I am a high school athlete getting ready to embark on my senior year of high school and last season of football with my team. I have been playing football since I was 9 years old and have learned a great deal over the years. I also have Type 1 Diabetes, diagnosed at just 4 years old. I wear an insulin pump and CGMS to help manage my blood sugars. Football and Type 1 Diabetes both require a huge amount of responsibility and balance, and both also come with their own risks. Football helps keep me active and physically fit, which are good for overall health and blood sugar control. Type 1 Diabetes helps me own my health, food choices, impacts to my blood sugars and the way I feel. Both football and T1D require mental balance, as its can be mentally exhausting and stressful to manage both. Its my hope that my experiences in both parallels lead me towards a carrier and life path of accountability, hard work and success in the future.
