Growing up in a low-income neighborhood taught me the value of perseverance and hard work. At the early age of 14, I accepted my first job, and soon found myself juggling three jobs at the same time in order to fund the necessities for my college trip. My heart remained tied to my neighborhood in the midst of this tempest, and my unshakable love for the environment became a driving force in my life.
My mother and I created a small oasis of greenery among the concrete, our mutual love of gardening blossoming into a symbol of optimism. This oasis not only enriched our lives, but it also demonstrated the transformational power of nature, even in the most unlikely of locations. My journey as an environmental champion truly began here.
We sowed the seeds of transformation with every seed we planted. I set out on a quest to raise awareness in my community about the necessity of sustainable living. I want to instill a sense of stewardship for our planet through seminars, tree-planting initiatives, and educational sessions. As I watched the community come together to breathe life into abandoned spaces and transform them into vibrant gardens, my heart swelled with joy.
The environment remained my North Star as I fought the uphill struggle of financing my studies. Every step I took, every hurdle I overcome was motivated by a genuine desire to protect our planet. I dedicated myself to promoting for a greener, more sustainable future, from sustainable behaviors in my daily life to leading conservation projects.
"You've reached the top of the mountain. Plant your flag, and leave a brief message."
"I soared on the wings of determination from the most humble of beginnings." This flag represents persistent advocacy and serves as a reminder that change begins with a single step. Allow our passion for environment to reverberate through the ages, motivating communities to thrive alongside our planet. Together, we can leave a greener legacy for future generations."
I am humbled by the road that has brought me to the top of this metaphorical mountain. My road, albeit difficult, has been lit by a strong commitment to the environment and a firm belief in the power of collective action. I am resolved to continue championing nature's cause, leaving behind a world that is not just sustainable but also bursting with the beauty and vitality that our planet so beautifully delivers, from the roots of our community garden to the heights of campaigning.

The threads of my existence are intertwined with my parents' incredible story and unwavering work ethic in the intricate fabric of life. As the son of an Afro-Brazilian father from the lively streets of Salvador, Brazil, my parents' journey and sacrifices created the very core of who I am today.
My father's story, a symphony of perseverance and drive, stands as a beacon for me. He grew up in the heart of Salvador, navigating the labyrinthine lanes of a low-income area where hopes were frequently overwhelmed by the harsh realities of daily life. Nonetheless, he remained steadfast in his pursuit of a better life, nurturing a germ of aspiration that would later develop into a resounding monument to the human spirit's resilience.

In a world brimming with possibilities, I see a young African American female pursuing a major in marketing and a minor in finance, poised to create a profound positive impact. As I tread this purposeful path, I am not only guided by my aspirations but also by the echoes of history, the sagacity of trailblazers like Madam C.J. Walker, and the indomitable spirit of Black Wall Street.
I see Madam C.J. Walker's words when she said, "Don't sit down and wait for opportunities to come; get up and make them." These phrases have become my unbreakable creed, propelling me onward with unflinching resolve. My story weaves perfectly into the tapestry of small Black enterprises, a monument to perseverance and inventiveness in the face of adversity. I envision a future in which I not only raise my own objectives but also contribute to the growth of these small firms, functioning as a catalyst for economic empowerment.
The sounds of Black Wall Street vibrate through my ambitions, echoing as a beacon of African American success and self-sufficiency in the early twentieth century. I am immensely inspired by this history of uncompromising endurance, and I see myself as a torchbearer, fanning the flames of constructive change. My goal is to start a chain reaction in which each success story I contribute to becomes a stepping stone toward a more robust and vibrant community.
In the area of marketing, I see the potential to highlight voices and stories that have long been marginalized. My planned initiatives will highlight the achievements and ingenuity of small Black enterprises, altering narratives and cultivating an atmosphere in which dreams not just survive but thrive.
As I embark on this transforming path, I am acutely aware that obstacles loom big, yet they are brightened by the illuminating stories of individuals who have overcome adversity. Madam C.J. The Guiding Light Within Navigating Life's Challenges with Faith
In a world often marred by adversity and injustice, my faith in God has been an unwavering source of strength and solace. As a Black individual navigating the complexities of the United States, my faith has provided a refuge, a shield against the storms that threaten to extinguish hope. This essay delves into the profound impact of God and my faith on my life, particularly as I pursue a business major with a minor in finance. I will also draw inspiration from biblical quotes and the indomitable spirit of Madam C.J. Walker, reflecting on how my faith will guide me in my career while acknowledging the significance of Black Wall Street.
As a Black individual, my faith has been a steadfast anchor amid the turbulent waves of prejudice and discrimination. In moments of despair, I turn to the words of Psalm 34:18: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." It reminds me that God's love transcends human limitations, offering solace and healing. Furthermore, Madam C.J. Walker, an iconic figure in African American history, once said, "I got my start by giving myself a start." These words resonate deeply, showcasing the resilience and determination inspired by faith, regardless of the obstacles faced.
Throughout my academic journey in business and finance, my faith has provided me with a profound sense of purpose. The teachings of the Bible have instilled values of integrity, honesty, and compassion, which are essential in these fields. Proverbs 16:3 reminds me to commit my work to the Lord, trusting that my plans will succeed. As I pursue my career, my faith will guide me to prioritize ethical decision-making, foster genuine relationships, and approach challenges with humility and resilience.
The history of Black Wall Street serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience and economic empowerment that can arise from collective faith and determination. The tragic destruction of this prosperous Black community in Tulsa, Oklahoma, underscores the importance of entrepreneurship and financial independence. Inspired by this legacy, my faith propels me to leverage my business acumen to uplift and empower marginalized communities. Through my studies in finance, I hope to dismantle systemic barriers, provide financial literacy and resources, and create opportunities for economic growth within underserved populations.
Beyond its influence on my personal life, my faith will guide me in my career as a beacon of light amidst the challenges I may face. Galatians 6:9 reminds me, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." In a society that often perpetuates inequality, I will draw strength from my faith to advocate for justice, equity, and inclusivity within my professional endeavors. It will inspire me to challenge systemic injustices and foster environments that promote diversity and equal opportunities.
Ultimately, my faith impels me to be a conduit of hope and change. It encourages me to embrace my unique perspective as a Black individual and leverage it to uplift others. Just as Madam C.J. Walker said, "I had to make my living and my opportunity. But I made it! Don't sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them." With my faith as a guiding force, I will forge my own path, breaking down barriers, and inspiring others to do the same.

