Growing up, I watched my mom come home in her scrubs, sometimes exhausted, sometimes emotional, but always fulfilled by the work she had done as a nurse. Seeing the impact she made on people’s lives, how she comforted patients, supported families, and remained calm in stressful situations, left a lasting impression on me. My mom wasn’t just clocking in and out of a job; she was making a difference every single day. Watching her inspired me not only to admire the medical field but to want to be a part of it. Her strength, kindness, and dedication showed me what it truly means to care for others, and I knew early on that I wanted to follow in her footsteps.
I’ve always had a natural desire to help people. Whether it was offering support to friends going through tough times or volunteering in my community, I’ve found purpose in being someone others can count on. That sense of fulfillment only grows when I imagine myself working in healthcare, being able to help people not just emotionally, but physically and mentally as well. It’s one thing to want to do good in the world, but being in the medical field gives you a direct and meaningful way to change lives for the better. That’s what motivates me.
My goal is to become a nurse practitioner because I want to be involved in every step of a patient’s care, from listening to their concerns to diagnosing, treating, and educating them about their health. I believe that healthcare is about more than just medicine; it’s about trust, communication, and compassion. As a nurse practitioner, I’ll be able to build lasting relationships with my patients, truly get to know them, and support them not only through illness but through every stage of their health journey. That kind of personal connection is what I value most.
I also want to serve in communities where healthcare is harder to access. I’ve seen how lack of resources can impact people’s health, and I want to be someone who helps bridge that gap. Just like my mom did and continues to do, I want to show up for people when they need someone most, especially those who may not have many options. I want to make a difference the way she does: by being reliable, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring.
Pursuing a career in the medical field isn’t just a decision, it’s a commitment to being there for others at their most vulnerable moments. My mom inspired me to choose this path, and my passion for helping others drives me forward. I plan to make a difference by treating every patient with respect, empathy, and dedication, because everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and cared for. I’m excited to begin this journey and committed to becoming the kind of nurse practitioner who changes lives, one patient at a time.

Beacon of Light Scholarship
From a young age, I have been inspired by my mother, who is a dedicated and compassionate nurse. Watching her care for others with patience, empathy, and strength sparked my initial interest in healthcare. I remember countless times when she would come home after long shifts, exhausted but still smiling because she had made a difference in someone’s life. That impact, that purpose, stuck with me. It taught me that healthcare isn’t just a job, it’s a calling. Seeing her ability to connect with patients on both a medical and emotional level made me realize how powerful this profession truly is. Because of her, I developed a deep admiration for the work nurses do and a desire to one day follow in her footsteps.
In addition to being inspired by my mom, I’ve always had a strong desire to help people. Whether it was volunteering at local events, assisting friends and family during difficult times, or offering support to classmates, I’ve found fulfillment in being someone others can rely on. I believe that working in healthcare is one of the most meaningful ways to make a lasting impact. It allows you to be part of someone’s healing process, to offer comfort during vulnerable moments, and to use your skills to improve someone’s quality of life. That combination of science, compassion, and service is exactly what draws me to this field.
My goal is to become a nurse practitioner, a career path that will allow me to take my passion for helping others to the next level. Nurse practitioners not only provide advanced care, but they also build long-term relationships with patients and have the ability to educate, diagnose, and treat. I am especially interested in working in underserved communities, where access to healthcare is limited and the need for skilled, compassionate providers is high. I want to be a part of closing that gap and ensuring that everyone, regardless of their background, can receive the care they deserve.
Ultimately, I am pursuing a career in healthcare because I want to make a difference in people’s lives every single day. My mother planted the seed, and my own experiences and values have nurtured it into a clear and determined goal. Becoming a nurse practitioner will not only fulfill my dream but also allow me to serve others with purpose and heart. I am excited to begin this journey and committed to putting in the hard work it takes to turn my passion into a lifelong career.
William Griggs Memorial Scholarship for Science and Math
I am someone who is deeply motivated by the desire to help others, especially in times of need. Although I have always had an interest in science, particularly the fields of health and medicine, my drive to pursue nursing stems from a personal place. My mom, who is a Director of Nursing, has been a constant source of inspiration. Seeing the work she does in healthcare has shown me the profound impact that compassionate care can have on people’s lives. I am inspired by her dedication to the field and her ability to support others, not just through medical knowledge, but also through empathy, kindness, and understanding.
