My career goal is to become a radiation therapist. I have been accepted into the University of Michigan. My childhood includes being in foster care, then adopted by a wonderful single mom who passed away in the summer of my junior year in school. As a child I was abused by my parents. My brother and I were placed in foster care. We were adopted by an amazing single mother who worked hard every day. She instilled very good work ethics in me. I have worked at McDonalds for three years and never missed a day. She also encouraged me to read, learn and always told me the importance of continuing my education and complete college. In high school I was on the freshman football team and my mom would be on the sidelines cheering me on with my number 77 on her shirt. She was very proud. My mother then became ill with cancer. I contributed by working at McDonalds, doing more household chores and helping to care for my mom. In July 2023 just before my senior year she sadly passed away. It has been a difficult time without her every day, but I know she is always with me. I have been trying to navigate the college application process and am hopeful I will be able to afford to start in August 2024 at University of Michigan. I have been accepted and have completed my orientation. I plan on attending the University of Michigan for radiation therapy. I chose this field because my career tests highly included me in the healthcare field, and I feel comfortable around cancer patients. As part of a medical radiation oncology team, radiation therapists use machines called linear accelerators to administer radiation treatment to patients. It helps with pain and is used to kill cancer cells. It is my ambition to be the best in my field and never stop learning. I plan on making a contribution to the world to make it a better place. Even by greeting someone with a smile or asking how their day is. I know it makes a person feel better just by knowing someone cares. It is important to me to become a professional with knowledge to take care of myself, support and encourage my younger brother and make a positive difference in the world. My life goals would be to volunteer to help other individuals with challenging childhoods become productive citizens with knowledge, good careers and be the happiest people they can. There are so many opportunities to give back the chance I was given my mother. She was such an inspiration. Brave, strong, kind, caring and always willing to help others. I learned so much from my mom and want to carry it on. Thank you for this opportunity, Brandon Hoskins

Everyone needs help at some time in their life and I would like to make a positive difference in the world by volunteering at food banks, the big brother organization, help with cancer patients and other community services. Also I want to help take care of my brother and set him up for success. He is a very smart, kind, giving person who needs a little help right now also. Thank you for this opportunity, Brandon Hoskins
