I am a Mexican-American citizen who moved from Mexico to the U.S as a 15 year old. When I moved to the U.S, the only language that I knew was Spanish, I became fluent in English after 3 years of hard work and dedication. After graduating high school, even though state testing declared me fluent in English, I didn’t completely feel confident with my English skills, which made me chose to attend Community College. During my time at San Diego City College, I worked part-time jobs, became the vice-president of the Child Development Student Club, I studied abroad in Spain, and graduated with Honors. After receiving my A.S in Child Development, I transferred to CSU Dominguez Hills where I am working on my B.S in Child Development with a concentration in Counseling and Family Services. As I learn about career, I volunteer my time with CAMP Hope America, a non profit organization that focuses in giving children, who have been through multiple types of trauma and abuse, their childhoods back.
