Hello, my name is Bernard Henry. I was inspired to go to the military as a teenager by my father who also served. I was in army J.R.O.T.C. in high school. In high school I enjoyed leadership, camaraderie with other cadets, and life skills. This is where I learned my leadership amongst my peers and how to follow the leadership of others. All four years of J.R.O.T.C. prepared me for my time in the military.
I enlisted in the Army immediately after high school. I did my basic training at Fort Leonard Wood. It was tough however I believe the training was necessary. I attended 82nd Airborne school at Fort Bragg. This was an eye-opening experience for me. I was terribly afraid of heights. I selected this type of training to better prepare me to deal with my fears. As a life lesson, I learned to preserve through fear as the mission is more important. After Airborne school I attended Air Assault school at Fort Campell. The rigors of this school were tough as well. However, I had the mental fortitude to endure this training. I went to AIT at Fort Bliss. I was an Avenger crewmember. This was part of Air Defense. I fired missiles from a launch position, either with a remote or shoulder fire. While in training, I was elected to be a squad leader several times as well as platoon sergeant by my peers. This accomplishment meant a lot to me. It showcased my natural leadership ability as well as my peer’s confidence in me. When I arrived to activate duty, I was a model soldier. I never was brought on disciplinary actions. I followed the chain of command. And I served my country proudly. I was a representation of the United States Army when I donned the uniform, and I carried myself as such. The army was the foundation of my work ethic as an adult. I thrived in that setting, and I carried all those values with me till this day.
My education goals are finally planned out. I switched my major because of how much selfless service was instilled in me. I am a psychology major. My concentration is in forensic psychology. I majored in this field of psychology because my passion is to understand the mind and the law. I think that this gives me the best of both worlds and the opportunity to pursue other endeavors in both fields of study. Ultimately, I want to compete my Bachelors of Science in Forensic Psychology. After that I want to either enter law school or get my master’s in forensic psychology. My military experience has helped me conquer feats that seem impossible. It gave me confidence and a readiness to complete the goals I set for myself.
