I’m someone who believes in the power of community and the importance of giving back. Growing up, I was always surrounded by people who cared deeply about each other, and that instilled in me a sense of responsibility to contribute positively to the world around me. One time that stands out to me is when I organized a community clean-up event in my neighborhood.
It all started when I noticed how littered our local park had become. What used to be a vibrant space for families and children to enjoy was now marred by trash and debris. I felt a sense of urgency to take action, so I decided to rally my neighbors and organize a clean-up day. I started by creating flyers to spread the word, sharing my vision of restoring the park to its former glory. I reached out to local businesses for support, asking for donations of trash bags, gloves, and refreshments for the volunteers.
The day of the event arrived, and I was overwhelmed with joy to see so many community members show up. Families brought their children, and friends teamed up to tackle different areas of the park. As we worked together, we shared stories and laughter, building connections that went beyond just picking up trash. It was incredible to see everyone come together for a common purpose, and it reminded me of the strength we have when we unite.
By the end of the day, we had filled dozens of bags with trash, but more importantly, we had restored a sense of pride in our community. The park was transformed, and people were excited to use it again. I remember a little girl running to her mother, saying, “Look, Mom! Our park is beautiful!” That moment filled my heart with happiness, knowing that our efforts made a tangible difference.
The clean-up day taught me invaluable lessons about leadership, collaboration, and the impact of community service. It wasn’t just about cleaning up a park; it was about fostering a sense of belonging and encouraging others to take pride in their environment. Since then, I’ve continued to engage in various community service projects, but that particular day remains a cherished memory. It reinforced my belief that even small actions can lead to significant change, inspiring me to keep striving for a better community.
This helped with the overall care of the community and the children my children could play with.
So You Want to Be a Mental Health Professional Scholarship
I made the intentional decision to pursue a career in the healthcare field because I have always felt a profound calling to assist others and create a significant, positive impact on their lives. This aspiration was notably fueled by personal experiences, particularly the times I witnessed close friends and family members grapple with various health challenges. Observing their struggles ignited a deep-seated commitment within me to embark on a journey where I could offer compassionate care and support to those who need it most. The emotional weight of these experiences underscored the importance of healthcare professionals in helping individuals navigate their health journeys.
As I diligently work toward earning my degree, I envision a future where I can engage directly with patients, establishing genuine connections that can greatly enhance their healing processes. I aim to be attentive to their concerns and address their needs comprehensively, recognizing that healthcare extends beyond merely treating symptoms. It involves understanding the whole person, including their emotional and psychological well-being. I firmly believe that establishing trust and rapport with patients is crucial in delivering effective care.
Additionally, I possess a strong interest in contributing to research endeavors aimed at discovering innovative treatments or improving existing ones. The rapidly evolving landscape of medical science offers exciting opportunities to make a substantial difference in the lives of patients. I am particularly fascinated by the potential for advancements in technology and pharmaceuticals to revolutionize treatment options. I hope to be at the forefront of these developments, working collaboratively with other professionals to bring new solutions to light.
Moreover, I am enthusiastic about participating in public health initiatives that focus on promoting overall community well-being. I envision myself actively advocating for health education and preventive measures that empower individuals to take control of their health and well-being. By addressing health disparities and emphasizing the importance of preventive care, I believe we can create a healthier society. Ultimately, my aspiration is to play an integral role in a healthcare system that prioritizes health equity, ensuring that everyone has access to the care they need. I aim to enable individuals to live healthier, more fulfilling lives, creating a ripple effect that benefits society as a whole. Engaging in this work is not just a career for me; it is a lifelong commitment to serving others and improving the world around me.
Through these actions I hope to make a positive impact on my patients and the world around me.

Being a parent has influenced my life in so many ways, but the most inspiring would be my drive to have a purpose in my life for my girls to see. I want them to have someone to look up to especially when it comes to schooling. Neither of my parents went to college and I would love to provide the example of going back to school and succeeding for them to have a role model to look up to. I have two daughters, Lorelai and Emilia and they mean the world to me. Being able to show them that you can work through your problems and go back to school whenever they want would provide me with absolute joy. Going through school while they are old enough to understand provides a unique perspective that not many people get, but watching me study and do homework and take tests and succeed and fail will be important to model how I deal with these stressors of life and getting a degree. I have 2 girls watching me every step and I plan to get my degree and show them what it means to be proud.
I plan on getting a degree in Psychology with a concentration in mental health. I struggled for years with my mental health and had one objective; to get back to a healthy place and go back to school. After years of learning coping mechanisms, getting on medication, and dealing with my struggles I have a passion for helping other people, especially with mental health issues. I would love to help the world positively, and becoming a mental health professional would help me feel like I am on the right path. I would love to show my girls how important mental health is and how important it is to help other people.
