined to finish through with my double major and minor and graduate in order to peruse opportunities in the field I’ve always wanted to spend my life in.

Since even before I can remember, I have had an unstoppable obsession with water, particularly the ocean, and the seemingly infinite life living within it. Even during a recent blizzard I walked down to the beach three separate times just to experience the beach while it’s snowing because I hadn’t had that chance before. I have always been fascinated by multiple fields of science, some examples such as biology, astronomy, chemistry, and physics. Along with that, my persistent and strong love for the ocean and its inhabitants has always been my top interest, and now that I’m in college I can finally pursue that interest to a deeper level. My main goal from double majoring in marine biology along with aquaculture and aquarium science is to have the skills necessary to work in the fields of my majors. I don’t currently have a specific job in mind that I would like to have in the future but I currently enjoy volunteering in my university’s wet lab, which is used for research as well as raising species for commercial sales. My responsibilities in the wet lab include preparing the species’ various foods multiple times per shift, and maintaining the tank systems by cleaning them, their multiple filter parts, and by doing water changes when they’re needed. I love working with, learning about, and observing so many different species and my favorite part about studying and working with marine biology so far is seeing the information that I learn in my marine biology classes in action in the different environments I surround myself with, such as often walks to the beach and the different tanks in the wet lab. I hope as I continue my studies that I will have opportunities to participate in research through my university and I am planning to seek out possible opportunities. As for over the summer, when I don’t have classes, I am presently looking to secure a job or internship at the New England Aquarium in Boston, Massachusetts. This would give me further experience into my future field and would also allow me to be able to know and have a look into more possible career paths within my interests.
