Bio

I’m a first-generation college student pursuing a General Business degree at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. Currently working toward my MBA, I have a strong interest in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and the power of technology to drive change. As a former Track & Field athlete, I’ve learned the importance of discipline, perseverance, and balancing multiple priorities. Outside of academics, I’m passionate about investing and have spent time developing my knowledge in stock market analysis and options trading. My long-term goal is to launch a 3-D printing business with my father to provide affordable tools for underserved communities. I aim to use this business as a platform to mentor young entrepreneurs and promote financial education, particularly in Black and first-generation communities. Through mentorship, workshops, and accessible resources, I want to help others break down barriers in business and finance, creating opportunities for the next generation to thrive.

    Sweet Dreams Scholarship
There is one story that changed my life more than any other: my own. Growing up, I believed success was mostly about talent and intelligence. However, my college journey taught me that resilience, perseverance, and faith in yourself matter even more. During my early years in college, I faced academic probation, financial hardship, emotional struggles, and moments where I genuinely questioned my future. I lost financial aid eligibility, struggled balancing academics and athletics, and often felt isolated while trying to figure life out on my own as a first-generation college student. At one point, I felt embarrassed by my setbacks and worried people viewed me as unsuccessful. But over time, those experiences changed my perspective and shaped the person I am becoming today. I learned that many people silently struggle with pressure, loneliness, financial stress, anxiety, and self-doubt while pretending everything is okay. That realization changed how I view others and how I want to impact the world. The problem I notice in my community that many people walk past is emotional isolation and lack of encouragement, especially among young people and students. Many individuals feel unsupported, overlooked, or judged based on their current circumstances. People often underestimate how powerful kindness, mentorship, and opportunity can be in changing someone’s life. What I notice that others may not is that many people are not lazy or hopeless—they are simply discouraged and trying to survive emotionally, financially, or mentally. Sometimes people need support systems, guidance, opportunities, or simply someone who believes in them. If I had the resources to act, I would create programs and business initiatives focused on mentorship, career development, financial literacy, and emotional encouragement for students and young adults. My long-term goal is to become an entrepreneur and business leader who creates opportunities for others through business growth, job creation, and community outreach. I want to build companies that not only generate success, but also create positive environments where people feel valued and inspired. My experiences taught me that leadership is not only about personal achievement. It is about helping others believe they can rise above their circumstances too. That is the type of impact I hope to make in my community and eventually on a larger scale.
    Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
During my early years in college, I faced one of the most difficult periods of my life academically, financially, and emotionally. I entered college in 2021 immediately after graduating from high school as a Business Administration major and Track & Field athlete competing in the 400 meters. At the time, I believed I was prepared for college, but I quickly learned that balancing academics, athletics, personal responsibilities, and the transition into adulthood was much harder than I expected. During my freshman year, I struggled academically and failed courses including Macroeconomics, General Psychology, and later Statistics. My GPA dropped below the university requirement, placing me on academic probation and causing me to lose eligibility for federal financial aid as well as my ability to compete in Track & Field. Losing my athletic eligibility was especially painful because track had become a major part of my identity and motivation. Watching teammates continue competing while I could not participate made me feel isolated and disappointed in myself. At the same time, I also struggled socially and emotionally. I often felt out of place on campus and had difficulty communicating confidently with others. Financial stress added even more pressure because my family and I were trying to manage the growing cost of tuition and housing while I attempted to improve academically. There were moments when I questioned whether I truly belonged in college or whether I would ever recover from my setbacks. However, instead of giving up, I made the decision to take accountability for my situation and work toward rebuilding myself academically and personally. I began focusing more seriously on discipline, time management, and long-term goals. In Fall 2022, I raised my GPA above the required threshold and was removed from academic probation. I regained eligibility to compete in Track & Field and participated again during the 2023 season. Although financial circumstances eventually forced me to stop competing and move away from campus life, the challenges I