Embracing Hope: Harnessing Opportunities for a Better Life
Within the depths of our individual stories lie the seeds of resilience, determination, and unwavering hope. As I embark on this introspective journey, I am compelled to share a glimpse into my life and illuminate the transformative power of opportunity. With the potential to uplift lives and forge paths toward a better future, the question of how I would use the funds bestowed upon me resonates with both the dreams I hold close to and the collective aspirations for a more promising tomorrow.
My story is one of humble beginnings, born from the tapestry of a tight-knit community that faced the constant struggles of economic hardships. Growing up amidst financial constraints, I was immersed in a reality where dreams were often suffocated by the weight of limited resources and opportunities. It is from this backdrop of adversity that my unwavering determination sprang forth, fueling my relentless pursuit of a better life not only for myself but also for those around me.
If entrusted with this opportunity, I would use the money as a catalyst for personal and communal growth. Education has been the cornerstone of my aspirations, and I would allocate a portion of the funds toward acquiring knowledge and skills that empower me to enact meaningful change. By investing in my education, I would equip myself with the tools necessary to create a better life not only for myself but also for others who yearn for a chance to break free from the shackles of limited opportunities.
Creating a better life encompasses more than personal growth; it necessitates uplifting the communities that have shaped me. Therefore, I would dedicate a portion of the funds to initiate community projects aimed at providing vital resources and support systems to those in need. By collaborating with local organizations and leveraging my skills, I would strive to tackle issues such as poverty, education inequality, and access to healthcare. These initiatives would foster a nurturing environment where every individual is empowered to pursue their dreams and realize their full potential.
Furthermore, I believe in the power of entrepreneurship as a catalyst for change. With a fraction of the funds, I would establish a social enterprise that combines my passion for sustainable development and economic empowerment. This venture would provide marginalized individuals with training, mentorship, and financial support to establish their businesses. By nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit, we would create a ripple effect of self-sufficiency and economic growth, fostering long-term prosperity within the communities we serve.
Lastly, I recognize the importance of holistic well-being as a fundamental aspect of a better life. Mental health and personal growth go hand in hand, and I would allocate a portion of the funds to support initiatives that promote emotional well-being and self-care. By partnering with mental health organizations, I aim to establish programs that provide counseling services, workshops, and community support networks. Through these efforts, I envision a society that prioritizes and nurtures the emotional resilience of its members.
In the symphony of life, each note plays a crucial role in shaping our destiny. If granted this opportunity, I would seize the chance to compose a better life not just for myself, but for countless others. By investing in education, community development, entrepreneurship, and mental well-being, I aspire to create a harmonious and uplifting symphony of progress, hope, and transformation.

Triumph Through Trials: A Journey of Resilience and Compassion
Life is an intricate tapestry of challenges and triumphs, and it is in overcoming obstacles that we discover our true strength and potential. From a childhood marked by constant relocation to witnessing my father's harrowing battle with COVID-19, I have navigated a labyrinth of hardships. Inspired by the words of Madam C.J. Walker, I am pursuing a path in marketing and finance, driven by a profound desire to uplift low-income families, just as I was once uplifted. Through determination, respect, innovation, versatility, equality, and nurture, I have embraced these values as guiding lights on my journey.
Determination has been the bedrock of my resilience. Despite the frequent upheavals of moving homes during my childhood, I cultivated an unwavering resolve to adapt and thrive in unfamiliar environments. Each relocation presented an opportunity to grow, fostering my determination to forge my own path and overcome the odds. As Madam C.J. Walker eloquently stated, "I had to make my living and my opportunity! But I made it! Don't sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them."
Respect has been a cornerstone of my interactions with others. Witnessing my father's battle with COVID-19, hovering between life and death, I learned the fragility of existence and the importance of cherishing every individual. It deepened my empathy, teaching me to approach every person with respect and dignity, regardless of their circumstances. In the face of adversity, I understood the profound impact that kindness and understanding can have on someone's well-being, inspiring me to strive for compassion in all my interactions.
Innovation became my compass when confronting the challenges of poverty and inequality. Growing up in low-income neighborhoods, I witnessed the systemic barriers that perpetuate cycles of disadvantage. Inspired by the spirit of Black Wall Street, where African American entrepreneurs thrived despite adversity, I recognized the power of innovation in transforming communities. Pursuing a dual path in marketing and finance, I am dedicated to finding innovative solutions that bridge the gaps and provide access to resources and opportunities for those who have been marginalized.
Versatility has been my armor in an ever-changing world. Each obstacle I faced demanded adaptability, pushing me to expand my horizons and embrace new skills. Whether it was learning to navigate different educational systems or acquiring proficiency in various fields, I embraced versatility as a means of growth. This adaptability not only fortified my resilience but also allowed me to approach challenges from multiple angles, finding creative solutions to complex problems.
Equality became a driving force in my quest for social justice. Coming from a background where inequality was palpable, I became acutely aware of the need to dismantle systemic barriers that perpetuate disparity. Inspired by the principles of equality and justice, I aim to utilize my education in marketing and finance to create opportunities and empower low-income families. By advocating for inclusive policies, fostering financial literacy, and promoting economic independence, I aspire to contribute to a society where everyone has equal access to resources and opportunities.
Nurture has played a pivotal role in my journey, as I have experienced the transformative power of support and mentorship firsthand. Growing up in a community where positive role models were scarce, I understand the profound impact that nurturing guidance can have on an individual's trajectory.

