Michael Hinrich Memorial Scholarship
I am an only child in a family full of mechanics. My father, uncles and grandparents have all worked in the automotive industry for as long as I could remember. One of my grandparents work as a high school automotive teacher. I always thought that was the coolest job. Who gets to go to work and play with cars all day long? My other grandparent worked at Utah Transit Authority before he retired. He started as an automotive teacher at JobCorp, then owned his own automotive business, and then landed at UTA. He specifically worked on the para-transit vehicles for the disabled.
As I look back at the work they’ve done, where they are now, and seeing how they poured their heart and soul into their work… it gives me excitement to know I can continue on with their legacy. When I got my first toolbox for Christmas, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it and the path I was going to take for college.
I need funding to go to school and to live on campus since it’s far away from home. This is my dream and I cannot wait for the possibilities that are coming soon. I wanted to make sure I was well prepared for this, so I took my required graduating credits early on in high school to make sure I could focus on getting ready for college early. Thank you for reading my story and for considering me for this scholarship opportunity.

I always looked forward to visiting their shops and helping and learning whatever I could. My whole life in school I was asked “what do you want to do when you graduate high school?” I really only knew mechanics. My friends were heavily involved in basketball, baseball, video games, YouTubing, etc. I enjoyed all the same things as they did (besides bowling, I really love to bowl), but they all want to go to local colleges and live together. I would love to do the same thing, but, these schools don’t offer the program I’ve been dreaming to go too. Some of my friends are only going to the same school together to be with each other. I am choosing not to do that because my love for diesel mechanics is stronger. I look forward to attending WyoTech and living on campus there. They have an amazing hands on program that starts in July. That’s why I am here telling you my story. I need funding to go to school and to live on campus since it’s far away from home.