experienced taught me resilience and maturity. During this period, I also developed a strong interest in investing, entrepreneurship, and business leadership. I spent time learning about the stock market, options trading, cryptocurrency, real estate, and entrepreneurship while continuing to pursue my education. Instead of allowing my struggles to define me negatively, I used them as motivation to build a stronger future for myself. Today, I have earned my Bachelor of Business Administration and am currently pursuing my MBA with a concentration in Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship while maintaining strong academic standing. My experiences taught me that setbacks do not define a person’s future unless they allow them to. I learned the importance of perseverance, accountability, and maintaining faith during difficult situations. In addition to my academic growth, these experiences also changed the way I view success and leadership. I realized that true leadership is not simply about personal achievement, but about using your experiences to inspire, support, and create opportunities for others. Struggling through difficult situations gave me a greater sense of empathy for people facing financial hardship, self-doubt, or personal obstacles. Because of this, I hope to become the type of business leader who leads with integrity, compassion, and purpose rather than focusing only on profit or status. My challenges also motivated me to think bigger about the future I want to create. During my years in college, I developed strong interests in entrepreneurship, investing, real estate, government contracting, and business innovation. I became passionate about building businesses that can create jobs, provide opportunities, and positively impact communities. Those goals continue to motivate me every day and remind me why continuing my education and personal growth is so important. I also believe my experiences have given me a deeper appreciation for perseverance and personal growth. There were moments during my journey where it would have been easy to become discouraged or lose confidence in myself, especially while facing academic setbacks and financial uncertainty. However, those struggles forced me to develop resilience, patience, and a stronger sense of purpose. They taught me that success is not defined by avoiding obstacles, but by continuing to move forward and improve despite them. Those lessons continue to shape how I approach both my education and my future goals. Receiving this scholarship would help relieve financial pressure as I continue my educational journey and work toward becoming a business leader focused on creating opportunities for others. My long-term goal is not only to achieve professional success, but also to positively impact communities through ethical leadership, entrepreneurship, and job creation. The challenges I faced during school ultimately strengthened my character and helped shape the person I am continuing to become.
    Bulkthreads.com's "Let's Aim Higher" Scholarship
The future I hope to build is one centered around opportunity, innovation, and positive impact. As a current MBA student concentrating in Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, I aspire to become a business leader who creates companies that not only generate financial success, but also improve the lives of others through employment opportunities, ethical leadership, and community investment. Throughout my educational journey, I have experienced academic, financial, and personal challenges that taught me resilience and determination. Early in college, I struggled academically and faced financial hardship that made continuing my education difficult. However, instead of allowing those setbacks to define my future, I worked to improve my discipline, mindset, and long-term vision. Today, I have completed my Bachelor of Business Administration and continue pursuing my MBA while maintaining strong academic standing. Those experiences shaped my desire to create opportunities for others who may also feel limited by their circumstances. In the future, I hope to build businesses in areas such as real estate, government contracting, and entrepreneurship. My goal is not simply to accumulate wealth, but to create systems that positively impact communities. I want to develop companies that provide stable jobs, encourage growth, and create pathways for financial opportunity, especially for individuals who may lack access to resources or mentorship. I believe businesses can be powerful tools for positive change when leaders prioritize both profitability and people. I also hope to incorporate sustainability, innovation, and ethical decision-making into the companies I build. In today’s world, successful businesses should contribute to society rather than simply benefiting themselves. I want my future companies to be known not only for financial success, but also for integrity, responsibility, and community impact. Receiving this scholarship would help reduce the financial burden of higher education and allow me to focus more fully on achieving these goals. By continuing my education and strengthening my business knowledge, I will be better prepared to create opportunities for others and contribute positively to my community in the future. Ultimately, I want the work I build to leave a lasting impact beyond myself. I hope to become a leader who inspires others through resilience, ambition, and service, while creating businesses that help people improve their lives and believe in their potential.