The Ripple of Compassion: The Importance of Helping Others
In a world often driven by self-interest, it is crucial to pause and reflect on the profound significance of helping others. Guided by the golden rule of treating others as we wish to be treated, acts of kindness have the power to transform lives, forging connections that transcend social and economic barriers. The poignant story of my father, who selflessly shared his last $12 with a homeless man, only to find unexpected blessings two years later, serves as a poignant reminder of the far-reaching impact of helping those in need.

The essence of helping others lies in the realization that no one is immune to hardship. Life's unpredictable nature means that circumstances can swiftly change, and the roles of giver and receiver can easily interchange. My father's selfless act epitomizes this truth. Despite facing his financial struggles, he chose compassion over self-preservation when he encountered a homeless man in need. Little did he know that this act would profoundly impact both their lives. Two years later, the same man who received my father's last $12 offered him a job, a testament to the power of kindness and the profound connections forged through helping others.

Growing up in challenging circumstances, I experienced firsthand the struggles faced by marginalized communities. Thus, my journey serves as a testament to the potential of education in breaking cycles of poverty and fostering change.
Madam C.J. Walker famously said, "Don't sit down and wait for the opportunities to come. Get up and make them." Inspired by her words, I have chosen to pursue a dual path in marketing and finance, recognizing the immense potential of these fields to effect change. Marketing offers a platform for amplifying voices and raising awareness, while finance provides the tools to create economic stability and opportunities for growth. By combining these disciplines, I aim to address the systemic barriers that perpetuate the cycle of poverty, specifically within low-income communities.
As a product of humble beginnings, I have witnessed the struggles that afflict marginalized families, whose dreams are often stifled by limited access to resources and opportunities. I will utilize innovative strategies to bring attention to the challenges these communities endure, fostering empathy and igniting social change. By creating compelling narratives, I aspire to inspire individuals and organizations to invest in the betterment of society, encouraging collaboration and the allocation of resources toward addressing the pressing issues faced by low-income families.
In conjunction with my marketing endeavors, my education in finance will equip me with the necessary skills to develop sustainable solutions for low-income families. Scholarship Institute’s Annual Women’s Leadership Scholarship
I have always been drawn to social issues and making a positive impact on the world. Growing up, I was exposed to the struggles that many people face, whether it was poverty, discrimination, or other challenges. These experiences motivated me to find ways to address important social issues and create positive change in the world.
One of the social issues that I am particularly passionate about is education. I believe that education is a powerful tool that can transform lives and communities. Unfortunately, not everyone has access to quality education, and this can create significant inequalities and barriers to success.
To address this issue, I have been involved in a variety of educational initiatives over the years. In high school, I volunteered at a local literacy center, working with children who were struggling to read. Through this experience, I saw firsthand the transformative power of education and the impact that it can have on individuals and communities.
In college, I continued to pursue my passion for education by studying education policy and working with local education nonprofits. I learned about the many challenges facing our education system, including unequal funding, teacher shortages, and systemic inequities. Through my studies and volunteer work, I gained a deeper understanding of these issues and became committed to finding ways to create positive change.
One of the ways that I have been working to make a positive impact on the world is by advocating for educational equity. I believe that every child deserves access to a quality education, regardless of their zip code or background. To this end, I have been involved in a variety of advocacy efforts, from lobbying elected officials to writing op-eds and organizing rallies.
Through these efforts, I hope to raise awareness about the importance of educational equity and to push for policies that address this issue. I believe that by working together, we can create a more just and equitable education system that provides all children with the tools they need to succeed.
Another way that I have been working to make a positive impact on the world is by mentoring young people. I believe that mentorship is a powerful way to inspire and support the next generation of leaders. Over the years, I have mentored children and teenagers from diverse backgrounds, providing them with guidance, support, and encouragement.
Through these mentoring relationships, I have seen firsthand the impact that a caring adult can have on a young person's life. Whether it is helping a child with their homework, offering career advice to a teenager, or simply being a supportive presence, mentorship can make a real difference in the lives of young people.
In conclusion, I am committed to making a positive impact on the world by addressing important social issues, particularly in the field of education. Through my advocacy work and mentoring relationships, I hope to create a more just and equitable society that provides all people with the opportunities they need to succeed. While there is much work to be done, I am optimistic about the future and believe that with dedication and hard work, we can create a better world for all.

Disney means more than just animated movies; it represents the power of storytelling, the importance of representation, and the ability to inspire and empower young individuals. Through Disney, I have learned valuable life lessons and embraced the magic within myself.

