I have always dreamed of being an Emergency Flight Nurse. I have been an LVN for 11yrs and finally have decided to go back for my RN and so on to become a flight nurse. But,I am a 36 year of mother, wife and nurse, I applied for the RN program not knowing how I would even pay; this scholarship would help ease some of my stress a little. I told myself if not now than when? How much longer will I put this off. My goal is to be able to get my RN after 11 years of being an LVN, to show my teenage children that any one can dream big at any age. When I was in the LVN program, 8 weeks before graduation my husband and I were in car accident that broke both my feet. I needed surgery and I was forced to drop the program due to unable to finish the clinical days. My doctor said I would be in a wheelchair anywhere from 6 months to a year. But I didn’t have that time. I was determined to re-apply for the LVN program that was 3 months away. I had never worked so hard and in pain thru therapy to be able to get back into school. And even while in school I struggled with pain. With toddlers at the time and a husband that was unable hold a job, I did it, I walked, I re-joined the program and I graduated with honors. My goal has always been RN but having to do the LVN program twice put my family in a large financial burden as much as it pained me it was unfair of me to continue to go to school and not work full time to help ease the burden, so I put my RN license in the back burner. I did not plan on waiting 11yrs to come back to school but life happens. Now that my children are grown and getting ready to go off into the world themselves, I feel ready to be able to finish what I stared 12 years ago. I decided to take the last 4 classes I needed to be able to apply for the RN program. Currently working full time and taking 3 classes, while being a wife and mom. I would like to work less while in the program if I am able to find all the help I can get to get on that helicopter. Thank you for your consideration.
