Proverbs 3:27 Scholarship
My name is Bradyn, and I attend Gate City Christian School. I enrolled as a kindergartener in 2013. From the beginning, the school and church community surrounding it have played a major role in who I am today.
I am a life- long member of Gate City United Pentecostal Church, where I am blessed to serve in different areas of ministry. I play the drums, help with tracks, and serve as a musician’s assistant. In addition, I volunteer in our church coffee shop each month and assist during our Spanish services. Being involved in different areas of ministry has given me opportunities to serve others and grow in my faith.
One of the things I enjoy is being around people of all ages. I often help in our children’s department, and sometimes I assist the parking attendants when it is raining. Other times, you may find me behind the scenes washing dishes in the coffee shop. While washing dishes may not be my favorite task, I still try to serve wherever I am asked.
A scripture that reflects how I feel I have Christian character is
Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV): “A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.”
This verse describes how I try to live and be to others. I enjoy laughter, making people laugh, and I believe that even God has a sense of humor. When people are laughing, their weight doesn’t seem so heavy and sadness fades, even if only in that moment. One particular year at school I received the awards for both “Class Clown” and “Most Respectful.” While those two characters might seem like opposites, I believe laughter is a gift when it is shared with kindness and godly character.
In 2023, First Church of Lebanon was preparing to reopen its doors to the community. I had the privilege of helping with repairs and cleanup so that the church could again serve as an Apostolic place of worship for the community. It was a long couple of days and hard work, but it was an honor to be part of the team making that possible.
Every year our church hosts a community outreach event during Independence Day weekend. We serve the community free of charge, offering free activities, food, and give aways. I help with setup, activities, and cleanup. It is a wonderful way to give back and reach the community letting them know our church truly cares. Mrs. Vanover often says, “You have not because you ask not,” and when she asks for help, I try to show up. Whether it is helping coach Elevate basketball or simply changing a light bulb, I want to be willing to serve. I have been blessed to help my senior year.
If chosen as the winner of this scholarship, I would first give God what is due Him, the tithes. I plan to pursue a career in Audio Engineering where I can give back at my local church. Therefore, I would use the scholarship to purchase a much needed lap top for online classes.
Thank you for this opportunity.
