I'm an undergraduate student at UNCG pursuing a degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. I'm formerly an international business student who changed majors because social work aligned closer with my career goals. I'm also going to attend graduate school to attain licensure. I am going to serve those who have been, or are currently, in abusive environments or dysfunctional households. I have personal experiences of extensive sexual abuse throughout my entire childhood that I have overcome by the grace of God. I desire to turn what was once trauma into advocacy and help for others of all ages. I also want to support those who are facing hardship in their lives while still trying to push through. I lost both of my parents within months of each other back in 2021, and the subsequent events delayed my college journey. I eventually had to transfer schools (originally attended UNCC in '19 and transferred to UNCG in '22), take care of my brother, become accountable for assets left behind by my parents, recooperate from a huge blow to my GPA and recently exhausted my financial aid. I'm hoping to secure these scholarships so I can finish school with a degree in hand. With all I've endured, I understand the importance of extending grace and giving someone a chance. I want to be in a position to do that for others who are trying to do better for themselves and for those around them.