    Future Green Leaders Scholarship
Sustainability should be a priority in the business field because businesses have one of the largest influences on the economy, society, and the environment. The decisions companies make regarding production, transportation, energy usage, and resource management affect millions of people every day. In today’s world, sustainability is no longer just an option for businesses seeking positive public relations. It is becoming an essential responsibility for long-term success, innovation, and global stability. As an MBA student concentrating in Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, I believe future business leaders must learn how to create economic growth while also reducing environmental harm. Businesses that ignore sustainability may experience short-term profits, but in the long run they risk damaging natural resources, increasing waste, and contributing to environmental problems that affect future generations. I believe companies that prioritize sustainable practices will ultimately become more competitive, trusted, and resilient over time. My long-term career goals include building businesses in industries such as real estate, government contracting, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies like 3D printing. In each of these areas, sustainability has the potential to create meaningful positive impact. For example, in real estate, developers can prioritize energy-efficient buildings, environmentally friendly materials, and smarter land usage that reduces waste and energy consumption. In government contracting, companies can help supply sustainable products, improve operational efficiency, and support environmentally conscious infrastructure projects. Even in 3D printing, businesses can reduce waste by producing products more precisely and using recyclable or biodegradable materials. I also believe sustainability connects closely to ethical leadership. As someone who hopes to become a business leader in the future, I want to build companies that create value not only for shareholders, but also for communities and future generations. To me, success should not come at the expense of the environment or society. I want the businesses I create to contribute positively by balancing profitability with responsibility. In addition, sustainability can help create economic opportunities for people who are often overlooked. Green innovation and environmentally focused industries are generating new careers, technologies, and entrepreneurial opportunities across the country. I hope to use my future businesses to create jobs while also encouraging responsible and forward-thinking business practices. My experiences overcoming academic, financial, and personal challenges have taught me the importance of thinking long-term rather than focusing only on immediate results. That same mindset applies to sustainability. Protecting the environment and reducing long-term environmental impact requires discipline, innovation, and the willingness to invest in a better future even when results are not immediate. Ultimately, I see myself helping reduce environmental impact by becoming a business leader who integrates sustainability into decision-making, operations, and innovation. I believe the future of business will belong to leaders who understand that profitability and sustainability can work together, and I hope to contribute to that future through responsible entrepreneurship, ethical leadership, and community impact.
    Michael Rudometkin Memorial Scholarship
To me, selflessness means using your experiences, struggles, and knowledge to positively impact other people, even while you are still trying to grow yourself. I do not believe selflessness only comes from grand gestures or large amounts of money. Sometimes it comes from encouragement, understanding, reliability, and being willing to help others when you know what it feels like to struggle personally. Throughout my educational journey, I have faced many challenges academically, financially, emotionally, and socially. During my undergraduate years, I experienced academic probation, financial hardship, and periods where I doubted myself. At times, balancing school, athletics, personal responsibilities, and financial stress became overwhelming. However, those experiences shaped my perspective and increased my empathy toward others who may be going through difficult situations of their own. One way I embody selflessness is through the mindset I carry toward my future goals. I am currently pursuing my MBA with a concentration in Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship because I aspire to become a business leader who creates opportunities for others rather than focusing only on personal wealth. My long-term goals include building businesses in industries such as real estate, government contracting, and entrepreneurship. While financial success is important to me, I ultimately want to use that success to help create jobs, support families, and provide opportunities for people who may feel overlooked or financially limited. Even now, before reaching those goals, I try to positively impact people around me through encouragement and support. I understand how powerful words and actions can be because I know what it feels like to struggle silently while trying to stay motivated. Whether it was encouraging classmates, helping teammates remain positive during stressful moments, or supporting friends and family members emotionally during difficult situations, I have always tried to be someone others can rely on. I believe small acts of kindness and encouragement can sometimes make a larger impact than people realize. My perseverance for my beliefs and passions is also reflected in my academic journey. After struggling academically early in college, I refused to give up on myself or my future. Instead, I worked to improve my discipline, mindset, and focus, eventually graduating with my Bachelor of Business Administration and continuing into my MBA program, where I now maintain strong academic standing. That perseverance taught me that setbacks do not define a person — growth and resilience do. The legacy of helping others that this scholarship represents strongly resonates with me because I genuinely want to leave a positive impact on people throughout my life. I want to become the type of leader who is respected not only for professional success, but also for integrity, compassion, and the ability to uplift others. My goal is to create opportunities, spread positivity, and help people believe that their current struggles do not have to determine their future.
