My life has taught me that challenges do not define who you are they help you grow. Through my experiences, I have become someone who is hardworking, compassionate, and resilient.
I have always enjoyed science, especially learning about the human body and illness. This interest led me toward nursing. My motivation is also personal. When my family faced financial hardship, I took on more responsibility at home, helping care for my younger siblings while continuing my studies and supporting my parents. During that time, I had to give up cross-country and track, sports that once gave me freedom and balance. Although difficult, the experience taught me perseverance and accountability.
My goal is to become a Registered Nurse who helps patients feel safe, understood, and cared for during difficult moments. I believe nursing is not only about science but also about understanding people. I try to support others whenever I can, whether by helping classmates with language barriers or packing meals for the homeless with my church, JOC Tacoma.
I believe I am a strong candidate because I bring both academic dedication and character. Four years of wrestling taught me discipline and mental strength, while singing on my church’s worship team taught me humility and teamwork. I hope to continue growing, supporting others, and pursuing a career centered on compassion and service.

Taylor Swift Fan Scholarship
One of Taylor Swift’s most moving performances is her live rendition of “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” during the Taylor Swift Eras Tour. What makes it especially powerful is not just the song itself, but the way she delivers it on stage with full emotional control while still letting the story feel raw and very personal.
The performance stands out because it blends storytelling with restraint. She doesn’t over-perform it; instead, she lets the lyrics carry the emotion, which makes the audience feel like they are witnessing a personal memory rather than a polished pop act. The quiet moments in the song, especially when the crowd sings along, create a shared emotional experience that feels very intimate even in a stadium setting.
It is also moving because it reflects her growth as an artist. The song itself is about reflection and memory, and her live performance shows how she has learned to revisit older pain with perspective rather than intensity. That balance of vulnerability and control is what makes it so impactful.
Overall, this performance stands out to me because it turns a personal story into a collective emotional moment, showing why her work connects so strongly with audiences.
Sylvester Taylor Hospitality Scholarship
I want to use my passion for hospitality to make a positive impact by creating environments where every person feels safe, understood, and valued. To me, hospitality is more than providing service; it is a way of caring for others with kindness, patience, and respect. I see it as a vocation of care that I plan to carry into my future career as a nurse. In that role, I hope to be a calm and steady presence for patients during stressful or painful moments, offering what I call quiet support, where I listen, stay present, and allow people space to express themselves at their own pace.
I have also learned that the importance of practical service through volunteering. while packing meals and distributing clothing for people experiencing homelessness showed me how even small actions can make such a big difference. These experiences taught me that hospitality means making sure people feel seen and valued, no matter their background or even current situation. In addition, i was able to be mentor classmates who faced some language barriers which helped me understand how active listening and patience can build trust and confidence in others.
Beyond service and healthcare, I also aim to use my spiritual and creative gifts to support others. And as a singer on my church’s worship team, I try to create a welcoming and peaceful space where people can find comfort, hope, and strength during difficult times. Music allows me to connect with others in a meaningful way and contribute to a sense of community.
Overall, my goal is to consistently show up for others in both big and small also small ways. Whether in healthcare, community service, or spiritual spaces, I am committed to helping create supportive and inclusive environments where people feel respected, cared for, and truly valued.
Ms Ida Mae’s College Bound Scholarship
My interest in nursing comes from both a love of science and a desire to care for people during difficult moments in their lives. I have always been curious about how the human body works and how illness affects it. Over time, I realized that nursing allows me to combine scientific knowledge with compassion and service. To me, healthcare is not only about treating illness; it is also about making sure people feel supported, respected, and understood.
My motivation to pursue nursing is also shaped by personal experience. During a period when my family faced financial instability, I had to take on more responsibility at home. I helped care for my younger siblings and supported my parents while continuing my studies. During that time, I made the difficult decision to step away from sports I loved, including cross-country and track. Those sports had always been an outlet for me, so leaving them behind was not easy. However, the experience taught me resilience, discipline, and accountability. It also helped me understand the quiet sacrifices many families make when facing hardship.
These experiences strengthened my empathy for others who may be struggling. I believe that compassion grows when people take the time to understand the challenges others face. Because of this, I try to support those around me whenever possible. Through my church, I have helped pack meals for people experiencing homelessness, which reminded me how important community support can be during difficult times. I have also mentored classmates who faced language barriers in school. Helping them work through assignments and build confidence showed me that sometimes the most meaningful help is simply being patient and encouraging someone as they learn.
In my future career as a nurse, I hope to create a space where patients feel safe and respected. Illness can often bring fear, confusion, and uncertainty, especially for individuals from underserved communities who may already face barriers to healthcare. I want to be someone who listens carefully, explains things clearly, and makes patients feel valued regardless of their background. Nursing is a profession that requires both scientific skill and human understanding, and I hope to grow in both areas throughout my education.
I am particularly interested in continuing to explore ideas about community, culture, and perspective through interdisciplinary learning. Understanding the social and cultural experiences of different patients can help healthcare providers deliver more effective and compassionate care. By learning from both science and the humanities, I hope to become a nurse who treats not only medical conditions but also the human experience behind them.
Ultimately, my goal is to use my education and experiences to make healthcare more compassionate and inclusive. I want every patient I encounter to feel that they are heard, respected, and cared for. Nursing offers me the opportunity to combine my academic interests with my commitment to service, and I am excited to continue pursuing a career that allows me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
