Bio

I am a retired US Marine who is working in the pharmaceutical industry at the moment. I set a goal for myself to complete my bachelor's degree before my daughter who is currently a freshman in high school graduates from high school. I think by showing her that I can work a full-time job to provide for our family and go to school full time, that will provide her with additional motivation to complete a higher education program after she graduates. Even with over 20 years of experience in maintenance and engineering, the lack of having a degree is limiting my potential in the current job market.

I am a retired US Marine who is working full time and going to school full time. I have a daughter who is currently in high school. Being a good example to her is one of my top priorities in life. By completing my degree before she graduates high school continues to be that example for my daughter to emulate. I come from a family legacy of service to our nation. Both my grandfathers served our nation during war time. One served during WWII in the Army. The other served in Korea in the Air Force. Both were strong advocates to my parents for me to join the Marine Corps over 20 years ago. Those two men were great influences on me during my formative years. I also had an uncle, cousin, and stepfather who all served in the Army. Growing up just south of Fort Knox, Kentucky there was a great pride in all branches of the US Military where I am from. My service in the Marine Corps was also during a time of war. My primary military occupation was electronics maintenance technician and maintenance supervisor. I was also able to serve as the lead technician in the Marine Corps communication research and development branch. I deployed to Iraq once and Afghanistan twice for combat deployments. I was also selected to be a Marine Security Guard during my time on active duty. I was able to provide direct security for embassies in Poland and Germany. My career was very broad from being an electronics technician to training foreign militaries. Unfortunately, like many service members I was injured on active duty and can no longer serve. Regardless of the injuries received, I would not change my time that I served. Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelors of Science in Organizational Management from Purdue University Global. In today's job market, regardless of having over 20 years of experience in maintenance, engineering, and leadership not having a degree limits my potential for upward growth in the job market. Ultimately, I would like to use my experience in life as a technician, instructor, and mentor to better organizations. As a Project Manager or Technical Support Manager I can implement the latest technology and providing critical training to employees. In today's job force it is critical to eliminate rollover. Millions of dollars each year are wasted on poorly or untrained work force. By creating clear standards that employees are able to follow increases proficiency. Teaching senior management effective communication methods and promoting bottom-up communication strengthens organizations.
