My personal inspiration for pursing a career in nursing started back in 2012, when my mom was in the hospital due to heart problems. The hospital became a second home for me since I would visit her every night. Because my mom was taken care for by nurses for so many years, they became by biggest inspiration. The nurses always treated my family and I with the best care I could ever wish for most importantly for my mom. From then on, my mom and I went to her follow-ups every so often and the nurses would always make me feel so comfortable. They would take me to the play areas or to an arts and craft place and do arts and crafts with me. From how well I was treated and thought of by the nurses to also them helping my mom to get better from her surgeries, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. From my interest into the nursing field, I’ve been volunteering at my nearby local hospital, Arnot Ogden, for over three years. Over the course of the three years, it has made me get a realistic understanding of what a nurse does and the different types of responsibilities. In volunteering, I would help different departments from Phlebotomy to Pediatrics with getting medications for the patients from pharmacy, picking up patient files and dropping them off in the filing room, transporting samples from Phlebotomy to the lab and transporting patients to the families cars. From volunteering, it has showed me how many different types of nursing careers you can get into, which led me to researching in depth of types of nursing I could pursue. From volunteering and in-depth research I fell in love with the thought of helping kids in need, pediatrics. Pediatrics made me feel that if I helped a kid, it was one more kid who could have a huge impact on this world in some way, shape, or form. From the volunteering to the research, my biggest motivation is to become a successful nurse in the nursing industry. When I become a nurse, my goals are to gain new knowledge everyday that I can apply to patients for them to have the best care so they can recover successfully. I also want patients to have a complete understanding of their health just like how my mom received from her nurses. Eventually in my nursing career, I want to go back to school to further advance my career as a nurse and become a Nurse Practitioner or a Nurse Anesthetist.

I plan to make a positive impact on the world through the nursing field through many different ways. One of them is providing compassionate care for the terminally ill patients especially the patients who don't have a support system with them. I would motivate patients to get through whatever mental, physical, or/and emotional state they may be in because they've been in the hospital for a period of time which can cause some people to have different types of emotions for some people. I would also motivate patients to meet diet, nutrition, and fitness goals, which could positively impact their mental and physical state which could help prevent patients from having to return to the hospital. I also want to impact the world positively by listening to a patient, respecting their dignity, or making them feel seen—can create ripples of positive change. I want to be part of that ripple effect, helping to create a more compassionate and healthier world. I also want to make a positive impact on the world by giving back to the communities of the less fortunate, like setting up charity donations for clothing, money, food, water, etc. This scholarship would help me achieve my goals by reducing the financial burden of nursing school and allowing me to fully focus on my education, clinical training, and professional development. This would also help me to be able to pay for expensive nursing textbooks needed for my education. It would also help me with purchasing the necessary items a nurse would have on them during a hospital shift, like good scrubs, a stethoscope, a penlight, a pair of medical scissors, and many other things which I would need for clinicals. My work will pay tribute to the memory of Owen by giving my life and my knowledge to help others. I hope I will be able to cure and help patients have a better source of life and health, so they can be successful in life. I also want my work to consist of helping my local communities. I also want to have donations for patients' families that may not be able to pay off for medical bills. I hope that the endurance and impact of being a nurse will be remembered by patients so that if they have any health issues again, they know who they can rely on to be able to get the proper medical attention.

I was inspired to study nursing because of my mom's heart condition. From when I was very little, four years old, I was always around a hospital. The environment and the ability to be able to save people's lives and change them always fascinated me. It interested me further when I noticed the nurses were the ones my mom loved because they helped her and understood her. That was also inspiring to me because the nurses were always around her, making sure she was okay, making sure she was comfortable, and making sure she understood why and what they would be doing to improve her well-being. The nurses also would make me feel comfortable and felt heard about what and why my mom was in the hospital. I hope to achieve through my career to gain knowledge and to gain the ability to use that knowledge to be able to understand, help, and save patients. As many as I can. I hope that because I did such a good job that the patients would be able to remember my hard work and dedication, just like how my mom remembers her nurses. I hope to achieve in my career to be a successful registered nurse, which then I would either go back to school to further my education to be a Nurse Practitioner or become a Nurse Anesthesiologist. I would like to make an impact on my community that I was able to save as many patients as I could. I want to be a nurse that is listens to patients concerns and make not only understand what was going on with them by understand who they are as people. I also want to make an impact on my community by organizing food drives for the less fortunate, volunteering opportunities for people, blood drives, vaccination clinics, and screening events for blood pressure and more. I will help carry on the values and traits exemplified by Maureen by being driven by ambition to help patients in whatever state of being they are in. I will be driven to improve the quality of patient care before their treatment and after their treatment. Not only have I been volunteering like Maureen did, I am inspired to be a nurse like Maureen. A nurse that was inspiring to others. Everyone deserves a chance of life and nurses give them that chance. Maureen was one of those nurses.

    1. My personal inspiration for pursing a career in nursing started back in 2012, when my mom was in the hospital due to heart problems. Human touch is the most powerful thing in the world in my opinion. It is so powerful it can impact a patients care and can positively affect their life. Human touch can be the most simplest thing from holding a patients hand to giving them a hug. To the patient it can mean that you are there for them and you'll do as much as you possibly can to help them. I knew it was the most powerful thing in world when I would visit my mom in the hospital and I would hold my moms hand when she was recovering from a surgery or surgeries and she would smile and kiss my forehead. It made me feel that she knew I was there for her and I would always be there supporting her through her recovery. Volunteering has also showed me that human touch was powerful and can impact the patients care. When transporting the patients, they would need help getting into their families vehicles after a surgery and I would offer my hand for them and they would take it. After they would get into the vehicle, they would smile and wave goodbye. It gave me a sense that even with the smallest touch it can change how they were mentally from the hospital. Hospitals can be a very dark place and time for people and they sometimes need someone there for them, a person who they know they can count on when it gets tough and can take care of them. That's why human touch is the most powerful thing in patient care.
