I am currently studying to become an athletic trainer at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. I plan to use my education to give back to the community by getting my bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and then my master's in athletic training. After that, I want to go back to my hometown, Tallahassee, and work at a middle school or high school as an athletic trainer. There were many kids growing up that played sports but never had an athletic trainer.
In my high school, I had one an athletic trainer, and she was one of the best people I have ever met. I had only met her halfway through my high school experience, but I am glad I found her when I did. She helps kids not only with their injuries when playing sports but also inside the classroom as well. Seeing her be so efficient, authoritative, and effective, I knew I wanted to be an athletic trainer as well. Many schools in Tallahassee, or in the district of Leon in Tallahassee, don’t have any athletic trainers. This may be because of poor money management or because the school is too small but if I could help those children to recover quickly and make them better than before their injury, that would bring happiness into my life.
I was introduced to being an athletic trainer by a friend of mine. This friend was going to sign up to be in the Sports Medicine program at my school. I didn’t know what it was about, but I wanted to give it a try because it was something completely new to me. When I joined the program, it was not just about taking care of the athletes and being the people on the sidelines handing out water. Being an athletic trainer means working with other people effectively and communicating. Also being able to adapt to any situation needed and to always check your surroundings. You must be confident in your abilities such as wrapping a sprained ankle or stretching the player where it is needed. You must be quick and efficient while being an athletic trainer. I am currently enrolled as a first-year student at the university, and I have a class that helps us figure out our future career goals.
A guest speaker came in to talk to us about athletic training. I know a lot about athletic training because I volunteered at my school as an athletic trainer for the sports teams. When the guest speaker started talking about athletic training and what athletic training is, it made me secure in my choice of major and future career. The speaker sounded so passionate about athletic training just like I do, and I wanted to learn more from her. I want to be able to help athletes recover and come back stronger. With the education of being an athletic trainer, I can give back to my community in a positive way and hopefully create some star players in the future.
I have been inspired by my mother and how strong she has been not only for herself but for others as well. This opportunity will help me achieve success by allowing me to continue college debt free. Debt free in college will provide me the opportunity to pursue my dream goal which is to be an athletic trainer. When I become an athletic trainer, I will give back to my community and continue to be strong like my mom is. She is the inspiration that keeps me going every day.