Resilience. A word that encompasses my journey thus far, defining my ability to withstand and adapt to the challenges life presents. I have been resilient throughout my life, navigating the shifts and changes that come with moving from Dayton to California, Chicago, and eventually New York. These experiences have taught me the importance of resilience, taking what life offers and persevering, regardless of the circumstances.
At the tender age of five, I found myself uprooted from my familiar surroundings, leaving everything I had ever known behind, as my family moved to San Francisco, California. The drastic changes in weather, customs, and way of life hit me like a burlap sack of bricks. However, I had only one choice: resilience. I learned to adapt, to embrace the new environment, and to find my place in this unfamiliar city.
But my resilience was truly tested at the age of seven when we moved from San Francisco to Chicago, marking the most significant change in my life. Navigating the bustling streets, adjusting to the fast-paced lifestyle, and leaving behind the routines I had grown accustomed to required more than just resilience; it demanded perseverance. From the screeching train cars to the confined space of a shoebox apartment, from new schools to forming new friendships, I had to summon my inner strength to overcome the challenges that came my way.
Yet, my journey did not end there. At the age of 14, I embarked on another move, this time to the vibrant and eclectic city of New York. Each transition brought its own set of obstacles, but with each move, I learned the value of resilience, patience, and adaptability. The process of uprooting myself from one city to another not only tested my resolve but also taught me how to thrive in the face of uncertainty.
Through these experiences, I have developed a profound appreciation for the importance of networking and understanding how the world works. Madam C. J. Walker once said, "I had to make my own living and my own opportunity! But I made it!" Her words resonate deeply with me as I navigate through life, embracing the power of connections and seizing opportunities. My love for networking has not only helped me form meaningful relationships but has also opened doors to new experiences and possibilities.
Furthermore, my keen interest in the art of advertisements and marketing has fueled my passion for the business community. Madam C. J. Walker's entrepreneurial spirit echoes in my aspirations. She once stated, "I am a woman who came from the cotton fields of the South. From there, I was promoted to the washtub. From there, I was promoted to the cook kitchen. And from there, I promoted myself into the business of manufacturing hair goods and preparations." Her resilience and determination serve as a constant source of inspiration, motivating me to pursue education in marketing and advertising, with the aim of making a lasting impact in the business world.

Jerome D. Carr Memorial Scholarship for Overcoming Adversity
Mental health, a topic I hold close to my heart. Growing up in a family where depression ran in the genes, I was always aware of the impact mental illness could have on a person's life. My grandmother and aunt both suffered from depression, and I saw how it affected them in different ways. My grandmother was never able to get the help she needed, and she suffered in silence for most of her life. My aunt, on the other hand, was able to get the help she needed, and it made all the difference in the world.
My experience with mental health has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations in a multitude of ways. Firstly, it has made me believe that mental health is just as important as physical health. As the famous psychologist, Abraham Maslow once said, "In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety." Mental health issues can be just as debilitating as physical health issues, and we must give them the same level of attention.
In my relationships, my experience with mental health has taught me to be empathetic towards people who suffer from mental health issues. I know how difficult it can be to deal with these issues, and I understand the importance of listening without judgment and being a source of support for those who need it. As the famous author and psychiatrist, Viktor Frankl once said, "The last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances."
My experience with mental health has also influenced my career aspirations. As someone who has always been interested in helping others, I have realized that I want to pursue a career in mental health counseling. I want to help people who are struggling with mental health issues to find the support and resources they need to lead happy and fulfilling lives. As the famous psychotherapist, Carl Rogers once said, "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
In conclusion, my experience with mental health has influenced my beliefs, relationships, and career aspirations in significant ways. I believe that mental health is just as important as physical health, and I am committed to being empathetic toward people who suffer from mental health issues. I am also committed to pursuing a career in mental health counseling so that I can help others who are struggling with these issues. As the famous author, Mark Twain once said, "The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why." I believe that my purpose in life is to help others, and I am excited to see where this path will take me.
CEW IV Foundation Scholarship Program
History. Throughout it, society has grappled with how to respond to the problems faced by the disadvantaged. While progress has been made, it is clear that more needs to be done to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities and access to resources. I firmly believe that society must change its way of responding to the problems of the disadvantaged if we hope to create a more just and equitable world.
One of the reasons why it is necessary to change our approach is that the current system is not working. Despite decades of efforts to address inequality, poverty, and discrimination, these issues continue to persist. The fact that so many people still face these challenges is a clear indication that something is not working, and that we need to try a different approach.
Another reason why change is necessary is that it is the right thing to do. We cannot simply turn a blind eye to the suffering of others and continue with business as usual. We have a moral obligation to do what we can to alleviate the suffering of those who are less fortunate. It is not enough to simply acknowledge that there are problems; we need to take action to address them.
Moreover, changing our approach to the problems of the disadvantaged is not just a matter of morality; it is also a matter of practicality. We cannot afford to have a large portion of our population struggling to get by. The problems faced by the disadvantaged, such as poverty and lack of access to education and healthcare, ultimately affect everyone in society. For example, poverty can lead to higher rates of crime, which in turn can lead to increased spending on law enforcement and the criminal justice system. Improving the lives of the disadvantaged can benefit everyone by reducing these costs and creating a more stable, prosperous society.
So, what needs to change? First and foremost, we need to recognize that the problems faced by the disadvantaged are not the result of personal failings, but rather systemic issues. It is not enough to simply tell people to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" when they lack the resources and opportunities to do so. We need to take a more proactive approach by investing in education, healthcare, and other social services that can help level the playing field.
Finally, we need to listen to the voices of the disadvantaged and work with them to find solutions that will address their needs. Too often, policies are developed without input from those who are directly affected. By engaging with the disadvantaged and listening to their perspectives, we can develop more effective policies and programs that truly meet their needs.
In conclusion, society must change its way of responding to the problems of the disadvantaged. We cannot continue with the same approach that has failed to address these issues in the past. We must recognize that the problems faced by the disadvantaged are not individual failings, but rather systemic issues that require systemic solutions. By investing in education, healthcare, and other social services, addressing prejudice and discrimination, and listening to the voices of the disadvantaged, we can create a more just and equitable society that benefits everyone. It is not just a matter of morality, but a matter of practicality as well. We cannot afford to leave anyone behind if we hope to create a better future for all.
CATALYSTS Scholarship

