Bio

Hello! My name is Braxton Wade and I am currently a senior at McKinney Boyd High School in McKinney Texas. I love creating as well as 3D modeling and printing. I am able to apply that passion in engineering competitions, leading to me becoming an international finalist and state champion in certain events. I have been a Drum major in the Boyd Band for the past two years, one of the top few leadership positions available, an all region and area member on trombone, and a member of both the band and engineering club for the past four years. In my free time, I like to go biking, read, and 3D model random things that peak my interest. In addition, I am incredibly passionate about technology and its advancement. I believe that countless problems in the world can be solved through advancing technology, specifically in the electrical realm. By making electrical components more efficient, renewable energy will be more viable as less power will be needed. Furthermore, more efficient component designs will lead to less raw material being needed, which in turn means reduced cost (increased availability) and less pollution from mining. My goal in attending college is to attain the education necessary to advance technology with the purpose of improving our natural environment, availability of technology, and the overall living conditions of countless people. Thank you for your time and consideration.

My plans after obtaining my degree, a bachelor's in electrical engineering, is to improve the world through pushing the innovation and advancement of technology- specifically the electrical field. My beliefs are that a large number of problems in this world can be fixed through a sufficient advancement in technology. The best way I have found to foster this advancement is to improve the power efficiency of technology, because, historically, the limiting factor of technological advancement has been the high power requirement. This is seen in the mobile 'brick phones' of the 1980s where downsizing was only achievable once circuitry was created that could operate with less power. This allowed for less material to be required to produce the battery, phone casing, and circuits themselves as well as reduce the amount of power overall to operate the phone. The impacts of increasing the efficiency of technology and circuitry go beyond a single product. The continual increase in efficiency would cause a measurable reduction in the amount of power required by many products. Over time, this decreased requirement in power would lead to the deceased burning of fossil fuels to produce that power, which would in turn make renewable energy, such as wind turbines and solar farms, more viable. As increased technological efficiency causes a reduction in the overall requirement of power, it will also the effectiveness of these renewable means of generating power. This will have a largely positive effect on the environment, as the burning of fossil fuels for power account for a large percentage of greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, the advancement of technology will allow for new products to be made with less material (such as the brick phone). This will lower the cost of the product which will in turn increase availability for those who may not have been able to afford it previously. For those who are not able to buy the product, the decreased price will likely increase its public availability. Beyond this, many technological products (specifically circuits) require rare materials that can only be found in a few places around the world and whose removal is an environmentally damaging process. The decreased material required will reduce the damage to our environment that removing these materials causes. The best way for me personally to foster these advancements would be to achieve a position where I have an ample amount of resources and ability to push for this advancement. In order to achieve this position, I will actively build my resume by attaining internships throughout college and actively improve my knowledge through advanced classes and research opportunities. Whether this position is working on the microscopic level or the macroscopic level, the overall goal of advancing technology through electrical engineering will be achievable and have a measurable impact on people's lives. By the time my college education is finished, I hope to have a solidified career prospect where I will be in a position to push for the advancement of technology to better both the environment and the lives of countless others. I hope to eventually attend graduate school to further increase my knowledge and improve my ability as an engineer to further advance technology in a much more measurable way. My dream in STEM is to foster this innovation and be at the forefront of this cutting edge technology that will dramatically improve the lives of many.