Growing up, I was always drawn to the idea of making a difference in people’s lives, particularly in healthcare. There’s something deeply fulfilling about knowing that you have helped someone in a time of vulnerability or suffering. Whether it's a physical ailment or emotional distress, seeing people struggle is something I personally can’t ignore. I’ve always felt driven to help others, and nursing allows me to use my skills and compassion to address both the physical and emotional aspects of people’s well-being.
My mom’s career in nursing has been a direct influence on my decision to follow this path. As the Director of Nursing, she has shown me the balance between leadership and direct patient care. Through her example, I’ve learned that nursing is not just about providing medical treatments—it’s about being there for patients, advocating for them, and offering them the emotional support they need to heal. It’s about making sure they feel seen, heard, and cared for, regardless of their situation. I admire how my mom combines her vast knowledge of healthcare with her ability to connect with patients and their families on a personal level, and I want to carry forward that same compassion and commitment to the profession.
In addition to being inspired by my mom, I have developed a strong sense of empathy for those who are suffering. The idea of alleviating pain, offering comfort, and helping others through difficult times is incredibly important to me. I am determined to pursue a career in nursing, where I can provide the support and care people need during their most vulnerable moments.
While I haven’t yet had formal medical experience, I have been involved in volunteer work at the nursing home where my mom works. This has allowed me to interact with patients, assist with daily activities, and provide companionship. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see firsthand how meaningful even small acts of kindness can be in a healthcare setting. This volunteer work has strengthened my resolve to pursue nursing and has provided me with an early look into the importance of compassionate care.
Ultimately, I aim to contribute to the field of nursing by bringing my passion for helping others, my drive to alleviate suffering, and my dedication to providing excellent care. I believe that my desire to make a positive impact on people’s lives, combined with the inspiration I’ve received from my mom, will help me make a difference in the world of nursing.
Community Health Ambassador Scholarship for Nursing Students
I have always been drawn to the healthcare field, and my decision to pursue a degree in nursing stems from both a deep personal connection and a strong desire to help others. My mom, who is a Director of Nursing, has been a significant inspiration in my life. Watching her dedicate herself to providing compassionate and skilled care to those in need has made a lasting impact on me. Her role as a leader in the nursing field has shown me that nursing is not just about providing medical care, but also about advocating for patients, being a source of comfort, and making a real difference in people's lives. I want to follow in her footsteps and contribute to the healthcare community in a similar way.
Nursing is a profession that combines technical expertise with emotional intelligence, and this balance is something I deeply admire. My mom’s ability to manage both the clinical and emotional aspects of care has inspired me to pursue a career that allows me to help individuals on their most vulnerable days. Watching her interact with patients, providing them with both medical care and a compassionate presence, has taught me the importance of being there for people in their times of need. Her example has instilled in me the values of empathy, responsibility, and respect for others, all of which I aim to carry with me as I pursue my nursing career.
Beyond my personal connection to the profession, I have always been passionate about helping others and contributing to my community. One of the ways I’ve been doing this is by volunteering at the nursing home where my mom works. This experience has given me a firsthand look at the impact that quality care can have on individuals and families. While volunteering, I’ve had the opportunity to interact with residents, assist with daily activities, and provide companionship to those who often experience loneliness or isolation. These interactions have shown me the profound difference that a nurse can make in someone’s life, even in non-medical situations. I’ve seen how small acts of kindness, a smile, or a moment of attention can make someone feel valued and cared for.
As I continue to volunteer and gain experience, my ultimate goal is to contribute to my community as a nurse who not only provides excellent clinical care but also takes the time to truly connect with my patients. I hope to bring the same compassion and dedication to the nursing profession that I’ve witnessed in my mom’s work. By pursuing a degree in nursing, I aim to build the knowledge and skills necessary to provide high-quality care, while also remaining mindful of the emotional and psychological well-being of those I serve.
Through my future career in nursing, I want to contribute to my community by being a source of support for individuals who are dealing with health challenges. I envision myself not only caring for patients’ physical needs but also helping them feel heard, understood, and cared for in every aspect of their well-being. As I continue my education and volunteer work, I am eager to make a positive impact on those around me, following the example of my mom and becoming a compassionate, skilled nurse who truly makes a difference in the lives of others.

The nursing industry has always intrigued me, not only because of its essential role in healthcare but also because of the compassion and care that it embodies. Growing up, I was fortunate to have a strong role model in my mother, who has been a dedicated nurse for many years. Watching her work firsthand has deeply influenced my decision to pursue a career in nursing. My mom’s ability to connect with her patients, offer emotional support, and provide excellent care has shaped my understanding of the nursing profession, and it is her example that inspires me to follow in her footsteps.
