Buckle up! My name is Brianna DeFlorian and I am about to take you on a flight through my story, from the runway of inspiration to the destination of my dreams.
To begin, allow me to tell you why I am so drawn to the skies. Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by the sheer magic of flight. There's something about defying gravity, soaring above the clouds, and feeling the rush of wind against your wings that just speaks to my soul. It's like poetry in motion, a dance between man and machine that never fails to leave me in awe.. When I finally got the chance to take my first flight, it was like a light bulb went off in my head – this is what I was meant to do.
As an accelerated and devoted high school student who graduated in the top 15 of my class with advanced placement courses, featured on the honor roll, and voted class representative; I find much fulfillment in dreaming big, accomplishing my goals, and positively impacting others in the process. While attending the University of Minnesota for my third year of college, I experienced extreme turbulence. Outside factors that unfortunately postponed being able to finish college at the time. Since then, I have devoted countless hours to balancing care for my grandmother, navigating health challenges, and working full time to save the funds to complete my mission. Being diagnosed with Bells Palsy was financially and emotionally taxing; however, I am more determined than ever to make the most of this life because it can change so very quickly. I was extremely relieved to find I still qualified for my first class medical. WIth your generous support, the funds will be applied directly to lessons at InFlight Pilot Training in Minnesota to earn my airline transport pilot (ATP) certificate and to eventually transfer to Purdue to obtain my bachelors degree in professional flight.
My love for aviation goes beyond just the thrill of flying. For me, it's about using this passion to make a difference in the world. That's why I'm pursuing a degree in aviation; not just to earn a piece of paper, but to gain the knowledge and skills I need to make a real impact. I'm committed to using my certificates to make the world a better place.
Being a first generation pilot in my extended family and network, I couldn't have gotten this far without the support of my community. From teachers who encouraged my curiosity to mentors who guided me along the way, I've been lucky enough to have a whole squadron of people cheering me on. I embark on this journey into the world of aviation determined to pay it forward by giving back to my community in any way I can. Aside from the field of aviation, my most memorable volunteer experience has been a biweekly Freedom Works Food Shelf where community members come together to collect food for their families. It warms my heart to see the immense gratitude and relief on their faces.
All in all, aviation isn't just a career path for me – it's a calling. It's a chance to combine my passion for flight with my desire to make a difference, all while staying connected to the community that has supported me every step of the way. So here's to the future! May it be filled with blue skies, smooth landings, and endless opportunities to soar. Thank you for your consideration for this special Kyle Rairdan Scholarship.