    Olivia Rodrigo Fan Scholarship
One Olivia Rodrigo song that strongly resonates with me is “drivers license.” When the song first became popular in 2021, I was graduating from Grand Oaks High School and preparing to transition into adulthood. I remember hearing classmates and teammates from my Track & Field team singing the song constantly at practice and in the locker room. At the time, I mainly associated the song with memories from my senior year and the emotions of growing up. However, as the years went on, the title itself began to connect deeply to my own personal journey in ways I did not initially expect. For many people, getting a driver’s license symbolizes freedom, independence, and maturity. For me, it represented both opportunity and insecurity at the same time. I earned my driver’s license in 2021 at nineteen years old, but my experience behind the wheel was limited. While I passed the written exam and legally obtained my license, I never had the same amount of driving experience that many of my peers had. I practiced mostly with my father and occasionally with my mother, but I rarely drove long distances or spent much time on major highways. Because of that, I often lacked confidence, even though I knew I had the ability to become a safe and reliable driver. Ironically, one thing I learned from Olivia Rodrigo’s music is that growing up is rarely as smooth or glamorous as people expect it to be. Songs like “drivers license” capture feelings of uncertainty, emotional vulnerability, and transition. I connected to those emotions because I often felt behind others my age in certain areas of life, especially when it came to driving and independence. At times, I compared myself to others who seemed more experienced or confident than I was. In December 2023, my relationship with driving changed even more after I was involved in my first car accident while driving my mother’s Lexus RX350. I was visiting my grandfather with my uncle when I made a poor judgment at an intersection and was T-boned by another vehicle. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured, and everything was eventually resolved through insurance, but the experience stayed with me mentally and emotionally. It made me more cautious and self-reflective about responsibility, decision-making, and personal growth. Looking back now, “drivers license” represents more than just a song tied to high school memories. To me, it symbolizes the complicated process of becoming an adult. Growth is not always linear, and confidence is not something everyone develops at the same pace. Olivia Rodrigo’s music helped me realize that vulnerability and uncertainty are normal parts of growing up. Instead of being ashamed of the areas where I lacked confidence, I learned to accept them as experiences that will ultimately help me mature into a stronger and more self-aware person.
    Charles B. Brazelton Memorial Scholarship
Growing up, I always felt a little “different” from the people around me. Not necessarily in a bad way, but in a way that often made me feel socially awkward or misunderstood. While many people around me seemed focused on fitting in, I was usually thinking deeply about life, business, the future, and how I wanted to build something meaningful one day. Even at a young age, I constantly thought about success, leadership, investing, and creating opportunities for others. Sometimes that mindset made it hard for me to relate to people around me, especially during my early college years. When I started college, I was both a business major and a Track & Field athlete running the 400 meters. From the outside, people may have assumed I was confident and had everything together, but internally I struggled a lot with communication and social confidence. I often felt out of place around teammates and other students. I had moments where stress, financial pressure, academic struggles, and personal frustration affected how I interacted with others. At times, I became quiet and withdrawn because I felt like people judged me based on where I was in life instead of where I was trying to go. One thing that especially made me stand out was that I was constantly thinking bigger than my current circumstances. While I was struggling financially in college and trying to recover academically, I was simultaneously teaching myself about the stock market, investing, options trading, cryptocurrency, entrepreneurship, real estate, and business leadership. Some people probably thought it was unrealistic for someone in my position to dream about becoming a CEO, building companies, or creating wealth on a large scale. But I have always believed that your current situation does not have to define your future. Ironically, what once made me feel awkward is now becoming one of my biggest strengths. My experiences taught me resilience, self-awareness, and empathy for others who feel overlooked or underestimated. They also shaped my desire to build businesses that create opportunity and genuinely help people. My long-term goal is not just to become financially successful, but to create jobs, support communities, and positively impact people who may be facing struggles of their own. I think everyone has something that makes them stand out, even if it feels awkward at first. For me, it was always being the person who thought differently, dreamed differently, and sometimes struggled to connect socially because my mind was focused on building a future bigger than my present situation. Over time, I’ve learned that being different is not something to hide — it can become the very thing that drives you forward.