Living with ADHD has been an experience that has challenged me in many ways. It has caused me to struggle with simple tasks such as focusing on my studies, organizing my time, and even remembering simple details. As a result, growing up, I often found myself feeling lost, alone, and overwhelmed. However, despite these challenges, I have always been determined to succeed in life, which has led me to pursue higher education.
I remember the day I was diagnosed with ADHD, I was only eight years old. I had always struggled in school, but I had never thought that my inability to focus was due to a medical condition. Despite my challenges, I have always been motivated to pursue higher education. I know that with higher education, I can not only achieve my personal goals but also contribute to society positively. Pursuing higher education has been a challenging journey, but it has also been a rewarding one. I have learned so much about myself, my strengths, and my weaknesses, and I have grown both personally and professionally.
As a candidate for this scholarship, I believe that my experience with ADHD and my motivation for pursuing higher education make me a good fit. Living with ADHD has taught me valuable life skills such as determination, adaptability, and perseverance. I have learned to push through challenges and never give up on my goals. I am also a strong believer in giving back to the community. I believe that education is a powerful tool that can change lives, and I am committed to using my education to make a positive impact in the world. I have volunteered at local schools and organizations to help children who are struggling with ADHD, and I plan to continue this work in the future.

Winner“Be the change you want to see in the world.” This quote by Mahatma Gandhi has always resonated with me. It has taught me the importance of being different and leveraging my uniqueness to make a difference in the lives of others, even those I have no idea are watching me.
As a Christian, I have always been taught to love and serve others. I have a deep love for helping those in need, and it is something that has been instilled in me from a young age. My desire to help others has driven me to become involved in various volunteer organizations and community service events. Through my volunteer work, I have had the opportunity to meet many people and have been able to make a positive impact on their lives.
Growing up, I always felt different from my peers. I was the only black student in my class and often felt like an outsider. However, rather than letting this feeling of difference hold me back, I chose to use it as a source of strength. I realized that being different was not a bad thing, but rather something that made me unique and special.
As I began to embrace my differences, I found that I was able to connect with people differently. I began to see the world through a different lens and was able to empathize with others in a way that I had not been able to before. This newfound perspective allowed me to leverage my uniqueness to make a difference in the lives of others.
One way I have leveraged my uniqueness is through my involvement in a mentorship program for underprivileged youth. As a mentor, I have been able to use my experiences and perspective to provide guidance and support to these young people. Through my interactions with them, I have been able to help them navigate challenges and provide them with a sense of hope and encouragement.
In addition to my involvement in the mentorship program, I have also volunteered at a local homeless shelter. Through my interactions with the residents, I have learned that everyone has a story, and everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. My unique perspective has allowed me to connect with them in a way that goes beyond simply providing a hot meal or a place to sleep. I have been able to offer them a sense of hope and remind them that they are not alone.
I believe that it is through our differences that we can make the greatest impact in the lives of others. As Mahatma Gandhi said, we must be the change we want to see in the world. I am proud of the person I am and the unique qualities that make me who I am. By embracing my differences, I have been able to leverage my uniqueness to make a positive difference in the lives of others, even those I have no idea are watching me.
In conclusion, I am passionate about helping others in need because it is a reflection of my faith and who I am as a person. I believe that it is our differences that make us special and that it is through our uniqueness that we can make a difference in the world. I will continue to leverage my uniqueness to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and I hope to inspire others to do the same. As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
NE1 NE-Dream Scholarship
"We may encounter many defeats but we must not be defeated." Maya Angelou once said. This quote has resonated with me throughout my life, as I have faced numerous challenges and obstacles on my journey toward fulfilling my dreams.
Growing up, I had a dream. A dream of making a difference in the world, of creating positive change, of leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those around me. But as a young girl from a low-income family, it often felt like the odds were stacked against me.
My parents worked tirelessly to provide for our family, but the reality of our financial situation meant that many of my dreams were out of reach. I often felt like I was living in a different world from the kids at school, who had the latest gadgets, stylish clothes, and seemingly endless opportunities. But even in the face of adversity, I refused to give up on my dreams.
As I got older, I began to realize that the key to fulfilling my dreams lay in education. I saw education as a way to break the cycle of poverty that had held my family back for generations, and as a way to gain the skills and knowledge needed to create real change in the world.
But even with this newfound sense of purpose, the road ahead was not easy. I struggled with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the fear that I was not good enough to make it in a world that often seemed to be stacked against me. But I refused to let these feelings hold me back. I reminded myself of Maya Angelou's words, that we must not be defeated by our defeats.
I worked tirelessly to excel in school, and to gain the skills and knowledge needed to pursue my dreams. And slowly but surely, I began to see the fruits of my labor. I received scholarships to attend college, worked hard to maintain a high GPA, and interned at organizations that aligned with my values and passions.
Through it all, I remained driven by a deep passion to make a difference in the world. I was inspired by the words of civil rights icon John Lewis, who said, "If you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have a moral obligation to do something about it." These words have become a guiding principle in my life, as I have dedicated myself to creating positive change in the world.
I am driven by a deep desire to create positive change in the world in any way that I can. I am passionate about volunteer work and community service, and I am constantly seeking out ways to give back to those in need.
Through it all, I am driven by a sense of purpose and a deep passion for creating positive change in the world. I am inspired by the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who said, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
I may have faced many challenges and obstacles on my journey toward fulfilling my dreams, but I have refused to be defeated. I am passionate about creating positive change in the world, and I am committed to using my skills, knowledge, and passion to make a difference in the lives of those around me.
Ruthie Brown Scholarship
As a college student, the reality of student loan debt can be daunting. However, I am determined to address this challenge head-on and develop a plan to manage my current and future debt.
One of my strategies to address my current student loan debt is to minimize my expenses and save as much as possible. I have learned to live frugally and prioritize my spending, focusing only on essentials like food, rent, and school supplies. This has allowed me to allocate a significant portion of my income to pay off my loans.
In addition to managing my expenses, I am actively seeking out scholarship opportunities and applying for them regularly. I understand that every dollar counts, and every scholarship I receive reduces the amount of debt I will have to take on in the future. I am also exploring work-study programs and internships that offer tuition reimbursement or loan forgiveness programs, providing additional financial support.
Looking ahead to my future student loan debt, I am researching various loan repayment options to determine the best plan for my situation. I am considering income-driven repayment plans, which allow me to make monthly payments based on my income and family size, and public service loan forgiveness programs, which forgive my remaining loan balance after 10 years of working in public service.
Additionally, I am exploring alternative financing options, such as private loans and grants, to supplement my federal student loans. I am researching various lenders, comparing interest rates and repayment terms, and consulting with financial advisors to ensure that I make informed decisions that align with my financial goals.
Beyond these strategies, I am also actively pursuing career opportunities that offer loan repayment benefits or tuition reimbursement programs. I am considering fields such as nursing, education, and public service, where loan forgiveness programs and repayment benefits are common. By working in these fields, I can make a positive impact on my community while simultaneously addressing my student loan debt.
In conclusion, managing my current and future student loan debt is a priority for me. I am taking a proactive approach to minimize my expenses, apply for scholarships, and explore alternative financing options. Additionally, I am researching various loan repayment plans and considering career opportunities that offer loan forgiveness and repayment benefits. While the process may be challenging, I am committed to developing a plan that will allow me to address my debt while pursuing my academic and career goals.

