Bio

I am an aspiring STEM student hoping to improve electrical innovations. Also strongly passionate about arts and equality. I am a hard-working high school senior committed to my success. I have taken multiple AP, honors, and GATE courses in hopes of pursuing my dreams. Consequently, I have been admitted into UCSD. A popular location with high living expenses and tuition. Unfortunately, I only received one cal grant in means of financial aid. Thus, any dollar matters.

Numbers make the world go round! Every surrounding item has calculations involved. Whether it be how much stuffing in a pillow or how many volts in a circuit, data is required. All of which falls under the subject of STEM. Subjects that truly inspire me with its real world applications and level of thinking. STEM truly is interesting as it offers a variety of solutions for everyday problems and coincides with multiple subjects. Such as mathematics, science, technology, engineering and more. All of which play pivotal roles in our world. For example, through the completion of an equation NASA was able to send astronauts to space. This is why science in math is so valuable to master. Of course it can be tricky and even frustrating but it creates determination and problem solving skills. That same innovative thinking is why I continue to master the subject through an additional career program. Currently taking robotic engineering classes I am introduced to new formulas and ways of math that help to run circuits. Conquering the math used in engineering would not only benefit my skill, but open new opportunities. My ideas and knowledge taken from these classes and future college courses may be the next big thing. Who knows, what if I solve the equation for efficient surgical robots? The vision may be absurd now, but definitely is possible once all factors are mastered. Thus, emphasizing why it is important that I continue to learn more about the subject. Additionally, as of now I am working on a specific project for my robotic class. I out of 20 students was selected with one other to create a program that runs an industrial robot to decorate a cake. The purpose of the project is to help those with disabilities. I met a current student at the ROC career program taking culinary arts. It gets difficult for him to manipulate tools to create wonderful pastries. That is why the completion of this project is important. We hope to be successful and help make following his passion in baking easier for him. My level of determination is high, and I know that I will be able to make the idea come true with the help of my partner. This is only one example of my societal upbringings. While I continue to master my knowledge in the STEM field new opportunities will come. As my creativity is consistently being developed, new ambitions and ideas will motivate me to continue pursuing societal benefits. Creating new projects can be costly and take a long while to accumulate the money and materials needed, however this delays completion and creates worry depending on the severity of the project. Of course, I am capable of taking on any obstacle especially financially within time. However, with the support of this scholarship, bringing my ideas to reality will become easier and quicker for the benefit of my environment and those around me.

I, out of 20 students was selected with one other female student to create a program that runs an industrial robot to decorate a cake. Through the process of achieving our goal, I've learned the importance of female perspective in a male dominated field. The STEM field rarely has any females In the industry due to the fear of others opinions and possibly being belittled. However, being a female STEM student has only strengthened my will and driven my motivation to prove the equity I deserve. While working with my partner, I have come to the conclusion that females only add to the STEM field revealing why it is important society continued to encourage interested females. As I continue to master my knowledge in the STEM field new opportunities constantly arise. My creativity is consistently being developed and new ambitions have driven me towards continuing pursuing the STEM field. With the support of this scholarship, the possibility of my innovations bringing benefit to the modern world is increased. Overall supporting the positive upbringing females provide in the STEM society.

Why pursue passion that harms you? Since middle school I eyed the top high-school color guards. My current school happened to be one, Golden Valley High. Their talent, expression, and professionalism carried them to becoming the best in the county competing for state champions. I made the team with lots of hard work and dedication. I enjoyed every second of it. Until it all completely plummeted. Junior year I was targeted, discriminated, and disrespected, overwhelming my mental health. Spiraling into a deep depressive state of anxiety. The pettiness of a “role model” lowered my self esteem. Starting school mornings arguing with the band director trying to defend my name, I lost myself. School became a second priority for me that I considered dropping out. Anger built in me towards the world and I started isolating myself. Fortunately I didn't allow my grades to drop too much but I did lack effort. I finally decided to seek help, attending therapy weekly while relying on medication for anxiety. With no choice but to focus on myself, I quit. Free from the hands of toxicity, my love for guard remained. After I quit I focused more so on myself. I had to spend every day reminding myself of the truth and where I stood. Constantly reassuring myself I was able to build my confidence up again. I got out of bed and took walks. I kept myself active. I didn't allow myself to mope around any longer. Now with color-guard off my shoulders, I decided to prioritize school in order to work towards my career. Currently taking robotic engineering classes I have been introduced to new formulas and ways of math that help to run electrical circuits. Conquering the math used in electrical engineering has benefited my skills and opened new opportunities. I have built confidence in my work, and know that my ideas have potential in benefiting the world. Generally stating that the knowledge taken from these classes and future college courses will be the next big thing. As I am on the brink of starting my career, I now spend my time coding and working with industrial robots. I’ve discovered a new side of myself. One that considers my intelligence and all that I’ve learned through the years. Coding and working with robotics will be my future. The world is slowly changing its ways towards technology. By being supported financially I will be given the opportunity to better the technology of the world.

I’ve always been perceived to be a “sensitive crybaby.” For much of my early teens, I never understood why I felt such strong emotions and hurt so passionately. Now that I’m older and been able to open my eyes to the reality of my relationships I’ve constructed a high level of emotional intelligence. This knowledge came as a result of my emotionally absent father. As a child of divorced parents, I suffered as a kid. My parents divorced before I turned 3, after my fathers marine service. The absence of my biological father affected me regardless of how hard I tried to avoid it. With this in mind, I found it very hard to develop proper relationships with my peers, as I was never taught how to be treated properly. Despite the distance I was able to keep in touch with my father. Spending summers together ‘bonding.’ However, his physical presence was not enough. Our lack of an emotional connection caused my father to feel like a stranger. It was very unfulfilling to my inner child knowing my father was not someone I could turn to emotionally. Eventually growing tired of loving from a distance, I decided to take the courage to build an emotional connection with my dad. Naturally I gathered information on my parents' relationship from beginning to end. The difference in my father’s personality amazed me. It was nearly impossible for me to picture him being so sweet. With that, I gained an emotional understanding of my father leading to my attempts in deepening our bond. In the beginning it was very unusual seeing my father so vulnerable considering I had only seen his guard high with an irritable manner. Experiencing him openly expressing his feelings caught me off guard entirely. So I ran from furthering our emotional bond. I was not ready to face our differences nor ready to confess my discontent. To this day, I have not been able to confess everything in regards to his lack of being a father. Nevertheless, progress has been made. Occasionally I will reach out to my dad just to talk to him. As we keep in touch he’s been supporting me in furthering my education. Sometimes we go out to dinners to simply catch up and build on our connection. It’s taken a lot of time, days, months, years but it's comforting to say that we’re getting there. My inner child is now starting to open her arms once again, and live life with ease. That “sensitive cry baby” was not what everyone attempted to define her as. But rather a girl missing the love of her dad. My personal development of emotional intelligence bettered my relationships allowing me to feel comfortable standing my ground with anyone attempting to take advantage of my being. Proudly now being able to say, I’ve become a strong advocate for myself and finally built an emotional connection with my dad.