Gardner Family EFY Field Staff Scholarship
I personally have not severed as a EFY member to a community. But what still makes me a strong applicant for this Scholarship Opportunity is NOT just me being a Christian practicing and following my Christian faith. But how I learned to use my faith and beliefs to transform into a better person not just physically, emotionally, mentally or financially but most importantly spiritually. I have seen a lot of things in my life for me for me to know for certain that God is real. I am a believer and follower in my faith not just because I was raised in my religion, like others. But rather because I am that person by heart. I am a believer because I know for a fact that I know I wouldn’t be where I am now in life, career and etc without the mercy, grace, love and compassion without the Heavenly Father! I truly was raised and grew up with my faith but I don’t believe just because of that. Again I believe because I seen things happen, I accomplished goals I knew I couldn’t have done by myself. But I am a very reasonable and logical person as well and I don’t have blind faith in our Lord. There are individuals who truly do have blind beliefs in there faith and religion. But what strengthen my faith and brought me closer to the Heavenly Father is me looking back at Biblical events that was occurred throughout the Bible both Old and New Testament and how it correlates exactly to know we live our lives and what happens to us day to day life. In these modern day times in AD / Anno Domini aka “In the Year of our Lord” things that was happened in the book of Genesis, Exodus and etc truly does correlate and make sense to what’s happening in our modern day era. Events that took place way in the Days BC / Before Christ in the Old Testament like the book of Genesis when it talks about how Adam & Eve Cast out of the Garden of Eden for the forbidden fruit. How Lucifer and 1/3 of the angels fell from Heaven as Lucifer the morning star was guilty of the sin of Pride and want to be better than Jesus/ God by saying such things like I will ascend higher then the Heavenly Father or I will be like the most high etc. From when Enoch was a true child of God in the land of the Canaanite’s who was wicked and sinful. From when Noah built the Ark and etc. It’s not the events themselves that correlate but certain things about them in detail. Even the bible says Faith without work is dead. So I don’t blindly believe in my religion and I admit I can’t of course prove how certain miracles and blessings logically happened but I know God is even more real now as I am a Graduate Student here at the University of St. Thomas - Houston, Texas as I know what it feels like to walk with the Holy Spirit and what it feels like to walk without it and be disconnected from God. I admit again I have not served as a EFY for a community but I believe I am a strong applicant for these following reasons. Thank you sincerely those who read this and let’s continue to walk with the Spirit to make this world a better place for everyone and ourselves!
