First-Year College Students: Jennie Gilbert Daigre Education Scholarship
My name is Brian Reed Jr. I am a sophomore finance major from Baltimore Maryland and I am currently enrolled at Howard University. I felt like I was talented in the field of math and I love crunching down and computing numbers. I also wanted to enter the business world because I want to be able to be a huge inspiration to many others. If I had to name two people who are my idols as I progress through my college life it would be Donald Glover and Kanye West. The reason why I chose these two people is that I feel like they both are individuals who are just talented in one thing and use their creative ability to inspire many people and not be constricted to only one career. This is how I want to live my life as I enter the world. I want to be able to do fashion, business, acting, and many other careers and not only be bound to one career. But first I want to polish my business skills because I feel I have the skill and knowledge within that field. My plans to make a positive impact in the world are not only by inspiring many people to do whatever they please and not be bound by one specific profession. But also I want to use my career to raise awareness in poor diverse communities that don't get enough attention or help that they need. I feel like I was raised as a giver and want to be successful enough to where I can give back to everyone who supported me and help anyone with a rough lifestyle. I come to Baltimore which is known as a city full of crime and poverty and had a lot of hardships and setbacks. I also come from a low income, so living with six family members was a bit difficult for me because we had to conserve our food and money to keep a good stable living. I didn't want to be stuck in the lifestyle so I decided to focus on getting a great education and becoming not only a great student but also a great person by passing all my classes and giving back to my community by participating in many community services groups. I want to make a positive impact in the world by being a kind person and if I can at least help one person through my efforts and impact their life in any way that would make me feel like I accomplish my goal of making an impact in my way.
Bookman 5 Scholarship
Good afternoon, my name is Brian Reed Jr, and I am currently a sophomore finance major attending Howard University. I decided to attend this university because I felt like it would offer me a new opportunity to help better my life and the lives of my family and friends. I come from a low-income household, so we had very few resources and our money was very tight when deciding to purchase things we needed. Growing up was difficult considering my living conditions reside in Baltimore City, a city full of crime and poverty. I grew up seeing break-ins, assaults, thefts, and many other illegal activities in my area that I unfortunately not only witnessed but had to experience.
I didn't want the community I grew up in to affect me and the life decisions that can potentially make me resort to actions like this, so I decided to dedicate my time and effort to my education by performing very well in each grade level and being involved in clubs and athletics. I saw Howard University on my radar because I saw the school giving me a culture and opportunity and being surrounded by people just like me who also want to improve their lives ahead of them. My goal was to always go to college after my high school year because I want to be able to have a secure life by having a stable job and pursuing the field of Finance. I found that college helps gives you better connections with many people and the tools to help better yourself and your future.
I want to use my talents and knowledge to help better myself in life and work to perform with high expectations in the business world. I want to use my degree to connect my friends and family with many job employers that I know and give back to them for all the years that help me get to his point. My goal is to give back and pursuing this degree in finance will allow me to not only improve my life and my financials but also allow me to help the ones I love and give them an opportunity that they never had because of their financial situations. That is why I feel like this scholarship will help me achieve the goal I want to reach and getting any assistance that I can get will help in the long run when trying to obtain a healthy and stable career. I thank you for allowing me to have this opportunity to express myself and my intentions for college and I hope that my story will reach the hearts of those who read this. Thank you and I hope I can inspire many others who have a similar background to me.
Lo Easton's “Wrong Answers Only” Scholarship
1. To be honest I just want this scholarship to flex on everyone about how they have to pay more money than I do so that way I can laugh at all their faces and than proceed to drop out the next month because I couldn't make it to my 9:00 am class because I was to busy gaming all night and watching old disney movies.
2. My goal is to manifest all the energy around the world by using my charisma, great personality, and my jaw-dropping handsomeness to have people donate me $100,000 a day just because I am me. Thats It.
3. I was asked to present a project for class that I had no idea we had and it sucked because I was the first to present. So with all the knowledge and courage I gain from my past experience. I decided to go up to the front and immediately leave the class and go back to my dorm to sleep. Was worth it cause I ate some chipotle after. Thanks.
Ms. Catherine Gipson Scholarship
During my high school years, I went to a private high school that had the majority of the white demographic. I felt like during those years of my life I wasn't able to grasp my culture and history as a black person and I feel like I am out of place and or I don't belong in certain groups associated with black culture. I have faced some racial discrimination at my high school and I want to be in a place more in line with black culture because I never really had a chance to experience that in my four years at high school which I felt was my prime years in terms of gaining information to have a certain level of understanding.
I decided to go to Howard University. An HBCU that I have heard of and even some of my family members have gone to as well. I didn't know what I was going to gain from the school but the only thing I looked forward to when applying was being around people who had a similar background as me. To my luck that is exactly what happened. I can safely say that my first year was amazing and opened me up to a whole new level of education and experience that I have never gotten during my four years at my high school. I finally was surrounded by the rich history and people who had the same intention as mine which made me feel welcomed at home and hoping that I can continue my full four years at this fully black-driven university because I feel like there is so much that I can gain and grow from.
Social Justice was a big part of our school and I feel like I have been placed in situations in the past where I was restricted because of the color of my skin. I believe that social justice is being able to achieve something that you believe in and not be bound by the restrictions of your race or where you come from. I decided that there needed to be change to progress as a community so I decided to support black local businesses and help some black people that are at my high school currently by giving them advice and assisting them with whatever they have trouble with.
Later on down the line, I would like to be financially at the point where I can donate and give back to black communities and people who supported me along the way. I want to do everything in my power to get through all four years of my college at Howard University and this scholarship will help push my goal and help along the way. I want to thank you for allowing me to have the opportunity to explain my background and my goals for the future and I hope that the world can have the change necessary to give every race and community a better future.