My goal is to become a nurse practitioner (NP) in the future. I’m particularly interested in this advanced role because it combines my passion for healthcare with the opportunity to have a more significant impact on patients' lives. As an NP, I would be able to provide not only clinical care but also build lasting relationships with patients and their families, offering both medical expertise and emotional support. I want to have a deeper understanding of health and wellness, enabling me to provide holistic care and help manage patients’ long-term health, particularly in a primary care setting.
In my journey toward becoming a nurse practitioner, I have already taken steps to gain experience and develop my understanding of patient care. One of the most valuable experiences I’ve had is volunteering at the nursing home where my mom works. This volunteer work has given me the opportunity to see how nursing care is provided to elderly patients, many of whom are dealing with complex health conditions. I’ve had the chance to observe the incredible impact that nurses have on their patients, not only through medical treatments but also through emotional support and compassionate care. Seeing my mom work with her patients, offering reassurance and creating a calm, caring environment, has reinforced my desire to pursue nursing as a career.
In addition to volunteering, I have also worked in the kitchen at the nursing home, which has given me a unique perspective on patient care from a different angle. While my role in the kitchen was not clinical, I was able to interact with residents on a daily basis. Many of them were dealing with health challenges that required careful attention to their diets, and I was able to see the importance of creating an environment where patients feel cared for and respected in all aspects of their lives. The relationships I formed with the residents, even in a non-medical capacity, helped me understand the significance of building trust and offering kindness to people in vulnerable situations.
These experiences have shaped my vision for a successful career in nursing and as a nurse practitioner. I have learned that it’s not just the technical skills that make a great nurse—it’s the ability to provide compassionate care and treat every patient with respect and dignity. As I continue to pursue my goal of becoming a nurse practitioner, I’m confident that the experiences I’ve had, the example set by my mom, and my passion for helping others will guide me toward a fulfilling and successful career.

Compassion is a cornerstone of nursing, and throughout my life, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing this firsthand through my mom, who has been a nurse for many years. Her compassionate nature and dedication to her patients have shaped my understanding of what it truly means to care for others, especially in vulnerable moments. Whether she’s treating patients with chronic illnesses or comforting those facing terminal conditions, my mom always approaches her work with a deep sense of empathy and kindness that transcends medical care.
I’ve seen how she treats each patient not just as a case, but as an individual with unique needs and emotions. I remember one particular instance when she was caring for an elderly patient who was suffering from advanced dementia. The patient had become anxious and agitated, which is common in such situations, and her family members were struggling to cope with the emotional toll. My mom went out of her way to calm the patient, speaking gently to her and holding her hand, even though it was difficult to get through to her. Over time, she developed a special bond with this patient, always taking the extra time to make her feel safe and understood. It wasn’t just the medical care that made a difference; it was the compassion she showed through every interaction, making the patient feel seen and valued despite the challenges of her condition.
My mom's example has inspired me greatly, and it’s one of the main reasons I want to become a nurse myself, especially working with children. Compassion, I’ve learned, isn’t just about providing the necessary treatments; it’s about making someone feel supported emotionally and mentally as well as physically. Seeing how my mom’s kindness can help both patients and their families navigate some of the toughest times in their lives has taught me that true nursing is about connecting with people on a human level.
To further prepare myself for a nursing career, I’ve sought opportunities to gain experience and deepen my understanding of patient care. One such opportunity was working in the kitchen at a local nursing home. Though I wasn’t directly involved in patient care, I interacted with many of the residents and had the chance to observe firsthand how important compassion is in healthcare settings. I saw how the staff, from nurses to kitchen aides, treated the residents with kindness and respect. It wasn’t just about serving food; it was about acknowledging each resident’s individuality and providing care with a smile and a kind word. The personal connections I made with the residents, even in a simple capacity like serving meals, showed me how vital it is to offer emotional support and treat people with dignity, especially those who may be feeling isolated or vulnerable.
This experience had a profound effect on me, reinforcing my desire to work in healthcare and to treat every person I encounter with the same compassion and respect I’ve seen in my mom. It also gave me a deeper appreciation for the many different ways that care can be provided—whether it’s through direct medical attention or simply offering a comforting presence. The interactions I witnessed and participated in reminded me that every person deserves kindness and empathy, no matter their age, illness, or situation. This understanding will guide me as I pursue a career in nursing, particularly in pediatric care, where compassion is just as essential as technical skill in creating a positive and healing environment for children and their families.