    Second Chance Scholarship

But my primary long-term goals is to become a CEO and dominate all of these following industries while not only helping myself but also provide value and give back to others less fortunate and make the world a better place in all ways by always being positive and helping people any way I possibly can because not only it feels good to do good and help people. But also, the fact that there is so much pain, bad stuff and negatively going on in the world in general I feel in my heart you can never be too good, too compassionate, too loving, too kind and etc. I wish to truly make people's lives better including myself and truly grow in all areas to pursue the prosperous life I dream for myself as well as putting an end to anything remotely bad that may occur in others' lives. I wish to become one of the nation's biggest Real Estate Investors in all sectors in the industry including residential, commercial, industrial and etc. I am currently pursuing and close to obtaining my Real Estate License from TREC/ Texas Real Estate Commission and I will be working as a Sales Agent under a Brokerage Firm helping people buy, sell and find leases etc, for homes in all of the following area like Single Family, Multi-Family (Duplex, Triplex and Quadplex), Townhomes, Condos, Co-Ops and etc. How I wish to provide value to others doing this is by being the best agent I can be by truly helping people find the best value for them in the process of buy, selling, and trade of real estate property. I wish to also become a government contractor and use sites like Sam.gov to supply the U.S. Federal Government with different products they need by bidding on different products and services there looking for. I wish to own a oil refinery and hire employees to work for me and creating incentives and different things to help expand their careers and make their lives ultimately better and create a 3D printing company and literally create anything that comes to mind and create anything that not only has the highest demand but also can provide value to my customer and consumers and how they can use it in everyday life and provide whatever they truly need and want. Charles Cheesman's Student Debt Reduction Scholarship
As a first-generation college student and African American male pursuing my MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, I carry the weight of not only my own aspirations but also the hopes of my family and community. Neither of my parents had the opportunity to earn a four-year college degree, but they instilled in me the value of hard work, integrity, and self-determination. Their sacrifices continue to motivate me to aim higher and lead a purposeful life. My educational journey has been filled with determination. I earned my undergraduate degree while balancing athletics as a collegiate Track & Field athlete, specializing in the 200m and 400m dash. Competing taught me discipline, consistency, and how to push through challenges—lessons that now fuel my academic and entrepreneurial pursuits. I’m currently working toward my MBA in General Business, and though I face the financial pressure of student loans, I remain committed to achieving long-term success. I’ve always had a deep interest in personal finance and investing. Over the last few years, I’ve built skills in stock market analysis, options trading, and market research. I plan to apply this knowledge to start a real estate investment business and a 3-D printing venture with my father, aiming to provide affordable tools and products for underserved communities. Entrepreneurship isn’t just a career goal for me—it’s a way to create jobs, empower others, and spark generational wealth in spaces where it’s often lacking. Community involvement is also central to my mission. I want to teach financial literacy workshops for high school students and young adults, particularly in predominantly Black and Latino communities. By sharing tools for budgeting, investing, and credit building—skills I had to learn on my own—I hope to equip others with the knowledge to make confident financial decisions. If I am awarded this scholarship and can reduce the burden of my student loans, I will reinvest the money saved into building my businesses and giving back. It will accelerate my path to financial freedom and allow me to focus more fully on expanding opportunities for others. Paying off student debt is more than a relief—it’s a stepping stone to fulfilling a vision of success that uplifts not just myself, but everyone I intend to serve. Receiving this scholarship would not only lighten my financial burden—it would affirm the importance of my journey and the dreams I’ve committed to pursuing. It would give me the flexibility to take more strategic risks in business, expand my community outreach sooner, and accelerate the timeline for launching projects that serve others. Every dollar saved brings me one step closer to building a life rooted in purpose, legacy, and service—values that will continue to guide me long after my student loans are paid off.