I rushed to the hospital and spent the next 36 hours by his side, praying and hoping for his recovery.
During those 36 hours, I was filled with a sense of fear and uncertainty. However, I refused to let those feelings consume me. Instead, I remained focused on my father's well-being, doing everything in my power to help him recover. I held his hand, talked to him, and even sang to him, hoping that my presence and voice would provide some comfort and healing.
Thankfully, my father did recover, and he was able to return home after several days in the hospital. However, this experience left a lasting impact on me. It reinforced my belief in the importance of family, resilience, and the power of hope. It also further ignited my passion for healthcare and inspired me to become a more compassionate and empathetic healthcare professional.
Through my caregiving experiences, I have learned the importance of selflessness, patience, and compassion. These traits have become an integral part of my identity and will undoubtedly influence my future as a healthcare professional. I aspire to become a nurse practitioner, specializing in geriatric care, to continue serving vulnerable populations like my grandmother. I want to provide care that is rooted in compassion, empathy, and dignity, recognizing the unique needs of each individual.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have served my loved ones during their time of need and am inspired to continue making a positive impact on others in the future.
Our Destiny Our Future Scholarship
"Be the change you wish to see in the world.", Gandhi once said. This quote has always resonated with me, as it encapsulates my philosophy of creating positive change through individual action.
One of the key ways in which I plan to make a positive impact on the world is through my career. I am currently pursuing a degree in environmental science, with a focus on sustainability and conservation. My goal is to work in the field of environmental policy, where I can help to create policies and initiatives that promote sustainability and protect our natural resources. I believe that by working to address environmental issues, I can contribute to a more sustainable future and help to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
In addition to my career, I plan to make a positive impact on the world through community service and volunteering. I have always been passionate about giving back to my community, and I believe that individual actions can have a significant impact on the world. I plan to volunteer with local organizations that promote sustainability, environmental conservation, and social justice. I also plan to continue volunteering with disaster relief organizations, as I believe that providing aid and support to those affected by natural disasters is an important way to make a positive impact.
Another way in which I plan to make a positive impact on the world is through advocacy. I believe that advocacy is a powerful tool for creating change, as it can help to bring attention to important issues and drive policy change. I plan to use my voice to advocate for policies and initiatives that promote sustainability, environmental conservation, and social justice. This may involve attending rallies and protests, contacting my elected representatives, or using social media to raise awareness about important issues.
I believe that small actions can have a big impact, and I plan to make changes in my own life to reduce my environmental footprint and promote sustainability. This may involve things like reducing my use of single-use plastics, composting, and reducing my energy consumption. I also plan to support local businesses and organizations that prioritize sustainability and conservation.
In all of these areas, I am guided by a belief in the power of individual action to create positive change. I believe that each of us has a responsibility to take action to promote sustainability, social justice, and environmental conservation. By working together and supporting one another, we can create a better world for ourselves and future generations.
As I consider the impact that I hope to have on the world, I am mindful of the challenges that we face as a global community. From climate change to social inequality, many complex issues require action and collaboration to address. I believe that by taking individual actions and working together, we can create a more just, sustainable, and equitable world.

