I am a senior at Athens Drive Magnet High School. I am a part of the Health Science Academy at my high school as I plan to pursue a career in healthcare. I will be attending UNC Wilmington in the fall as part of the Honors College. I plan to major in Public health with hopes of pursuing a position as a health administrator or a diabetes educator. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes at age 9, which is why I would like to give back to my community with my insights as a type one diabetic. Living with diabetes is an everyday battle and makes every aspect of life more challenging. Unfortunately, we don’t get a choice but to make the best out of this life and live with resilience. I became a JDRF Youth Ambassador this year to be able to advocate for other type one diabetics and make a difference in my community. I’ve been able to raise thousands of dollars, be part of planning events such as walks, and reach out to the newly diagnosed families. Other involvement in community: -NSCU Cefs Student Design Team- Summer internship program. Farm to school imitative -Miracle League Buddy, PEPI (physical education pupil instructor) member, Best Buddies club member.
