I started my college education pursuing a degree in exercise science while being a quarterback at Adrian college. My long-term goal was to become a Physical Therapist because I wanted to help people recover from injuries just like I had experienced. This was always my plan until the summer of 2022 when I worked my first job as a greenskeeper and fell in love with the idea of being a golf course superintendent. Both my superintendent and General Manager were Michigan State graduates and they talked to me about the program throughout the summer until I was fully committed to wanting to change my career path. My plan to make a huge and positive impact on the green industry is through leadership and a work environment. When I am blessed enough to be the superintendent of a golf course my goal is to create the greatest work environment the golf industry has seen. When I say this I don't mean just the agronomy crew. I mean everyone who works at the club. Anyone who has worked at a course knows that there is typically a feud between agronomy and pro shop or the kitchen staff and agronomy. This always causes negativity and it is not good for a work environment when everyone works at the same place. I believe to succeed that the janitor is just as important as The Director of agronomy and I believe that when everyone thinks that way that's how you achieve a top course/club in the state or even country. You achieve this by doing what you preach. Once this is achieved I want to go to conventions such as the GCSAA and give speeches to spread what we have accomplished and to show the importance of it. The reason I want to do all this to make a difference in the green industry is that every superintendent is good at their job. They can all keep a course looking nice and know how to handle diseases and other issues. What makes a great leader, in this case, a superintendent is the work environment created because of them. I am so passionate about doing this because of my superintendent and GM who made me feel like I could do something amazing after working with me for only one season. I also know I wouldn't be in this position if it wasn't for my professors at MSU who treat every student the same and make us strive for greatness. I want to make a change in the golf industry because of everyone who has been a part of my journey. This scholarship will help me get through school and achieve this goal.
