Bayanihan, a Filipino tradition that embodies the willingness to help one another, is a virtue that my family has always instilled in one another. Whether through small acts of kindness or significant contributions to our community, my parents have always embraced the value of this tradition. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, serving others has always been their main priority. Their actions taught me the value of Bayanihan and the desire to advocate for those who are underrepresented, mistreated, and lack resources. Throughout high school, I found myself actively engaging in service-related endeavors. For instance, volunteering was a pivotal aspect of these past three years. I volunteered as a Pacifica youth advocate, served as president of my school’s Service Committee where 5000+ donations were collected for Bay Area communities in need, and organized fundraisers for various causes. Each experience never failed to reinforce my belief in the power of service and the importance of taking the initiative to make a lasting positive impact on those at the end of adversity. Growing up with my parents, I have always seen firsthand the impact that one can have by simply being present and willing to help, and it has fueled my ambition to pursue advocacy for this sake. However, one inevitable aspect of every career is obstacles. Though it would be nice, I am no exception to it. My family income is sufficient for more basic wants and needs but sadly falls short of covering the tuition of my anticipated college education. The cost of prestigious education weighs heavily on us and quite frankly, it hinders my chance of even receiving high-level education---a means for me to acquire the knowledge needed to make a meaningful impact on society. This scholarship would contribute well beyond financial aid; it would be a crucial stepping stone that would pave the way for me to instill the tradition of Bayanihan in others. With this support, I can continue the legacy of service instilled by my parents and strive towards creating the building blocks for a better society. I can guarantee that will always be a conscious effort for me to use my education as a platform to advocate for those who are weighed down by society and ensure the acknowledgment of their needs. Thanks to my parents, the qualities and values of service have fueled my ambition to represent the sidelined. Despite our financial constraints, I will always have an unwavering determination to strengthen areas where society lacks. Not only would this scholarship smoothen the process of doing so, but it would also reinforce my dedication. This all begins with service and advocacy; with the values of Bayanihan. I am eager to support those in need, and I hope to see this scholarship support my journey in the years to come.
