Faith has been the guiding force in my life, shaping my values, decisions, and resilience. Through challenges, uncertainty, and growth, my belief in God has kept me grounded, giving me strength when I felt weak and direction when I felt lost. Coming back to college after a 10-year hiatus, balancing motherhood, entrepreneurship, and a full-time job in education, I know I would not be where I am today without God’s grace and guidance. From an early age, I was taught the importance of faith, hard work, and integrity—principles that I carry with me in everything I do. As a Black woman, a mother, and an entrepreneur, I have faced moments of doubt and fear, but my faith has reminded me that every step I take is part of a bigger purpose. Whether it was starting my own business, Lil Bit Cupcakery, or deciding to go back to school to build a better future for myself and my son, I have leaned on God to provide clarity, wisdom, and endurance. One of the biggest ways faith has shaped me is by teaching me perseverance. Life does not always go according to plan, and setbacks are inevitable, but I believe that with prayer, determination, and trust in God’s timing, I will always find a way forward. I’ve learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles meant to stop me. This mindset has allowed me to keep pushing, whether in my education, business, or personal life. As I pursue a career in hospitality, restaurant marketing, and project management, my faith will continue to serve as my moral compass. The hospitality industry thrives on service, leadership, and integrity, and I believe that success is not just about making a profit, but about making an impact. I want to create spaces where people feel valued, where businesses operate with honesty, and where communities are uplifted. One of my biggest career aspirations is to help restaurants and food businesses grow, particularly in underserved areas where access to quality dining and nutrition is limited. Faith teaches us to serve others, and I see my future in hospitality as a way to connect with people, support local businesses, and build opportunities for others. Whether it’s through restaurant consulting, marketing, or community initiatives, I want my work to reflect the values of honesty, compassion, and excellence. In addition to my career goals, I am also committed to mentorship and giving back. Just as this scholarship honors the legacy of immigrants who built a successful business from nothing, I want to inspire others—especially women, single parents, and aspiring entrepreneurs—to pursue their dreams with faith and perseverance. I know that success is not just about what we achieve for ourselves, but how we uplift others along the way. The journey of the pioneers honored by this scholarship resonates deeply with me. Like them, I come from a place of hard work, sacrifice, and resilience, and I know that faith and determination can turn dreams into reality. As I continue my education and build my career, I will always hold onto my faith, integrity, and commitment to serving others. I want my success to be a testament to God’s plan and a reflection of the values that have shaped me into the person I am today. With faith as my foundation, I know that no challenge is too great, no dream is too far, and no success is meaningful without integrity and purpose.
Vegan Teens Are The Future Scholarship
My decision to become a vegan was deeply personal and rooted in both health concerns and a desire for a stronger connection to myself and the world around me. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand how chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and various cancers (breast, pancreatic, and colon) affected my immediate family. These conditions, often linked to diet and lifestyle, motivated me to take a proactive approach to my health. I wanted to break the cycle and create a foundation of wellness not just for myself but for my 4-year-old son as well. As a Black woman, my journey to veganism is also about reclaiming my connection to the earth and honoring the traditions of plant-based nourishment that many of our ancestors relied upon. In a society where access to fresh, nutritious food is often limited in Black and underserved communities, making the conscious choice to embrace a plant-based lifestyle is both an act of self-care and empowerment. I wanted to move away from processed, unhealthy foods and fuel my body with whole, natural, and healing foods. For me, veganism is about more than just food—it’s about being intentional, mindful, and grounded in the choices I make for my body and spirit. One of my biggest motivations in this journey has been transitioning my 4-year-old son to a vegan lifestyle. I want to give him the best possible foundation for a healthy and fulfilling life. Children often adopt their parents' habits, and I want him to grow up with a deep appreciation for nutrient-dense foods, sustainability, and the ethical treatment of animals. By raising him in an environment that prioritizes health and conscious living, I hope to instill values that will benefit him for years to come. My passion for hospitality and restaurant marketing plays a major role in how I envision contributing to the vegan movement. As I pursue my degree and continue working in the industry, I plan to advocate for more plant-based options in restaurants, particularly in communities where access to vegan-friendly food is limited. Through menu development, restaurant consulting, and food marketing, I want to help make plant-based dining more accessible, appealing, and affordable. Additionally, my entrepreneurial background with my cake business, Lil Bit Cupcakery, has inspired me to explore vegan baking and introduce plant-based desserts that don’t compromise on taste or texture. Many people assume that going vegan means giving up their favorite comfort foods, but I want to challenge that belief by creating delicious, plant-based alternatives that encourage more people to try vegan options. Beyond business, I am also passionate about community education and outreach. Working with organizations like the Chocolate Mint Foundation Food Pantry, I’ve seen how food insecurity affects families. I want to help bridge the gap between plant-based eating and food access by providing education on affordable vegan meals and working with initiatives that make fresh produce and plant-based groceries more available in low-income areas. Ultimately, my goal is to use my education and experience in hospitality to create spaces where veganism is celebrated, accessible, and embraced. Whether through restaurant marketing, food advocacy, or my own business ventures, I want to be part of a movement that makes plant-based living not just a trend, but a sustainable lifestyle for future generations. By leading by example—both in my own life and in raising my son—I hope to inspire others to explore a healthier, more conscious way of eating and living.
