Hi, my name is Brandon Sloat. I am a senior at Bixby High School in Oklahoma where I am active in both my school and community. To prepare for college, I have been saving money from my part-time job and taking concurrent enrollment courses at our local community college. First Lady Rosalynn Carter once said "A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be." Her words have inspired me during several leadership roles over my last four years of high school. I have used this advice to influence and encourage my peers and teammates to join my volunteering efforts along the way. I have participated for 12 years in competitive soccer and more recently on my high school soccer team. I have both worked and volunteered as a referee in this sport. In addition to athletics, I also support and participate in several events at my school, my church, and help with a local Boy Scouts den. I also enjoy volunteering at events and as a fundraiser for The Bixby Historical Society and The Bixby Outreach Center. My personal goal is to be accepting of others as a leader and both share and learn with the diverse members of the community. I am exceptional, just like everyone else and I will use my time in college for growth, not only from the interactions with my professors but also from my peers.
