Music has always been a significant part of my life, serving as a refuge and a source of inspiration. Among the myriad of artists whose work has touched me, Chappell Roan stands out. Her music, with its raw emotion and powerful lyrics, has profoundly impacted my growth and career aspirations. It is through her songs that I found the courage and clarity to pursue my dream of becoming an accountant. Chappell Roan's music speaks to the heart, encapsulating the struggles, triumphs, and nuances of human experience. One song that particularly resonates with me is "Pink Pony Club." The song's themes of self-acceptance and the celebration of individuality have been instrumental in shaping my self-confidence. Roan’s ability to convey such deep emotions through her music has taught me the importance of authenticity and resilience—qualities that are essential in any career, including accounting.
Listening to her music during my high school years, I often found solace and motivation in her lyrics. Her songs became a soundtrack to my late-night study sessions and long hours of preparation for exams. The emotional support I derived from her music helped me stay focused and driven, even when the coursework became challenging. Greer Innovation, A Scholarship For Creatives
Let us talk about how my experience with creativity has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career goals and aspirations. However, it would benefit those who can see this to know more about myself. My name is Brayden Van De Water. I grew up in Racine, Wisconsin, for my whole life and plan to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall.
In my free time, I enjoy practicing basketball on my own. This usually occurs after school when I can get into my high school gym and get up a couple hundred shots. Lifting weights is another activity that I love to do. I wake up at five to fifteen a.m. to go to the gym and lift weights to start my day. Starting my day by getting the blood flowing allows for the rest of my day to be productive and filled with energy. Now that we know more about me, let us understand how being creative influences your beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations. No matter what I am doing, I always like to find new and faster ways to get tasks done. I work at Kwik Trip in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and during my shift, I have a list of things that need to be done before I leave. Each shift, I time myself to get tasks like cleaning the coffee bar or filling up sauces and other condiments as fast as possible while still doing it to a certain standard. This may seem so small when discussing how the impact will affect the world. However, it is an opportunity to find a faster way and then share that knowledge with my coworkers, who then would share it with them. I plan on doing the same thing when I grow up and become an accountant. Being able to look through numbers and try to solve or find problems through different equations and formulas may sound mind-numbing for most, but I find it creative, like painting or drawing. I compare it to painting because, in the being, you have a bunch of numbers, which is like the paintbrush and painting with only one end goal in mind: to find the missing money or finish the painting. This impacts the world by helping families and other local businesses obtain the most money back from their taxes and other business operations. These extra funds could help pay rent and their employees to better help them provide for their families. This dream of helping others seems far-fetched to me right now, as I am writing this scholarship in my seventh set study hall on the last day I can.
Still, even at Shoreland Lutheran High School, where I currently attend, they can do better to increase engagement when it comes to learning for each student. As technology improves and students' attention spans decrease, teaching the same way they taught my father and his father is not the best, most efficient way of doing it. I stand by the saying "The Hand is the instrument of intelligence…" – May River Montessori. Looking at screens all day drains the body and mind where, whereas using your hands keeps your mind and body both occupied while still getting that education that is vital for a young man or woman nowadays. As we as a generation move forward, so should how we innovate and learn with the ability to be creative in doing such tasks.