Edward Dorsey, Jr. and Audrey Dorsey Memorial Scholarship
As a Black business student pursuing my MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, I’ve seen firsthand the challenges of being underrepresented in the world of business. With a 2.8 GPA and a growing foundation in finance, investing, and entrepreneurship, I’m committed to using my education not only to create a successful future for myself but also to open doors for others who look like me. Representation matters. When young Black students don’t see themselves reflected in leadership, boardrooms, or financial institutions, they may feel business is not a space meant for them. I want to change that. I plan to use my education to become both a leader and a mentor—someone who not only breaks through those barriers but helps others do the same. My vision is rooted in practical action and community connection. One of my long-term goals is to launch a 3-D printing business with my father. Through this business, we plan to create affordable tools and everyday products that serve the needs of underserved communities. But more than that, I want this business to be a platform that empowers young Black entrepreneurs—offering internships, mentorship, and financial education so they can learn to create and grow their own ventures. In addition to business ownership, I’m passionate about financial literacy. Too often, Black communities are left out of conversations about wealth-building. I plan to use my background in finance and investing to lead workshops that teach budgeting, investing, and credit management—skills that build independence and generational wealth. Through these efforts, I aim to give people the knowledge I had to seek out for myself. I also want to reach future business students where they are—high schools, community centers, HBCUs—sharing my journey as a first-generation college student, student-athlete, and aspiring business leader. I want them to know that they belong in these spaces, too. This scholarship would help me continue pursuing my education while expanding my reach and impact. By investing in me, you're investing in a future where more Black students thrive in business—not just as employees, but as decision-makers, innovators, and owners. Ultimately, my mission is to help reshape the narrative around Black excellence in business. I want to contribute to a future where Black professionals are not only present, but leading at every level—from local startups to Fortune 500 companies. By building inclusive businesses, creating mentorship pipelines, and advocating for equitable access to resources, I hope to leave behind a legacy that inspires future generations to dream bigger, push harder, and never settle for being the exception. I believe progress begins when someone decides to lead—and I’m ready to be that person.
    First-Gen Futures Scholarship
As a first-generation college student, I chose to pursue higher education because I believe it's the foundation for creating generational change. Education is more than a personal goal—it’s a pathway toward building a better future for myself, my family, and the communities I plan to serve. My father earned a technical certification and worked for companies like UPS and Baker Hughes, while my mother worked as a seasonal accountant at H&R Block. They gave me everything they could through hard work and sacrifice, despite not having access to a four-year college education themselves. Growing up, I didn’t have anyone in my household who could explain the college application process, help with FAFSA, or guide me through the expectations of higher education. I had to seek out mentors, ask questions, and learn everything through persistence. I relied heavily on school counselors, online resources, and community programs. The financial burden was especially difficult—I’ve had to balance part-time work, track and field athletics, and full-time studies while trying to make ends meet. During undergrad, I competed in Track & Field, primarily running the 400- and 200-meter dash. That experience shaped me into a focused, driven student-athlete who understood how to manage time, fight through setbacks, and remain consistent under pressure. These same qualities now serve me well as I pursue my MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston. My GPA stands at 2.8, but my learning goes far beyond the classroom. I’ve also become involved in stock market investing, real estate research, and entrepreneurship. One of my long-term goals is to launch a 3-D printing business with my father to provide affordable tools and products for underserved communities. I also want to mentor other first-generation students by helping them navigate college and build confidence in their academic and career paths. In addition, I plan to teach financial literacy and wealth-building skills to students and families in overlooked areas, giving them tools I had to find on my own. Being a first-generation college student means taking the harder path and lighting the way for those who come next. With ambition, education, and compassion, I plan to create lasting impact that extends beyond myself. Beyond academics and entrepreneurship, I believe in the power of representation. As a Black first-generation student, I understand how powerful it is to see someone who looks like you breaking barriers and succeeding in spaces where you’re often underrepresented. I want to be that example for others—especially young students who may feel like college is out of reach. Whether through public speaking, mentorship, or community initiatives, I plan to uplift others by sharing my story, the lessons I’ve learned, and the resources that helped me along the way. I’m not just striving for personal success; I’m striving to build a future where success becomes more accessible to those who come after me.