Christina Taylese Singh Memorial Scholarship
I am starting college soon to get my undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and hopefully, a master's degree in athletic training if I tend to stick to it. Different things can happen while I’m at college though, like figuring out that there is something else that I am interested in and want to major in that. However, I am passionate about achieving my bachelor's degree and master's degree so that I can become an athletic trainer. An athletic trainer is a healthcare professional who works under a physician to provide prevention, rehabilitation, and evaluation of/to athletes.
I was introduced to being an athletic trainer by a friend of mine. This friend was going to sign up to be in the Sports Medicine program at my school. I didn’t know what it was about, but I wanted to give it a try because it was something completely new to me. With the experience of learning and getting to know what an athletic trainer does, I knew that I had found something that made me happy.
The University of West Florida was the best choice for my major and to help me achieve my future career goal. When looking up my major, I wanted a school that could take me to the next level of education while also being close to home. When I learned about the University of West Florida having a master's program for athletic training, I knew that I had to apply. I am currently enrolled as a first-year student at the university, and I have a class that helps us figure out our future career goals. A guest speaker came in to talk to us about athletic training. I know a lot about athletic training because I volunteered at my school as an athletic trainer for the sports teams.
That is what my goal of becoming an athletic trainer has done, it has made me happy. I can help people who are just like me. I can help athletes through their lowest and pick them back up again to play the sport they love. Not everyone gets a chance to do something they love and stick with it. I will not waste any opportunity that come my way so that I can achieve my goal. Since I have experience in being an athletic trainer from my high school, the skills that I possess will help me to hopefully be one more step into my goal. I know how to wrap ankles, stretch players, make icepacks, and more. The skills I have acquired will make me an effective athletic trainer.
Redefining Victory Scholarship
My mother has impacted my life in a positive way by always being there for me. For some people, especially people I'm close with, don't have the best relationship with their mothers. I can't say the same for me and my mom. She is a single mom who has raised me to be an incredible person. It has just been me and her for the longest, even though my father is still a part of my life, it's been my mother who has sacrificed and has made sure I've lived the life she couldn't have.
I am an only child, so her attention and focus were and still is, always on me. I asked her if she had always wanted a child and without any hesitation she said yes. She said I was the blessing in her life she had always wanted. Even though she wanted to be married, she said I was always enough. I feel the same way about her. My mother didn’t have the most memorable childhood. She grew up with two loving parents, 2 older brothers and one younger sister. Her father would always work while her mother would be at the house taking care of them. Since there were so many people in the house and two of them being older, there were things she was never allowed to do like join clubs' afterschool or hang out with friends.
As soon as she turned 18, she left the house and moved to Tallahassee. She went to FSU on a full academic scholarship. She stayed after college and supported herself when her parents couldn’t. She was and still is determined, strong, and intelligent. She found a job at the National High Magnetic Field Labatory. She is one of the top human resource people at the lab. She oversees employment, finances, and helps solve people's problems. Even though I personally don’t think they pay her enough, she is amazing at her job. Not only is she efficient at her job, but she is also a multitasker when it comes to family. When her sister died in 2020 due to covid, she had to take in her three nieces including an additional niece who needed a place to stay. So, from 2020-2022, she was supporting a six-person household which initially was intended for only two people. She took care of all 5 of us, without asking for help from anyone. I saw how overwhelming the situation was for both of us because it was all unexpected. I helped around the house and wherever else she needed me without hesitation.
My mother was instrumental in helping me to become the person I am today by teaching me all the valuable lessons life had to offer. She taught me kindness towards others even if they don’t give it back to you. She taught me to never give up on what I believe in or how I feel about something. To never let fear control me, to make the most of life, to open my heart to new things, and to always see the beautiful person that I am. When I was younger, I would always doubt myself and I wasn’t sure of much, but my mother was always there to answer my questions and to give me support even if she wasn’t at her best. She always put me before herself and I will always be grateful to her.
This is what success looks like to me.
Nintendo Super Fan Scholarship
My favorite game to play in co-op mode is Mario Kart and it's my favorite game because not only did I get to play with my close cousins, but I also loved being competitive. When it came to Nintendo games, we would always pick Mario Kart since it was so competitive but also really fun.
A memorable moment from a multiplayer session was when me and my cousins where at our grandma's house for the summer just visiting like we always do. This one particular day, all of us had our Nintendo DS and we all picked out favorite characters. Mine was the mushroom because of my big head but also because the older cousins got to pick their characters first and so me and my little cousin were stuck with characters we didn't want. Another rule was that we couldn't have the same character as someone else so we wouldn't get confused. It was a cloudy day that day and so we all were in the living room playing on our DS.
The core thing I remember about that day was how happy I was. Being surrounded by family and having a good time was the only thing I truly wanted. Since we were all competitive, there were some fights and arguments that broke out but if they didn't, could you really call us family? Me and my cousins played so many rounds of Mario Kart that our hands were starting to hurt. We would choose random racetrack and sometimes we would either play against each other or on teams. Of course, my older cousins wanted to gang up on the little cousins, but we were definitely going back and forth trying to see who was going to win overall.
At the end of the day when all of us were done playing on the DS, our grandma cooked food. We all sat at the table, and it was just a room filled with laughter. Thats why I say it's my most memorable memory not only playing Nintendo game but also just playing with family as a whole. I will never forget that memory of how happy all of us were.
Netflix and Scholarships!
The Witcher is a must watch binge series on Netflix that came out in 2019. This is my absolute favorite series because I rewatched The Witcher more than 3 times. For some people that may not be a lot, but it would take a lot for me to watch something even more than once. This series is not your typical show either, so it does depend on your preference of what you like to watch, but if you like gore, drama, and handsome/beautiful fictional characters, this is definitely the show for you.
The Witcher series starts off with a horrific looking creature trying to eat a baby deer because its hungry. However, the creature doesn't know it's the one being hunted. All of a sudden, a man comes out of nowhere and starts fighting the creature. The battle ends with the man cutting off the creature's head and he walks over to the baby deer. Unfortunately, the creature left a massive cut on the baby deer, and it was suffering in its final moments, so the man killed the baby deer to end its suffering and that's only the introduction to the first episode. After that scene, we get to know the man that killed the creature. They call him the "Witcher", but his true name is Geralt of Rivia, you will know why they call him that later in the series. Geralt's adventures led him to a small town not too long after he killed the creature and there was a sorcerer who needed him to kill a girl. A girl who was a princess, but she is bound to be cursed and turn into a man-eating monster. He wants Geralt to kill the girl, so she won't kill him first because the sorcerer killed all her sisters and anyone she ever loved. The only problem is that Geralt doesn't kill humans, just monsters, and the princess was still human.
The latter half of the episode, we get introduced to a young girl who is a princess in her kingdom. Since her parents are gone, she is taken care of by her grandmother who is the queen, but there are secretes hidden from the princess and she will soon discover, she will be the most powerful being in the whole series and think she will destroy the world. The queen thinks she is protecting the princess from the horrors of life, but she doesn't realize how close the danger was until it was too late. The princess I am mentioning is named Ciri, the lion cub. There is a destiny that holds for both Ciri, and Geralt of Rivia. They will both need each other, because they are each other's destiny. Ciri is a powerful being, she comes from a strong blood line of powerful beings and Geralt is a monster created to kill other monsters. How will he react when he finds out she is a monster herself?
The timeline of season 1 is the most interesting part about the series. The timeline goes back and forth from present to past. It might seem confusing at first because you think one thing is happening, but when it cuts to a different scene, nothing makes sense. That is the beauty of this series. It makes you question, go back, rewatch and do that process over and over. This doesn't only happen in season 1 either but it is the most noticeable once you understand the timeline. The series had me going crazy and this is why I say this series is a must need binge watch over the weekend.