Kelly O. Memorial Nursing Scholarship
From a young age, I’ve been deeply interested in the field of healthcare, and over time, this curiosity has evolved into a strong passion for nursing, specifically pediatric nursing. My inspiration to pursue a career in this field comes from my mother, who is a dedicated nurse. Observing her work has provided me with a unique and invaluable perspective on the importance of compassionate care and the vital role nurses play in the healthcare system.
Growing up, I often saw my mom juggle the challenges of nursing with grace and empathy. Whether she was comforting patients during difficult moments or ensuring that medical procedures were carried out safely and efficiently, her ability to connect with people made a lasting impression on me. I was particularly struck by how she could work with such a wide range of patients—adults, children, and the elderly—and make each one feel understood, valued, and cared for. Her approach showed me that nursing is not just about medical expertise; it’s about empathy, communication, and building trust with patients and their families.
This has inspired me to pursue pediatric nursing specifically. Children face unique challenges when it comes to healthcare, and I want to be part of a team that supports them through those challenges. Whether it’s managing a chronic condition, recovering from an illness, or undergoing a medical procedure, children need not only medical treatment but also emotional support and comfort. I believe that pediatric nursing combines my desire to help others with my love for working with kids. There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing that you’ve made a child feel safer, less anxious, and more supported during a difficult time in their life. I want to be that person who can bring comfort and reassurance to children and their families when they need it most.
To prepare for this journey, I’ve spent considerable time learning from my mom’s experiences. She has taught me so much about the qualities that make a great nurse, including the importance of patience, attention to detail, and emotional resilience. In addition to this, I’ve actively sought out opportunities to volunteer at local healthcare settings. This hands-on experience has allowed me to observe patient care firsthand and gain a deeper understanding of the healthcare environment. Whether I was helping with administrative tasks or interacting with patients and their families, I learned valuable skills that will help me as I move forward in my nursing career.
Looking ahead, I am committed to continuing my education and seeking out opportunities to specialize in pediatric nursing. I plan to immerse myself in courses and training that will help me develop the specialized knowledge needed to care for children effectively. I am excited to work alongside experienced professionals in the field and to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and their families. With the inspiration of my mom and my passion for helping others, I’m confident that pediatric nursing is the path for me.
Big Heart Scholarship
From a young age, I have been deeply moved by my moms dedication as a nurse at a local nursing home. Her commitment to providing exceptional care has profoundly influenced my understanding of compassion and service. Inspired by her, I want to contribute meaningfully by securing a position at the same facility, assisting in the kitchen .
In my role, I quickly realized that my responsibilities extended beyond the tasks at hand. The nursing home was not just a workplace. It was a community filled with individuals longing for connection. Many residents had few or no loved ones to visit them, leading to feelings of isolation. I made it my mission to bridge this gap, understanding that even the smallest gestures could have a significant impact.
A simple “hello” or a warm smile often brought light to each and every residents day resident’s day. Engaging in conversations, listening to their stories, and acknowledging their experiences fostered a sense of belonging and validation. These interactions show me the importance of empathy in caregiving. Something I always live by when I am speaking to the patients is this quote; “They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel”. No matter how rough of a day I am having I will never lack respect and happiness to the patients.
One resident, Wayne, particularly touched my heart. Confined to his room due to mobility and mental issues, he often appeared miserable. I made it a point to talk to him daily, sharing stories and listening to his life experiences. Wayne would sit every day and wait for me to bring him snacks. He would often make comments like “don’t talk to me today”, however I would still say hello because I feel he truly did not mean it. It would be hard to be nice when you are trapped into a room all day and only want to go home. I would give Wayne motivation to never give up every day ( mostly from the snacks I would give him) and reminding him that he needs to work hard so he can get home soon. Wayne is now home.
These experiences have ignited a passion within me to pursue a career in nursing. I am driven by a commitment to suppress the suffering of others and to bring comfort to those in their most vulnerable moments. The thought of patients enduring pain or loneliness is unbearable, and I am determined to dedicate my life to ensuring they receive the care they deserve.
In my journey, I have learned that creating a safer and more inclusive environment requires actions and heartfelt choices. By treating each individual with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances, you foster a sense of belonging and security.