As a young Black woman, my life has been filled with both struggles and triumphs. Growing up, I experienced firsthand the effects of systemic inequality and discrimination that have plagued our society for generations. But despite the challenges I faced, I always held onto the hope that one day I could make a positive impact in the world and create change for future generations.
My upbringing instilled in me a strong sense of resilience, perseverance, and compassion. I grew up in a community where people looked out for one another, where we rallied together in times of hardship, and where we celebrated each other's successes. One of my earliest memories is of my grandmother, who worked long hours as a domestic worker to support our family. Despite her tireless efforts, she struggled to make ends meet and often had to make difficult choices between paying bills and putting food on the table. As a child, I couldn't fully understand the challenges she faced, but I knew that I wanted to do something to help.
This experience sparked a fire within me to work towards creating a more just and equitable society. I knew that the road ahead would not be easy, but I was determined to make a difference in the world.
Throughout my life, I have faced numerous challenges and obstacles, but I have always persevered with the belief that I can make a difference. When I faced discrimination and prejudice, I refused to let it hold me back. When I struggled with mental health issues, I sought help and found strength in the support of my family and friends. And when I felt overwhelmed by the weight of the world's problems, I reminded myself of my grandmother's unwavering determination and her steadfast belief that change is possible.
As I look toward my future, I am more determined than ever to make a positive impact in the world. Through my career in public policy, I hope to address the root causes of inequality and to create policies that promote equality and justice for all. I believe that education, healthcare, and economic empowerment are essential for creating opportunities for marginalized communities and ensuring that everyone has a fair shot at success.
But beyond my career aspirations, I am committed to making a difference in the world through community service and volunteer work. I believe that we all have a responsibility to give back to our communities and to uplift and empower those around us.
In conclusion, my background as a young Black woman has inspired me to fight for a more just and equitable society. The United States is a melting pot of cultures, beliefs, and perspectives, and our ability to come together in times of crisis is what sets us apart. Our country has a rich history of triumphs and struggles, and it's this legacy that inspires me to do my part in effecting positive change.
One of the things that make me proud to be an American is the freedom and opportunities we have as citizens. The United States is a beacon of hope for people all around the world who dream of a better life. We have a Constitution that guarantees our basic rights and freedoms, including freedom of speech, religion, and the press, and a government that is designed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people.
As an American, I also feel proud of our history of social justice activism. From the Civil Rights Movement to the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, our country has a rich tradition of standing up for what is right and fighting for the marginalized and oppressed. I believe that this legacy of social justice is what makes us unique as a nation and sets us apart from other countries.
Despite these admirable qualities, however, there are still areas where we fall short as a nation. One change I would like to see in our country is a greater focus on environmental sustainability. As a global citizen, it is our responsibility to take care of our planet and ensure that future generations have access to clean air, water, and natural resources. Unfortunately, the United States has been slow to take action on climate change, and we continue to rely heavily on fossil fuels and other unsustainable practices.
To effect change in this area, I plan to become more active in environmental advocacy and education. I believe that education is the key to creating lasting change, and I want to work to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change and the steps that individuals and communities can take to mitigate its effects. I plan to work with local schools and community organizations to promote sustainable practices and create opportunities for people to get involved in environmental advocacy.
Additionally, I want to work with policymakers and elected officials to push for greater investment in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure. By working to change policies and regulations, we can create a more sustainable future for ourselves and future generations. I believe that this change will require a collective effort, and I am committed to doing my part to make it happen.
In conclusion, I am proud to be an American, but I am also aware that there is still work to be done to make our country better. By focusing on areas like environmental sustainability, social justice, and education, we can create a brighter future for ourselves and future generations. I am committed to doing my part in effecting positive change and ensuring that America remains a beacon of hope and freedom for people all around the world.
Dema Dimbaya Humanitarianism and Disaster Relief Scholarship
For as long as I can remember, I have felt a deep sense of responsibility to help those in need. This sense of duty has driven me towards community service and disaster relief work, which has been a significant part of my life for many years. In this essay, I will explore what brought me to this work and how I plan to contribute more in this area in the future.
Growing up, I was taught the value of giving back to others. My parents instilled in me the belief that we are all part of a larger community and that it is our responsibility to help those who are less fortunate. As a result, I began volunteering at a young age, working with local organizations to support those in need. This experience opened my eyes to the struggles and challenges faced by many individuals and families in my community, and it fueled my passion for community service.
Since that time, I have been involved in various disaster relief efforts, including responding to wildfires, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. I have worked with local organizations to provide aid and support to affected communities, and I have also trained in disaster response and emergency management. Through these experiences, I have seen firsthand the impact that disasters can have on individuals and communities, and I am committed to continuing this work.
Looking toward the future, I plan to contribute more in the areas of community service and disaster relief. One of my goals is to become more involved in disaster response and emergency management. I am interested in pursuing advanced training in this area, such as FEMA certifications or a degree in emergency management. I believe that by developing my skills and expertise, I can make a greater impact on disaster response efforts and help to ensure that communities are prepared and resilient in the face of disasters.
In addition to disaster relief work, I am also committed to continuing my work in community service. One area that I am particularly interested in is education. I believe that education is a powerful tool for empowering individuals and communities and that it can help to address many of the underlying causes of poverty and inequality. I plan to volunteer with local organizations that provide educational opportunities to underserved communities and support initiatives that promote access to quality education for all.
Another area that I plan to contribute more is advocacy. I believe that advocacy is a critical component of community service and disaster relief work, as it can help to bring attention to important issues and drive change at the policy level. I plan to use my voice to advocate for policies and initiatives that support disaster preparedness, community resilience, and access to basic needs such as clean water, food, and healthcare.
In conclusion, my commitment to community service and disaster relief work is rooted in my belief in the importance of helping those in need. My experiences have taught me that disasters can have a devastating impact on individuals and communities, and that community service is essential in promoting resilience and recovery. Looking toward the future, I plan to contribute more in this area by developing my skills and expertise in emergency management, volunteering with local organizations, supporting educational initiatives, and advocating for policies that promote social and environmental justice. I am grateful for the opportunities that this scholarship would provide me to continue pursuing my goals and making a positive impact in the world.

