Music has always been a sanctuary for me, a soothing melody in challenging times that can calm even the most frayed nerves. In those moments of solitude, I find profound peace surrounded by the delicate dance of music notes on the page before me. My passion for music is so deep that I feel compelled to share its incredible power and emotions with others. This drive has led me to aspire to study music education in college, where I hope to inspire and teach those who share my love for this art form. This passion is not just a hobby but a calling that I believe can transform lives, including my own, as I delve deeper into its complexities and wonders. As the prospect of college looms closer, I am becoming acutely aware of the financial burden it entails. I plan to dedicate at least four years to earning my bachelor’s degree at the University of Southern Mississippi, with the possibility of extending my studies to pursue a master’s degree, depending on the costs involved. While I may have secured some scholarships from the college, I still face a significant financial gap to cover the first four years. Throughout high school, I have held various jobs to save for college, yet the funds remain insufficient. The financial aspect is daunting, but I am determined to overcome these obstacles through hard work, perseverance, and perhaps additional financial aid opportunities. In addition to my academic pursuits, I am eager to immerse myself in as many musical ensembles as possible, such as Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International, and those offered by my future college. However, participation in DCI and WGI comes with its own financial demands, reaching up to $5,000, yet these experiences are invaluable for an aspiring music teacher. I have recently applied to a drum corps, hoping to gain these experiences and deepen my passion for music. Although I am new to corps life, I am confident that my goals will soar as I hone my skills, deepen my musical values, and enhance my sense of responsibility. These experiences will not only enrich my musical abilities but also prepare me for the challenges and rewards of teaching music. Music is a passion that thrives when shared with others, and I believe this is what makes it truly enjoyable. Sharing music with friends, family, and the community offers a way to relax and revel in the sounds and emotions it conveys. It is a mutually enriching experience for both performers and audiences, providing a moment for the world to pause and appreciate the soothing, rhythmic melodies. This sharing of music creates connections and fosters a sense of belonging, which is why I am so committed to pursuing a career in music education.

Music is a huge topic that is highly important to me. I enjoy it so much that there have been times when I seem to lose track of time and become so focused on it that it blocks out all other interactions. I've had a very good experience with music through my participation in my high school's marching band, symphonic band, jazz band, indoor percussion group, and, most recently, choir. High school marching band has definitely used a lot of my time, skills, and especially leadership, and has helped me become the person I am today: kind, smart, caring, and respectful. Working together has always been a top priority when I led my section at my high school. It's difficult, but I make sure that it is attainable, for without teamwork, there is no team.
My experiences will help me in life and assist me in creating new connections and eventually a steady career in the future. I love learning and performing music for others in my community. It's great for making me better as a person and as a musician. I feel that music helps in tough situations and can calm anyone's nerves. Because of this, I feel most at ease when it's just me and the music notes on the page in front of me. I even realize that my passion is so great that I feel the need to express music to others to show off the amazing feelings that come with it. I plan to attend college for music education so that in the future I may teach others who share the same love for music. I also plan to join as many musical ensembles as possible, like Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International, and the ensembles that are part of my college. I've just applied to a drum corps and I hope that this will give me more experience and passion towards music. I've never been a part of a corps before, but I do believe that my goals will only increase in becoming better at my instrument, raise my values in music, and help raise my current level of responsibility. Music is a passion that must be shared with those around you. I personally believe that is what makes it so enjoyable; to share it among friends, family, and the community as a way to relax and enjoy the sounds and emotions expressed. I see it as a relaxing and learning opportunity for everyone; whether it is the performer or the audience, it is beneficial for both. That way, the world can stop and appreciate the relaxing, rhythmic sounds.

Music has shaped the very core of who I am—teaching me to be kind, intelligent, compassionate, and respectful. It has given me the confidence to form genuine connections with others and inspired me to dream of a future where I can touch lives through teaching. I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to perform for my community, to bring joy and comfort to others, and to find solace for myself in uncertain times. There is a healing power in music that soothes anxieties and brings peace, allowing me to feel most at home when it’s just me, a blank page, and the notes waiting to come alive. My passion is so overwhelming that I feel compelled to share it, hoping to ignite that same spark in others and to celebrate the incredible emotions that music can evoke. To me, music is a gift meant to be shared—a bridge connecting friends, family, and entire communities. That is what makes it so magical: its power to unite people, to ease burdens, and to inspire joy. Whether I am performing on stage or listening in the audience, I am always learning and growing. I believe that in a world often filled with stress and noise, music offers a rare chance to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty around us. It is a source of comfort, growth, and connection, and I am endlessly grateful to be part of this vibrant, meaningful world.

During my high school years, there was one teacher who truly stood out and made a significant impact on my life. Mrs. Hays was not just an English teacher; she was a mentor who imparted invaluable life lessons and encouraged me to embrace my true self. Her kindness and exceptional sense of humor created a classroom environment that was both nurturing and inspiring. It was through her influence that I began to consider a career in teaching high school students. Although my ultimate goal is to teach music rather than English, Mrs. Hays’s passion for teaching opened my eyes to the true rewards of the profession. She showed me that the real prize in teaching lies not in financial gain, but in the profound effect a teacher can have on their students and the potential they can unlock within them through their passion and skill in music. With this newfound perspective, I have decided to pursue a major in music education at the University of Southern Mississippi, where I hope to combine my love for music with my desire to inspire and educate young minds.
In addition to my academic pursuits, I also participated in the mock trial team during my freshman year. Initially, I was unfamiliar with what “mock trial” entailed and only decided to try out because it was coached by my favorite teacher, Mrs. Hays. Once I joined the team and understood the nature of the activity, I committed myself fully and dedicated myself to performing my role to the best of my ability. For all four years of high school, I served as a witness on the team, and I have no regrets about this decision. More specifically, I played the role of the expert/law officer and this helped me learn even more about the judicial system and how law works through the eyes of a police officer. The experience of attending rehearsals, meeting new people, speaking in front of large audiences, and traveling to various courthouses for competitions has been instrumental in my personal growth. Mock Trial was truly a gift, and I was more than willing to sacrifice my free time to be a part of this enriching activity. It was also a huge plus that my friends joined this team with me. This helped my commitment and enjoyment in the activity. The skills I developed, such as critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork, have been invaluable and will undoubtedly serve me well in my future endeavors.

Music is not just a topic to me—it is the heartbeat of my existence, the thread that weaves together some of my most cherished memories and formative experiences. Its influence on my life is profound and deeply personal. There are countless moments when I become so consumed by the beauty and complexity of music that time itself seems to dissolve; the outside world fades away, and I am left completely immersed, lost in a world of sound and emotion.
My journey with music began in high school, where I threw myself wholeheartedly into every musical opportunity I could find. From the exhilarating rush of performing under stadium lights with the marching band, to the intricate harmonies of symphonic band and the infectious energy of jazz band, to the powerful rhythms of indoor percussion and, most recently, the emotional resonance of choir—each ensemble offered its own unique challenges and joys. These experiences demanded countless hours of dedication and practice, honing not only my technical abilities but also my sense of leadership and responsibility. Leading my section in marching band taught me the true meaning of teamwork: the realization that our collective effort and unity were essential to our success. The process was often difficult and required patience and perseverance, but I found immense fulfillment in helping others grow and in seeing our hard work come to life in every performance.

I aspire to join as many musical ensembles as possible—Drum Corps International, Winter Guard International, and college ensembles—to continue challenging myself and expanding my horizons. Having just applied to a drum corps, I am both nervous and excited for this new adventure, knowing it will stretch my abilities, deepen my passion, and teach me invaluable lessons about discipline and responsibility.