Organic Formula Shop Single Parent Scholarship
In the quiet moments of the evening, when my son is tucked into bed and the world outside my window begins to settle into stillness, I find myself reflecting on the journey that has brought me to this point. As a single, young Black mother to a vibrant four-year-old son, my life is a whirlwind of responsibility, determination, and hope. Every day presents its own set of challenges, but it's the relentless pursuit of a better future for both myself and my child that keeps me moving forward. The combination of being a student and a single parent is one that comes with its own unique set of challenges. From balancing the demands of coursework with the responsibilities of parenting to navigating the financial strains of tuition fees and childcare costs, each day is a delicate balancing act. Yet, despite the obstacles that I face, I remain steadfast in my commitment to pursuing higher education and creating a better life for myself and my son. One of the most significant challenges that I face as a single parent is the constant struggle for time. With the demands of work, school, and parenting all vying for my attention, it can often feel like there simply aren't enough hours in the day to accomplish everything that needs to be done. Balancing the responsibilities of being a student with the demands of parenting requires meticulous planning and unwavering dedication. There are days when exhaustion threatens to overwhelm me, but I push through, fueled by the knowledge that every sacrifice is a step closer to achieving my dreams. Financial strain is another significant challenge that I face on a daily basis. As the sole provider for my family, I am acutely aware of the financial pressures that come with making ends meet in today's economy. Tuition fees, textbook costs, and childcare expenses all add up, leaving little room for financial flexibility. Yet, despite the financial hurdles that I face, I remain determined to pursue my education and build a better future for myself and my son. Owning and operating my own baking business is both a source of pride and a significant responsibility. It's a labor of love that allows me to express my creativity and provide for my family in a meaningful way. Yet, running a business while also working full-time and attending school presents its own set of challenges. There are days when exhaustion threatens to overwhelm me, but I push through, fueled by the knowledge that every sacrifice is a step closer to achieving my dreams. The opportunity presented by this scholarship is nothing short of a lifeline. By alleviating some of the financial burden associated with pursuing a college education, this scholarship would provide me with the support and resources needed to focus more fully on my studies and growing my business. It would ease the strain of balancing work and school, allowing me to devote more time and energy to each aspect of my life. Furthermore, this scholarship would not only benefit me but also pave the way for a brighter future for my son. Education has the power to break the cycle of poverty and open doors to new opportunities, and this scholarship would be a crucial step in that journey. By investing in my education, I am not only investing in my own future but also laying the foundation for a better life for my son. In conclusion, the combination of being a student and a single parent presents its own set of challenges, but it's a journey that I am committed to navigating with courage, determination, and resilience. This scholarship would provide much-needed support and encouragement, allowing me to continue pursuing my dreams and building a better future for my family. Thank you for considering my application.

My name is Bre, and I am a 29-year-old principal secretary at a collegiate academy in Dallas, Texas. I’m also currently in my first year of college, majoring in Hospitality after a 10-year break. Balancing my roles as a student, professional, and mom has shaped me into a resilient and creative individual, dedicated to making a positive impact on the world. One important social issue I am deeply passionate about is education equity. Working at a collegiate academy has given me a front-row seat to the disparities that exist in our education system. I witness firsthand the challenges that students from underprivileged backgrounds face in accessing quality education and resources. To address this, I actively support and initiate programs that provide additional tutoring, mentorship, and extracurricular activities for these students. I firmly believe that every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their socioeconomic status. In my professional role, I work closely with our school’s administration to identify and support students who need extra help. This includes coordinating with teachers to arrange after-school tutoring sessions and setting up mentorship programs where students can receive guidance and encouragement from more experienced peers and adults. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, we can help bridge the gap and provide all students with the tools they need to succeed. Beyond my professional responsibilities, I am also an entrepreneurial baker. What started as a hobby has grown into a small business, where I have found a way to combine my love for baking with my desire to make a positive impact. I regularly collaborate with local organizations to host baking workshops for children and teens. These workshops are designed not only to teach baking skills but also to inspire creativity, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment. It is incredibly rewarding to see young people gain confidence and discover new interests through these activities. My passion for education and creativity extends to advocating for diverse learning methods. As a kinesthetic learner myself, I understand the struggles that come with traditional teaching methods. I promote hands-on learning experiences and creative teaching techniques that engage students who might otherwise struggle. For example, I have organized interactive science fairs, art projects, and practical workshops that cater to different learning styles. By doing so, I aim to make education more inclusive and effective for all students. Returning to college after a significant break has been a transformative experience. It has not only allowed me to pursue my dreams but also to set an example for my son and other non-traditional students. I want to show that it is never too late to invest in your future and further your education. This journey has taught me the value of perseverance and the importance of lifelong learning, and I hope to inspire others to take that leap. In addition to my educational and entrepreneurial efforts, I am deeply involved in community service. I volunteer at local shelters and food banks, helping to provide meals and support to those in need. This work has reinforced my belief in the importance of giving back to the community and has shown me the profound impact that even small acts of kindness can have. In all my efforts, my goal is to create a more equitable and inspiring educational environment. I am committed to making a difference in my community, one student and one initiative at a time. Through my work in education, my entrepreneurial endeavors, and my advocacy for diverse learning methods, I strive to create positive change and empower others to achieve their full potential.