With sharing my faith, I am a believer. I am a believer of someone who knows that a higher power than anyone can explain is watching over us. Blessing us or giving us lessons through life that we need. In sharing my faith, I can have others not only believe that things are done by a higher power, but to also make them believe in themselves. Being an athletic trainer comes with much responsibility over your athletic players. You create memories and bond like you are also a part of the team. When a player gets injured however, depending on how bad the injury is, they will let themselves get depressed and think that they won't be able to play as good as before. As me being an athletic trainer, I will make sure that they never stop believing that they can improve and get better after an injury. My whole goal and purpose are to get them back and better than before their injury. No matter the faith, I will believe in my players and believe in their abilities to be better.

I have had to overcome death in my immediate family and trying to adapt to a new living situation. This has shaped me into who I am today because these challenges taught me to be selfless, comforting, accommodating, and to appreciate life for what it is, absolutely beautiful. My aunt died due to COVID-19 in 2020 and my grandfather a year later passed. When my aunt passed, my cousins had to come live with me and my mother. So instead of it being a two-person household, it turned into a six-person household. With my financial struggle, my parents make enough so that I can't get financial aid but not enough to pay for my college. I have 900 dollars to my name, and I have a part-time job on campus that pays 13 an hour. I am in my freshman year of college, second semester, hopefully to get my undergraduate degree in exercise science a master's degree in athletic training if I tend to stick to it.

When the guest speaker started talking about athletic training and what is athletic training, it made me secure in my choice of major and future career. The speaker sounded so passionate about athletic training just like I do, and I wanted to learn more from her. I want to be able to help athletes recover and come back stronger. This degree will help to lift up the community by helping athletes recover and come back stronger than before.

This scholarship will help me achieve my educational goals by helping me to pay for the classes I need to for major. My major is exercise science and plan are to be a professional athletic trainer.
