Engaging in community service, specifically working at the food bank, has been a very important work experience for me. Though I had done volunteer work prior to my time at the food bank, working there was the first time where I saw my actions truly impact people firsthand. I personally stocked carts with food, and additional necessities, and delivered the carts to people who stopped by. As I witnessed people’s smiles and their touching, “Thank yous”, I gradually realized that I wanted to have the same effect on people with my professional career. I was fascinated by this new development, and so I continued to stop by and help out whenever I had free time during my summer break. I went so often that I ended up spending over sixty hours volunteering throughout my three months there. As I continued to visit, I learned more about the workers, and why they chose this career, and their answers were always the same—they wanted to help people. Working with them helped me understand that I wanted people to feel supported and cared for, all while doing something I was passionate about. I always knew I wanted to do something within the scope of finance and data analytics, so I started looking for future jobs that would not only benefit my personal interests but would also benefit my community. Essentially, working at the food bank helped me understand that assisting people through my own personal endeavors was a significant pursuit.