As I reflect on my academic and professional journey, I am filled with a sense of gratitude for the opportunities I have had to grow and learn. Throughout my experiences, I have set various academic and professional goals that have helped me to focus my efforts and achieve success. In addition to these goals, I am committed to giving back to my community in meaningful ways, which has inspired me to make a positive difference in our world.
One of my primary academic goals is to pursue a degree in medicine. As I have pursued my academic goals, I have also been committed to giving back to my community. I have been involved in various volunteer programs, including serving meals at a local homeless shelter and tutoring at-risk youth. One of my most meaningful experiences was volunteering at a free health clinic in a rural area. This experience was eye-opening, as it made me realize the immense need for accessible healthcare in underserved areas. It was inspiring to see the dedication of the healthcare professionals who volunteered their time and resources to provide care to those who would otherwise have no access to medical services.
Giving back to my community has not only been a rewarding experience but has also inspired me to make a difference in our world. As I have interacted with individuals from different backgrounds and cultures, I have gained a deeper understanding of the challenges facing our society. I have learned that poverty, lack of access to education, and limited access to healthcare are just a few of the issues that affect individuals and communities worldwide.
In addition to pursuing a career in medicine, I am also committed to using my professional skills and expertise to address social and environmental challenges.
My experiences of giving back to my community have inspired me to make a difference in the world by using my skills and expertise. I have seen firsthand the transformative power of healthcare, education, and technology, and I am eager to contribute to these fields. I believe that technology can be used to address social and environmental challenges and can be a powerful tool for positive change. As a computer science major, I am excited about the possibilities that exist in this field and am committed to making a difference.
In conclusion, my academic and professional goals are closely aligned with my commitment to making a positive difference in the world. Pursuing a degree in medicine and developing technologies that can address social and environmental challenges are two ways in which I hope to achieve this goal. Giving back to my community has been a significant source of inspiration for me and has taught me the importance of using our skills and resources to make a positive impact on others. I am grateful for the opportunities that this scholarship would provide me to continue pursuing my goals and to make a difference in our world.

Andrew Perez Mental Illness/Suicidal Awareness Education Scholarship
As someone who has battled with mental illness for a significant portion of my life, my passions have become an integral part of my healing journey. Among my many passions, writing and photography have been the most therapeutic. These two art forms have allowed me to express my innermost thoughts and emotions, even during my most difficult times.
Writing has always been my go-to when I need to process my feelings or when I am struggling with anxiety or depression. When I put pen to paper, I feel a sense of release that is unmatched. Through my writing, I am able to explore my thoughts and emotions, and I can better understand myself and my struggles.
Photography, on the other hand, has taught me to appreciate the beauty that exists in the world around me, even when things may seem bleak. Through the lens of my camera, I can capture moments of joy and beauty that I might have otherwise missed. It has allowed me to see the world in a new light and has given me a sense of purpose and meaning.
In coping with my mental illness, I have found that self-care is essential. This means making sure I am taking care of my physical and emotional needs, even when it feels difficult. For me, this includes practicing mindfulness, getting enough sleep, and making sure to carve out time for my passions.
Despite the challenges I have faced, I am determined to achieve my goals and aspirations for the future. One of my biggest aspirations is to use my passions for writing and photography to help others who may be struggling with mental illness. I hope to use my experiences to raise awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
Ultimately, my goal is to become a mental health advocate and to inspire others to find their own passions and coping mechanisms. I believe that by sharing my story and my struggles, I can help to break down the barriers that prevent people from seeking the help they need.
In conclusion, my passions have been a lifeline for me in coping with my mental illness. They have given me a sense of purpose and a way to express myself when words fail. Through my writing and photography, I hope to inspire others to find their passions and embrace the healing power of creativity. My ultimate goal is to use my experiences to help others who may be struggling with mental illness and to create a world where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health.
Theresa Lord Future Leader Scholarship
As someone who values education and its impact on personal growth and societal progress, my educational goals have always been centered around continuous learning and exploration. I believe that education is a powerful tool that can be used to overcome challenges and improve lives.
One obstacle I faced in my life was growing up in a low-income household. My family struggled to make ends meet, and we often had to prioritize basic needs like food and shelter over educational resources. This meant that I had limited access to extracurricular activities, educational materials, and tutoring services that could have helped me excel academically.
Despite these challenges, I was determined to succeed academically and pursue my passion for learning. I learned to be resourceful and seek out opportunities to learn on my own. I read books from the local library, watched educational videos online, and participated in free educational programs in my community. I also took advantage of any academic resources that were available to me, such as tutoring services offered by my school.
Through this experience, I learned the value of perseverance and hard work. I realized that education is not only about what is taught in the classroom but also about the effort and dedication that individuals put into their own learning. I also learned that education is not just for the privileged few, but for anyone who is willing to work hard and seek out opportunities.
Another obstacle I faced was the transition from high school to college. College was a completely different experience than anything I had encountered before, and I struggled to adapt to the increased workload and level of independence. I found it difficult to balance my academic responsibilities with my social life and personal well-being.
However, through this experience, I learned the importance of time management and self-care. I learned to prioritize my academic responsibilities and schedule my time in a way that allowed me to take care of myself and pursue my interests outside of school. I also learned the value of seeking support when needed and reaching out to others for help and advice.
In conclusion, my educational goals are centered around continuous learning and personal growth. I believe that education is a powerful tool that can be used to overcome challenges and improve lives, and I am committed to using my education to make a positive impact on the world. My experience growing up in a low-income household and transitioning to college has taught me the value of perseverance, hard work, time management, self-care, and seeking support when needed. I am confident that these skills and values will serve me well as I continue on my educational journey.

Bold Community Activist Scholarship
Food. This is an important staple in any community, especially a low-income community. Having no food can also take a hard hit when you cannot afford bills, groceries, and things similar. I take pride in helping my community with foods, clothing, and other things that could brighten a person's day, and perhaps change a life. Aside from school, I also help tutor neighborhood children in subjects that I have taken in the past.
Any extra or leftover food that my family does not need, we try to offer to those around us. We have experienced what it is like firsthand to not be able to eat, or worse, feed your children. When you can't eat at night, it can be hard to get a good night's sleep, focus, and even function. When your mother tells you that she can't afford groceries, this will leave you worrying about just about everything. This worries you to the point where you wonder where you might be sleeping or eating next month.
Throughout the year, I also donate gently used items, such as shoes, shirts, and pants. Why? This should not be a question. I do this because no child or human being for that matter deserves to not have proper clothing regardless of financial situation. No one should be cold on winter nights because of insufficient funds. Nobody deserves to be without.
