TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) Ult Group Scholarship
My name is Brandon, and I will be attending UC Davis as a pre-med student on the track to become a dermatologist. One fun fact about me is that I am a huge collector and love dancing for fun, especially to K-pop songs (and especially TXT songs). I became interested in becoming a dermatologist when I realized how much fun and good it feels to just care for your skin, especially seeing TXT’s perfect skin on camera. This realization prompted me to explore dermatology beyond the surface level, where I discovered a passion for understanding skin's complexities and a commitment to helping others achieve their best skin, reflecting the confidence and positivity I found through TXT. To help pay for my studies and my pursuits, I will be doing work-study, as well as applying for scholarships and having my parents help me from time to time.
I became a MOA back in 2019 when they were first announced. TXT captured my interest immediately. Hearing those first few beats of their debut song, mesmerized by the complex choreography they were given as rookies, really gave me something to always look forward to at the end of my day, especially during the pandemic. It’s not a feeling I can describe precisely in words, but the best word I can come up with is “relationship”. I felt as though I invested my entire life in these five boys, and they have invested theirs back. Every performance, every show, every song, it just made me feel more connected to them, even if they were thousands of miles across the world from me.
Speaking of the word “relationship,” the relationship between the five members is really just so genuine and caring, it lights up my day every time I see their mutual love for one another. The charismatic leader, and also my bias, Choi Soobin, just brings out the best of himself and reflects it onto his fellow members. Seeing Soobin be able to do the things he does, as an introvert such as myself, I always try to see myself in his shoes and aspire to be like him. He easily became my inspiration, and I live my life now with such a great figure to look up to. Seeing him grow from the timid, shy member, to now being a more outspoken and confident person gives me confidence in myself to grow just as much as he did. His quirky personality mixed alongside his caring nature just gives me such a hope in life that there will always be a good to come out of the bad, and that I have to keep trying and trying again, no matter how hard the situation is.
One of my favorite songs from TXT is actually from their new album (The Star Chapter: TOGETHER), and it happens to be Soobin’s solo song, “Sunday Driver.” It is such a nice and relaxing song, in which Soobin conveys every moment that we spend together and just enjoy every little bit of time we spend together. The song reminds me of how to always live in the present and enjoy life to its fullest, because as the saying goes, we are not promised tomorrow.
The influence TXT has had on my aspirations for good is an amount I cannot even comprehend. I feel as though I am now a much more positive and grateful person than I was before I met TXT. My aspirations to go into dermatology plays into this as well. Everyone is always obsessing over clear skin, beautiful face, but not everyone is able to fit into these standards, and I would like everyone to know that it’s okay. As someone who does not fit these standards either, I’ve learned to live with it and take care of what I have now. Everything will fall in the right place, just like the fate of TXT and me meeting in this short lifetime.
Ultimate K-Pop Stan Scholarship
Getting straight to the point, TOMORROW X TOGETHER, also abbreviated as TXT, is the best fourth generation k-pop boy group in the running. TXT is a five member group, consisting of members Choi Soobin, Choi Yeonjun, Choi Beomgyu, Kang Taehyun, and Hueningkai. All talented and wonderful members, but enough about them. Let's talk about their everlasting impact on the world. Ever since finding out about their debut in 2019, I was hooked. Their visuals stood out and their vocals were even better. Monster rookies as many would say. Their music has brought me so much joy in my life, and although that may sound cheesy, it's the truth. I'm not quite sure how my life would be right now if it weren't for them. The five of them alone have taught me about self-worth and valuable lessons that I will never forget. With their distinct music sounds and superb production skills, they just seem to hook any listener. TXT has changed my life in all sorts of ways, especially when it came to my mental health. In 2020, when the world was in a pandemic crisis, TXT just seemed to always be there when I felt low. Working online, stressed on how to navigate online assignments, listening to TXT gave me that sense of relief I needed from stressful days. Their kind and encouraging words have brought me to love myself even more and have confidence in myself. I've even taken up dancing because of them, which I would've never done had I not been confident.
Their global impact was huge, from their debut days to the present, TXT has won multiple awards, gained multiple fans, and have secured their place in the k-pop industry. Their talents are no joke, and I could talk about them for however long I could. Their success globally has brought many fans from around the world closer together. Social media platforms are where TXT's fandom, called MOA, which stands for Moments of Alwaysness, come together to geek over the boys. TXT topped many charts, not just in Korea, but in a variety of countries, like America or Indonesia. On these social media platforms, the boys interact with their fans and show their gratitude to us, which many groups do, but not in the way TXT does. Their humble-ness and down-to-earth minds give many fans ease of comfort. Many fans have reciprocated those feelings back to them, so it's almost like one big happy family around the world. The words the boys speak gives confidence to many of us, even me. They're not afraid to speak up and go against social norms that have been placed on them, especially in South Korea. Behind MOAs are the haters. Together as a fandom, we've come together in order to defend them and to never let their hard work go unnoticed, which is what many other fandoms love to use against them. TXT has brought everyone from different cultures, religions, races, anything you can think of, close together. As TXT's career progresses, I hope to be able to continue their journey and I will always support them. This love I feel for them will never fail to bring a smile to my face, even on those days I feel the worst about myself.
