Bio

I am a hands-on learner with a strong curiosity for how things work, which led me to pursue a career in aviation maintenance. I enjoy taking things apart, understanding their function, and putting them back together—skills that align naturally with this field. After 10 years in retail, where I developed strong work ethic and communication skills, I made the decision to transition into trade school. I am currently working toward my Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance. I am committed to building a career as a skilled aircraft maintenance technician, and this scholarship would help me stay focused on achieving that goal.

Hands-on learning is important to me because it allows me to truly understand how things work beyond just theory. I have always been the type of person who learns best by doing—taking things apart, studying each component, and putting them back together. This process not only helps me retain information better, but it also builds confidence in my ability to solve problems. Being able to physically engage with what I am learning makes the experience more meaningful and prepares me for real-world situations where critical thinking and practical skills are essential. My experience in a trade-focused educational path has played a major role in shaping both my personal and professional goals. While my earlier years were spent working in retail, where I developed strong communication skills, patience, and a solid work ethic, I realized that I wanted a career that challenged me in a more technical and hands-on way. Transitioning into a vocational program has given me the opportunity to pursue that goal. It has reinforced my passion for mechanical work and confirmed that I thrive in environments where I can actively apply what I am learning. Through my training, I have developed a deeper sense of responsibility and attention to detail, especially knowing that in aviation maintenance, safety is critical. This has influenced my professional goal of becoming a certified and dependable Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) technician. I want to be someone others can rely on—someone who takes pride in doing the job correctly and safely every time. Personally, this journey has also taught me persistence and adaptability, as learning new technical skills requires patience and a willingness to keep improving. Looking ahead, I plan to use my skills to make a positive impact in my community by contributing to the safety and reliability of air travel. Aircraft maintenance is not just about fixing machines; it is about protecting lives. By becoming a skilled technician, I will play a role in ensuring that aircraft operate safely for passengers, crews, and the public. In addition, I hope to serve as an example for others who may be considering a similar path. Trade careers are often overlooked, but they offer meaningful, stable opportunities, and I want to encourage others to explore hands-on professions. I also plan to give back by sharing my knowledge and experiences with younger students or individuals interested in aviation. Whether through mentorship, community programs, or simply offering guidance, I want to help others see the value of learning a trade. Hands-on learning has given me direction, purpose, and a clear career path, and I hope to use my journey to inspire and support others in finding their own.