    Edwards Scholarship
My name is Bertran Grant, and I am currently pursuing my MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. I am proud to be a first-generation college student. My parents did not attend traditional four-year universities. My father earned a technical certification and worked for companies like UPS and Baker Hughes, while my mother worked as a seasonal accountant with H&R Block. Their dedication to providing for our family, despite limited educational resources, motivated me to pursue a path in higher education and create opportunities that they never had. Being a first-generation student has meant overcoming many obstacles. From navigating the college application process to understanding financial aid and scholarships, I had to find my own way. I have also worked part-time jobs and competed in Track & Field at my university, running the 400-meter and 200-meter dash. Athletics helped me build discipline and resilience, but balancing it all taught me the importance of time management, perseverance, and mental strength. These qualities are vital, especially when facing academic and financial challenges. Though my GPA is 2.8, it’s a reflection of the journey I’ve taken—one filled with growth and determination. In addition to my studies, I’ve started investing in the stock market, researched real estate, and explored opportunities in government contracting and entrepreneurship. These areas excite me because they offer a chance to create long-term, positive change—not just for me, but for communities like mine that often lack access to economic opportunities. In the future, I aim to launch a 3-D printing business with my father, focusing on creating affordable tools and products for underserved communities. By providing access to innovative solutions and helping small businesses thrive, I hope to make a lasting impact. Additionally, I want to teach financial literacy and investing, empowering others to build wealth and achieve financial independence. The combination of entrepreneurship, investing, and business education gives me the tools to create real, lasting change. Studying in the United States has given me valuable experiences and perspectives that will enable me to contribute to a more interconnected, inclusive, and peaceful world. I am committed to using my education to bring positive change to my community, break down barriers, and help create opportunities for others who face challenges similar to mine. By doing so, I hope to honor the legacy of those who have supported and believed in me. I also aspire to mentor future first-generation students, helping them navigate the challenges I faced, and guiding them toward success in their own educational and career journeys.

Humanity's insatiable curiosity has driven us to explore the mysteries of our universe, and this relentless pursuit of knowledge is essential for our continued progress and survival. Understanding the nature of our universe is not merely an academic endeavor but a fundamental necessity. In this essay, I will elucidate why it is crucial to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos and discuss some of the key ideas and concepts that can aid in this grand quest. First and foremost, our quest to understand the universe is driven by a natural curiosity deeply ingrained in our species. From ancient civilizations gazing at the night sky to modern-day scientific breakthroughs, humans have always sought answers to questions about the cosmos. This innate curiosity has led to countless innovations, from the development of the scientific method to the technological marvels that have shaped our modern world. Therefore, a deep understanding of the universe not only satisfies our intellectual yearning but also fuels innovation and technological progress. Moreover, understanding the universe has practical implications for our survival and well-being. By unraveling the laws governing the cosmos, we gain insights into the fundamental principles that govern our world. This knowledge can help us address critical challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, and pandemics. For instance, our understanding of astrophysics has led to advancements in solar energy technology, while cosmological research has deepened our understanding of the origins of life on Earth. In our quest to better understand the universe, several key ideas and concepts play pivotal roles. One of these is the scientific method, a rigorous approach that involves systematic observation, hypothesis formation, experimentation, and peer review. The scientific method has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of the universe, allowing us to separate fact from fiction and develop reliable models of the cosmos. It is crucial to employ this method rigorously to ensure that our quest for knowledge remains grounded in evidence and reason. Another vital concept is the interconnectivity of knowledge. Many scientific disciplines, such as physics, astronomy, chemistry, and biology, are interrelated. Understanding the universe often requires a multidisciplinary approach. For instance, understanding the origin of life on Earth involves knowledge of both astrophysics and biology. By fostering collaboration between diverse fields, we can achieve a more comprehensive understanding of the universe. Furthermore, the power of technology cannot be underestimated. Advancements in telescopes, particle accelerators, and supercomputers have revolutionized our ability to probe the cosmos. Continued investment in cutting-edge technology is essential to further our understanding of the universe. As we explore distant galaxies and delve deeper into the subatomic realm, we gain new perspectives on the universe's underlying principles. In conclusion, the pursuit of understanding the nature of our universe is a profound and indispensable endeavor. It satisfies our innate curiosity, drives innovation, and offers practical solutions to global challenges.
