Bio

I have known that I wanted to be a doctor since I was 5 years old, and I'm finally starting my long journey to achieve that goal. I've decided in the last three years that I want to be an ultrasound technician or radiology technician, but money is a huge problem for me. I come from a very low-income family where both my parents are disabled and unable to work. I am a very hard working student who never has a grade below 90. Since I've always known what I wanted to be, I also knew that I would have to work hard to get there. I also struggle with ADHD and how much harder it makes my learning experience, but even with those struggles I still push through and do my very best.

Sean Carroll's Mindscape Big Picture Scholarship
Exploring and understanding the nature of our universe is a fundamental human endeavor that has captivated the minds of scientists, philosophers, and thinkers throughout history. This quest for knowledge is driven by a profound curiosity about the origins, structure, and ultimate fate of the cosmos we inhabit. The importance of better understanding the universe lies in the numerous benefits it brings to humanity, ranging from technological advancements to philosophical insights and a deeper appreciation of our place in the cosmos. One of the primary reasons for delving into the mysteries of the universe is the potential for technological innovation and advancement. Throughout history, scientific discoveries made in the pursuit of understanding the cosmos have often led to practical applications that significantly impact our daily lives. For example, the development of space exploration technologies has not only allowed us to study distant celestial bodies but has also resulted in advancements in fields such as materials science, telecommunications, and medical imaging. Moreover, understanding the universe enhances our ability to address pressing global challenges. For instance, studying the Earth's climate and the broader solar system can provide valuable insights into climate change and help us develop strategies for sustainable living. By comprehending the intricate interplay of cosmic forces and the delicate balance that sustains life on our planet, we are better equipped to make informed decisions about environmental conservation and resource management. Beyond these practical applications, the quest to understand the universe has profound philosophical implications. It addresses fundamental questions about our existence, the nature of reality, and the potential for life beyond our planet. The pursuit of knowledge about the cosmos encourages a spirit of exploration and a desire to transcend the boundaries of our current understanding. This intellectual curiosity is a driving force behind scientific progress and contributes to the cultural and educational enrichment of societies. To better understand the nature of our universe, scientists employ a variety of ideas and concepts that form the foundation of modern cosmology and astrophysics. Here are some key concepts and approaches used in the quest for understanding the cosmos: Observational Astronomy: Observing celestial objects and phenomena using telescopes and other instruments is a fundamental aspect of astronomy. This involves studying light emitted, absorbed, or reflected by celestial bodies to gather information about their composition, structure, and motion. Observations from ground-based telescopes, space telescopes (like the Hubble Space Telescope), and other instruments contribute to our understanding of the universe. Theoretical Models: Scientists develop theoretical models based on principles of physics and mathematics to explain observed phenomena and make predictions about unexplored aspects of the universe. These models can range from explaining the behavior of individual particles to describing the large-scale structure of the cosmos. Theoretical frameworks, such as the Standard Model of particle physics and the Lambda-CDM model of cosmology, guide our understanding of fundamental forces and the evolution of the universe. Particle Physics: Understanding the fundamental building blocks of matter and the forces that govern them is crucial for comprehending the universe's workings at the smallest scales. Particle accelerators, like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), allow scientists to recreate conditions present in the early universe and explore the fundamental particles that make up matter. Astrobiology: Exploring the potential for life beyond Earth is a captivating aspect of the quest to understand the universe. Astrobiology seeks to understand the conditions necessary for life to exist and whether other planets or celestial bodies might harbor life. The search for extraterrestrial life involves studying extremophiles on Earth, analyzing the atmospheres of exoplanets, and searching for signs of life in our own solar system. Cosmological Observations: Observations of the large-scale structure of the universe, such as the distribution of galaxies and the cosmic microwave background radiation, provide insights into the universe's origin, evolution, and composition. Techniques like red shift measurements help astronomers map the cosmic web and trace the expansion of the universe back in time. Gravitational Wave Astronomy: The recent detection of gravitational waves has opened a new window to the universe. Gravitational wave observatories, like LIGO and Virgo, allow scientists to observe events such as the collision of black holes and neutron stars, providing direct evidence of phenomena predicted by Einstein's theory of general relativity. Dark Matter and Dark Energy: Despite comprising a significant portion of the universe, dark matter and dark energy remain mysterious. Understanding these enigmatic components is essential for a complete picture of cosmic evolution. Experiments and observations aim to detect or constrain the properties of dark matter particles and understand the nature of dark energy driving the universe's accelerated expansion. By integrating these concepts and approaches, scientists work collaboratively to expand our knowledge of the universe. Technological advancements, theoretical breakthroughs, and innovative observational techniques continuously push the boundaries of what we can learn about the cosmos. As we gain a deeper understanding of the universe, new questions emerge, driving further exploration and discovery. In conclusion, the quest to better understand the nature of our universe is a multifaceted and profound endeavor with far-reaching implications. The knowledge gained not only fuels technological progress and addresses global challenges but also satisfies our innate curiosity about the cosmos. Through observational astronomy, theoretical models, particle physics, astrobiology, cosmological observations, gravitational wave astronomy, and the study of dark matter and dark energy, scientists employ a diverse set of ideas and concepts to unravel the mysteries of the universe. This ongoing exploration not only enriches our understanding of the cosmos but also inspires future generations to continue the pursuit of knowledge and exploration.
    Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Why do I love math? That is a very good question, math has been my favorite subject for as long as I can remember. I feel almost as if I get a high from solving equations and answering word problems. If I had to choose, geometry would be my favorite subject in math. In my opinion, which was not very popular in my high school geometry class, I've always enjoyed doing proofs, although some were very tricky, I always loved the challenge. I also enjoyed trigonometry, it was one of those things that just came to be naturally, and was so fun once I got the hang of it. I have always been the smartest in my honors classes, especially when it came to math, but to me, it's not just about being the smartest, it's about enjoying the subject you are learning, and mastering it. If I had to say the person who taught me to love math, it would've been my sixth and seventh-grade math teacher Mrs. Teresa Fann. She made math so fun and she was an amazing teacher. She always told me to be myself and that alone would take me anywhere I wanted to go in life. She was like my second mom, and after going all the way through Elementary school being bullied and hating school, she made me look forward to going to school, just for her class, and in all that I began to love math. Having a best friend for a teacher throughout middle school taught me that even though things don't always go your way if you have someone by your side everything will be okay. Our shared passion for math made us so much closer, and I just wanted to thank Mrs. Teresa for everything she has done for me, I know she would be so proud of me for how far I've come.
