The teacher who has had the most positive impact on my life is Mrs. Roberts, my second and third grade teacher. Throughout my education, I believe she has had the greatest influence in both my academic and personal life. She was the reason I looked forward to going to school every day because she made learning fun and created experiences that were memorable for me. She not only created a safe environment for me, but for all my classmates as well. I remember her being the teacher I would always go to whenever I needed someone to talk to or when I needed help with anything. One of the memories that continues to play in my mind consistently is when I wrote her a letter using my favorite Bratz doll stationery. I remember asking her if she could be my fourth grade teacher in the letter. Unfortunately, it didn’t work that way. That particular moment alone shows how much she meant to me as a teacher and role model. Mrs. Roberts was the reason I began to care for nature, even getting out of my comfort zone by eating salads. During the two years she was my teacher, she created a garden at our elementary school. Once or twice a week, we would leave the classroom to check on our garden and observe its progress. She taught us how to properly care for and harvest the vegetables we were growing. On special occasions, when the lettuce was ready to be picked, we would make salads. It quickly became something I looked forward to, and it felt incredibly rewarding to eat the vegetables that we had cared for and grown ourselves. Before being in her class, I was very afraid of bugs and would usually try to kill them if I had the chance. However, because of the garden space she created for us, I learned to appreciate them and respect their place in nature. Bugs are common in gardens, and sometimes we would find inchworms eating our vegetables. Instead of spraying pesticides that could harm not only the insects but the plants as well, she would have us carefully move them to a safer location. This taught me responsibility and respect for the environment. What I admired most about Mrs. Roberts was her selflessness. The garden she created was not only for our class but eventually benefited the entire grade level. She believed it was important to teach us about caring for the environment and working together. She not only created a safe place outside the classroom but also made sure to create a safe and supportive place in the classroom. I remember that during this time it was Donald Trump’s first time running for president. As a predominantly Hispanic school, many students were worried about what might happen if he became president. Mrs. Roberts made sure to comfort us and reassure us that we would be okay and that we were safe. Her kindness and reassurance meant a lot to me during this time. The selflessness and compassion that Mrs. Roberts showed during those two years of my life continues to inspire me today. She played a major role in motivating me to pursue a higher education. One day, I hope to become an obstetrician - gynecologist. A big reason for this goal is that I want to share the same selflessness, kindness, comfort, and compassion with the women I will help during one of the most vulnerable, terrifying, and rewarding moments of their lives, in the same way that Mrs. Roberts would share with us.