Reflecting on these experiences, I recognize that my path has been shaped by a series of heartfelt choices and interactions with patients that I will never forget. Guided by the values instilled in me by my mom and the lessons learned through my interactions with the nursing home residents, I am committed to a future in nursing. I aspire to carry the compassion and dedication that my mom has, striving to create a world where every individual feels valued, cared for, and included.
Love Island Fan Scholarship
Challenge: "Cupid's Quest"
Objective: To test the couples' knowledge about each other and strengthen their bonds through a series of romantic and fun activities.
1. Couple's Quiz: Each couple sits back-to-back. They are asked a series of questions about their partner (e.g., "What's their favorite movie?", "What's their biggest fear?", "What's their dream vacation destination?"). For each correct answer, the couple earns a point. This part of the challenge helps to see how well they know each other.
2. Blindfolded Taste Test: One partner is blindfolded while the other feeds them different foods. The blindfolded partner has to guess what they are tasting. This activity is not only fun but also helps build trust and reliance on each other.
3. Love Letters: Each partner writes a heartfelt letter to their significant other. They then read these letters out loud to each other in front of the other islanders. This part of the challenge encourages emotional expression and deepening of their connection.
4. Obstacle Course: Couples must navigate through an obstacle course while holding hands. The course includes activities like crawling under nets, jumping over hurdles, and balancing on beams. This physical challenge requires teamwork and communication.
5. Truth or Dare: Couples take turns picking from a bowl of truth or dare slips. The truths are designed to reveal more about their feelings and thoughts, while the dares are fun activities that might push them out of their comfort zones (e.g., "Give your partner a piggyback ride around the villa," "Share your most embarrassing moment").
6. Final Dance: The challenge ends with a romantic dance under the stars. Each couple has to perform a dance routine they’ve choreographed together. This not only brings a sense of fun and creativity but also allows them to connect on a deeper level through movement.
The couple with the most points at the end of all the activities wins a special romantic date night, complete with a candlelit dinner and a private area in the villa to enjoy each other's company. This challenge is designed to bring out the best in each couple, fostering stronger relationships and creating memorable moments.
GUTS- Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
Olivia Rodrigo's song "vampire" from her album "GUTS" features a poignant lyric that resonates deeply with many teenagers: "The way you sold me for parts, as you sunk your teeth into me." This line encapsulates the essence of adolescence, a period marked by intense emotional experiences and the challenges that come with them.
The lyric speaks to the feeling of betrayal, a common theme in teenage life. Adolescence is a time when individuals are forming their identities and building relationships, both of which can be fraught with vulnerability. The metaphor of being "sold for parts" and having someone "sink their teeth into you" vividly describes the pain of being used or taken advantage of by someone you trusted. This can happen in friendships, romantic relationships, or even within family dynamics. The raw emotion conveyed in this lyric highlights how deeply such experiences can affect a young person, shaping their views on trust and self-worth. Betrayal during these formative years can leave lasting scars, making it difficult to fully trust others in the future.
Furthermore, this lyric captures the struggle of navigating complex emotions during adolescence. Teenagers often face a whirlwind of feelings, from joy and excitement to sadness and anger. The intensity of these emotions can be overwhelming, making it difficult to process and understand them. The imagery of being torn apart and consumed by someone else's actions mirrors the internal turmoil that many adolescents experience. It reflects the challenge of dealing with emotional pain while trying to maintain a sense of self. The teenage years are a critical time for self-discovery, and experiences of betrayal can significantly impact one's journey toward understanding and accepting oneself.
In addition, the lyric "The way you sold me for parts, as you sunk your teeth into me" also touches on the theme of exploitation. Adolescents are often in a vulnerable position as they seek acceptance and validation from their peers. This quest for belonging can sometimes lead to situations where they are taken advantage of or manipulated. The metaphor of being "sold for parts" suggests a dehumanizing experience, where one's value is reduced to what can be extracted by others. This can lead to feelings of worthlessness and a diminished sense of self-esteem, which are common struggles during adolescence.
In conclusion, Olivia Rodrigo's lyric from "vampire" powerfully captures the essence of adolescence and the challenges that come with it. The feelings of betrayal, emotional intensity, and exploitation described in the song are universal experiences for many teenagers. Through her music, Rodrigo provides a voice for these struggles, offering comfort and understanding to those navigating the tumultuous journey of growing up. Her ability to articulate these complex emotions resonates with listeners, making her music a source of solace and connection for young people facing similar challenges.
